Very good experience using C&D Pest Management. Dave was punctual and efficient. Found the culprit causing the infestation and effectively eliminated it. Other pest control companies were not nearly as thorough. Also, a good value for the price.

Prompt response, I think Ej and her crew did a wonderful job. I have had this bee issue for months in my office space. I tried several other pest control companies and it seems as though they didn't know what they were doing. Ej's Pest Control was able to come in, inspect the issue, give suggestions, and solve the problem. Fantastic work! I will recommend them.

This company was very professional and was able to handle the pest control problem in a time matter. Out of all the pest control people that I contacted they were able to squeeze me into their busy schedule. I couldn’t be more happier and pleased with our service from them. I would highly recommend them and use them again. They did understood and took time to figure out where the mice was getting in from.

Pest Quest responded immediately to my query about same-day service for a sudden, acute yellow-jacket problem, and was able to come out exactly when I'd hoped. Greg was on-time, found the source of the problem in only a couple of minutes of observation, explained how he would treat it, and afterwards gave me instructions on how to follow up safely with his treatment. Pest Quest is now my go-to pest control service.

I have to say Gino is awesome. Even though it’s a three treatment process for extermination of my minor bedbug issue, I haven’t seen nor felt another bedbug nor bite. He also treated for minor roach issue. Anything that I see are all dead roaches or bugs. He really loves what he does and was able to educate me on bedbugs and roaches. He is personable and wants to ensure your satisfaction by taking pride to ensure the job is done effectively and efficiently. I love Pest Defense. I love Gino. I would recommend him to anyone who has any type of pest control issue. With over 25 years over 25 years of experience this company is the best in the DMV thus far. Won’t go anywhere else. Customer for life.

I found coordinating a service appointment was very easy via phone and email. The technician, Jeff, did a fantastic job. He showed me what he was looking for, he de-webbed everything to see if there were any issues I hadn't identified. He treated the areas I needed, and a few extra areas to be sure of the results. I was moving boxes in the basement later that day and pleasantly surprised to NOT find any live insects. This will be my pest treatment company in the future.

A $225 job turned into $1,659 after several other recommendations were made. Not being an exterminator, I really have no way of knowing whether all of them were really necessary or not so I trusted Serge was giving me sound recommendations. Serge and his guy were very professional and really have an extensive list of abilities beyond just pest control. They even threw in a couple of little jobs at no cost because they could do them quickly while they were here!

Potomac pest and termite has to be by far the best pest control contractor I’ve had the pleasure of working with. John was very friendly and took the time to not only eliminate our severe ant infestation, but to also educate my wife and I on how to prevent them from coming back in the future. Top notch service from a local business!!!!

We had a termite infestation and Green Pest was very attentive and responsive to our needs and concerns. They were very flexible working around our busy work schedules, to the extent that they sent a technician over on Sunday to assess the problem. They always showed up on time, were very professional and explained in detail the treatment, how termites work, and answered all our questions and addressed all our concerns. They were very responsive, and continuously demonstrated that they cared about our problem. We were so pleased with the Termite treatment that we also signed up for the quarterly treatments. All of their technicians I’ve had the pleasure to work with take great pride of what they do, and are focused on client satisfaction. Special thanks to Kory, Oscar, Kevin, Alex, and DJ for their honesty, hard work, exceeding expectation and being cognizant to our concerns. A very Satisfied Customer.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

How much does it cost for a pest control service?

Whether you need to get rid of bugs or rodents, pest removal professionals can be lifesaving when you have an infestation. Pest control prices will vary based on what type of pest is being removed. The national pest control price range is $80-$130, although prices can be much higher for tasks like wildlife removal (raccoons, bobcats, etc.), which might start at $250 and exceed $500, depending on the animal and the trapping measures required.

The cost of eliminating a termite colony ranges on average from $240 to $400, but these costs can increase greatly if the whole house is infested. The average cost to kill cockroaches is between $80 and $130, while bedbug extermination ranges from $320 to $400 on average. The main factors that will affect your pest control price are the type of pest, the extent of the infestation, the accessibility of the infested areas, and the type of treatment required.
