Christian Wells and his team are reliable, communicative, experienced, trustworthy and do great work. I had a large complete deck replacement by them and they customized so many parts of the project, including a custom lattice and cantilever solution. His team is so good that I recommended them to my condo board to perform roof replacement work for my townhouse condo association here in Dupont Circle, as well as recommending him as contractor for a new penthouse rooftop deck for another neighbor. Christian was awarded both contracts because everyone in my community saw how dedicated his team is and how good the work product is. I intend to use 5thGen Group for interior work, as well (we had a former lead contractor who was originally hired to transform both the interior and the deck, but proved unreliable and bailed on the deck job, so I used Thumbtack to find Christian/5thGen Group and I am so happy that I did!).
Tim and his crew did a great job on our basement finishing! Tim was very knowledgeable throughout the process and was very accommodating to with our busy schedules. He and his crew were very trustworthy as most of the time they worked in the house while we were away. Special thanks to Neil and the other gentleman on the team. They were always very friendly and responsive when I needed anything or had a question. My only negative, hence 4 stars, would be that I would have liked to only have had Tim as the sole POC versus us having to deal one on one with the other contractors on the project as it made for a lot of calls and additional tasks to manage. This was our first project so we were not really sure how everything worked. All in all, they did a great job and made our space beautiful! We would definitely use again for any project!
Luis Valle is an excellent interior painter! He did such an amazing job painting my rooms that I also hired him to lay floor tile in my bathroom. He went above and beyond both times! Will hire him again for any handyman job needed. A+
We had multiple contractors tell us what we wanted done was impossible or not worth their time. It was a small job (just one cabinet that needed to be cut in half to open up the room), but it took an entire day and a high level of skill and detail to complete. Henry was the ONLY one that said this could be done and that he would be able to maintain the detail on the cabinet (instead of just cutting the cabinet in half with a straight edge and forgetting the detail work). The job is done and I couldn’t be more pleased!! You can’t even tell the cabinet was cut...that’s how good his detail work was!! Excellent attention to detail, patience and skilled work!!
We wanted to start off saying that we love Thumbtack. We hired Tim because of the wonderful reviews that he had and he was so quick to get back to us on a proposal. He was very fixable with his schedule and ours. We were amazed that he offered to come out New Year's Day to patch up/fix our dry walling in our up stairs bathroom. Tim arrived in a timely manner and immediately started tackling the job. Another thing that was so touching about hiring him is he brought his wife along to watch him work because he had a busy schedule the next couple of days and wouldn't get to spend much time with her. We both enjoyed their company as he worked on the bathroom. He actually taught my husband how to patch dry walling, which was very nice because we are getting our house ready to sale. He finished the bathroom project in a few hours and we were very happy with the results. We will definitely hire Tim in the future and recommend him to anyone that needs an all around handyman.
We hired Jose and his team to cover our porch, steps and walkway with flagstone. The team did a great job and we absolutely love the outcome; our home now looks polished and inviting! I really appreciated how Jose explained all that he and his team would need to do during the project--including removing and re-installing bannisters/railings to allow for the increased height of the flagstone. That's a part of the project that I would never have thought of--and we appreciated how the different parts of the project were itemized in the quote. Jose was great at communicating with us and providing us project updates. We ran into weather delays (it rained for many days in a row), but his team was still able to do a little bit each day. Jose also was good at letting us know that some of our landscaping would get some wear and tear during the project. I appreciated the heads up and how his team tried to minimize the damage as much as possible. Unfortunately we did things backwards and had new landscaping before the hardscaping. Lesson learned for us, as we had to put more money into landscaping--so keep that in mind--none of that was their fault! I would definitely recommend J.Portillo Construction, LLC..
I used thumbtack to find a local contractor for the replacement of my driveway. I met with several contractors and Mauricio Stone gave me the best price per sq ft. He met with me to go over the scope of work that i requested. I was pleased with the entire job from start to finish.
I had Baiza Construction replace the floor and wall tile in each of our 3 bathrooms a year ago. I waited this long to submit a review just to be sure everything held up nicely. They also did all the plumbing to replace the shower fixtures. Honestly, all I have is good things to say about their crew. First, the price was very fair. Second, he said it would take 5 or 6 full days to finish, and it took them 5 days and just a few hours on the 6th day. The tile work came out perfect. Every day, the guys checked with me to verify any ideas I had, including what pattern I wanted, or exactly how high I wanted the fixtures. They were sure to keep a clean area throughout, and never left a mess overnight. Anyway, I'm very happy with the work that was done, and I would definitely hire them again, and have recommended them to others.
I have never encountered a better contractor than Arnold at Vintage. His professionalism, knowledge of the project: handrail, railings, stair rails - wood with wrought iron tines - was impressive, as was the quality of his work. On time arrival on project, cleaned during the work, and finished earlier than expected with stunning results. He went above and beyond when he offered help in two non-project home repairs I was doing myself. I was truly moved by his kindness as I'm working to put our home on the market. Working with contractors is usually stressful, but not with Arnold and assistant, Marlon. Loved them, absolutely highly recommend them.
Mr. Ford welded up some broken iron railings for me that was causing some safety concerns. He did a great job fabricating new posts and installing them on-site. He was very easy to work with and was very professional. All work was done in a timely manner. I highly recommend him and would use him again.
If you’re in need of a reliable, honest and get-it-done general contractor for your home remodeling needs, Al and his crew are the GO TO GUYS! We recently had a rather large basement remodel project where we took an unfinished space (approx.. 900 sq. feet) to a home office/ dental laboratory finish. There were a lot of moving parts involved – all new electrical/ mechanical/ plumbing; installation of egress & small sliding window(s), walk-out door w/ retaining walls and pavement; added bathroom & work/equipment room. Al took the design plans from a paper to presence, and really worked with us to stay on time and on budget. From the initial consultation, he took his time to go over details of the project and provide us with a written proposal on the spot. What was also appreciated was that he used upgraded materials rather than standard builder supplies, which really makes a huge difference in appearance! Al and his guys are meticulous, detailed & very clean – at the end of each work day, the floors were always swept & materials put away. Another consideration for us was trust since my husband & I weren’t home during the day. I can say with complete confidence that you can trust Premier Home Services to do their job, in your home without supervision. We will definitely use them again for our next home project. Thanks Al!
I hired Colwill Construction & Design, LLC to do handyman work in my home. I had lots of jobs from repairing front and back doors, drywall work, painting and repairing railings and power washing front and back concrete areas. There were other things needed and included in these visits. They spent more than adequate time in my home to make sure the jobs were done well. The work was done to the utmost of my satisfaction and was surprisingly quite affordable and guaranteed. I was able to get a written estimate of what the labor and material costs would be, allowing me to know, in advance, if I could afford it. I appreciate that there were no hidden costs, expert work, and friendly staff. I felt comfortable with the staff and was very happy with the work! I will definitely use this company again and thank Jeff Colwall and staff for allowing me to get a lot of work done at an affordable price.
I highly recommend Mr. Hamidi. In selling my house, the buyer requested railing put on our front and back steps, and a support beam replaced on the porch. Because these items were governed by city of Alexandria code, we had to get it done before we could close. Unfortunately, we did not get the inspection report until late on a Friday afternoon. Mr. Hamidi came to do an estimate at 5:00 on a Friday, about an hour after I contacted him. He came to do the job on Monday. Not only was Mr. Hamidi fast and professional, but he really worked with me. We had other projects going on that we were trying to squeeze in before the closing. Teams had to work around each other, but Mr. Hamidi was patient and understanding. I cannot recommend EY Construction highly enough. Though our job was small, I have full confidence Mr. Hamidi would handle any job with speed, quality, and professionalism. Great work.
Repaired railing and handrail on rear of home. Responded very quickly to my inquiry. Was knowledgeable about the project, had fair pricing and listened to my concerns. Job was completed within a week. During first meeting, settled on work to be done, schedule and project. The night of the project, it rained so there were a few touch ups needed and they came back the very next day and finished the work. Highly recommended.
Bullfrog came out, talked with us about the job of replacing damaged brick on our porch sides and then resurfacing the top of the deck and walkway with brick, reviewed the project and made suggestions, and then left us with a specific and reasonable quote for what was to be done. Upon signing the contract, they began work on the agreed day and sent out several experts as needed. The job required leveling the marred surface and removing old brick before laying the new brick on the surface and facing wall. Bullfrog worked methodically and carefully, ensuring that each phase of the project was well done and properly completed before beginning the next. When the job was completed we were pleased with the end results and their excellent service, oversight and cleanup. I would recommend them to anyone needing masonry or stonework.
I have had the pleasure of working with Bob Muldoon and his son, James, for about 7 years. As a realtor, I have numerous clients in need of his services. I also personally utilize his services. I recommend him often and have clients come back and sing his praises. He is willing to hang curtains or redo a kitchen or bathroom. He, and his team, do excellent work and they are reasonable in price. It is great to have a reliable licensed contractor, who I can confidently recommend and know that he will do a great job. I highly recommend Bob Muldoon. Feel free to contact me directly at 301-758-2751 with any questions or if you need additional information.
We had a wonderful experience with Andre Silva and his crew. The first job that we hired Andre and his team was to do restoration on our hardwood floors. Andre came out to our home and gave us a great estimate. He offered a military discount for us and we were very happy to hire him for the job. His Team showed up on time and got started right away. They covered the entire area where the work was going to be performed. Sanded down all the floors, prepared all the hardwood floors for application of the new stain and sanded down all the steps in the stair case. They prepared all the wood surface to the application of the new stain of the entire staircase. Applied the new stain on the entire floor level including closets. They did a great job cleaning up and was done in one full day. I had them come out the next day to put a few more coats of stain on the steps because the woods was a little lighter. They came back and did the job on their lunch break. I was blown away how the floors looked when they were finished. The hardwood floors looked brand new an was defiantly a selling point for our house. We actually hired Andre and his team to paint our home too. Andre hands down bet any estimate that I had and they did such an amazing job on the floors I was happy to hire them again. The painters showed up on time and started the job right away. Our entire down stairs was painted, the bathroom, three bedrooms and the kitchen. I was very happy because Andre was able to match the paint that we had on the walls. The painters did a great job and had it all done in one day. They clean up any paint that may of splattered and was very careful when painting around the hardwood floors. I also hired Andre to power wash the entire outside of the home which was a project. Andre took on this endeavor and he did a fantastic job. The house looked amazing when he was done. I will say I had over $3000 dollars worth of work put into our home to put it on the market and thanks to Andre it was on the market three days and we had two offers on our home. We just want to say thank you to Andre and his team for making our house look amazing. We will definitely recommend Andre and his team to anyone looking to make their home beautiful!!
Paul was very accommodating, from the estimate through the completion. He understood this was not a home we lived in, and I wasn't able to be there all the time. He was flexible, and so in turn, I was too. He explained to me why it was important to do the job correctly for the integrity of the house (t's an old home) if I wanted it to be a permanent fix, not just a repair; he put me on the calendar when he said he could; and he got the job done in a timely manner.
I am extremely pleased with all the work that JT Painting and Home Improvement did for me recently (June 2015). I hired JT to fix the structurally unsound stair rail and newel post for my single-family home and he did a terrific job with the repair - it is as good as new without going to the expense and hassle of replacing it entirely. He also repaired/replaced interior doors, installed a ceiling fan, repaired various drywall dings and holes, power washed my deck and siding, and other improvement projects. The work was excellent and for a very fair price. He is responsive, returns calls quickly, gives you a least-cost option for larger projects and delivers on schedule. I will not hesitate to contract with him again for my next home improvement projects. He and his crew take pride in their work and it shows. The dozen or so small and larger projects that he did for me all went without a hitch - one of the very best experiences I have had as a homeowner for 25 years! Thanks for a job very well done.
I don't write many reviews, but I wanted to go out of my way to make sure to to write a detailed one for Yosif and Smart House Remodeling. I think I am uniquely qualified to give a very thorough review, as I hired Yosif and his team to do a basement renovation covering over 1,400 square feet. This was a big job, and below you can see some of the before and after photos from a few of the rooms. I'm a pretty particular client; I'm an engineer and pay attention to the details and quality of work that I get done and was very pleased with the outcome on this. I hired Yosif after getting approximately 8 (!) different bids for this job. So that shows you what he was up against. I think the typical experience with working with Yosif is likely as follows: you have him out for an estimate, he has some good ideas about the work that you may have not considered, he gives you a prompt estimate with very reasonable prices, and then you hire him to start the job. Once work is well underway, you realize you've got something really great going and then start creating new contracts to do all kinds of additional work with him--work that perhaps you've put off because you dreaded having to go through finding a quality contractor for each additional project. In my case, I started off with vinyl plank flooring over 1400 sq. feet (spot-leveling & demo needed), with some switch relocation and other electrical work (outlet additions, ceiling box), recessed lighting installation, and HVAC vent installations. By the end I had added significant drywall patching (including closing holes in attic), replacing a huge wood paneled room with all-new drywall, installed an attic ladder, replaced a rear door (including new framing & storm door install), repaired a front door, had a custom divider wall built to hide an HVAC unit, had soundproofing insulation put in, multiple in-wall access panels, minor plumbing, and I could honestly go on. I got an amazing amount done beyond what I originally though was possible for my budget. Yosif is careful to make sure that you are OK with the finished product on each phase of the work that is being done, and is willing to redo things that are not quite right. Each job is properly finished too, with the small things like priming on drywall (plenty skip this!), clean up, and material disposal. I found him very trustworthy as well and had no issue with him doing work at my home regardless of whether I was there or not, yet he was also respectful of my schedule. I would also consider him skilled at a very broad range of construction areas/topics, which if you've hired a number of contractors before you probably know that is not always the case. Although I do want to note that I found his drywall work especially good. I don't think many people would assume that he has 10+ years of experience, but it shows in what he is capable of an his approach to solving the problems that you encounter (and you will always find something interesting when you start opening up walls!). In short, I would gladly recommend him without any reservations.
Last year I became Administrator for my Uncles Estate which included a townhome in Springfield, VA. Of all of the duties I had to perform as Administrator, renovating my Uncles townhome was the easiest as I hired Brent McNey for everything related to getting the townhome ready to sell. It was in terrible shape and had to be completely renovated from top to bottom. He was a Project Manager and handled everything from polishing the hardword floors, cleaning and painting the entire home, scheduling the electrician and plumber to get the home up to code, picking out and installing all of the kitchen appliances and the same for the 3 bathrooms; picking out and installing the kitchen floor and floors for 3 bathrooms. The backyard was cleaned, the cement deck was redone and the 2 sheds were cleaned out and painted. He was a joy to work with very pro-active and responsive. He did an excellent job and I could not be more pleased. He went above and beyond to make sure that I was pleased with the results. The before and after shots are amazing! I highly recommend Brent McNey.
