We had a great experience with "Your Friends with a Truck" moving and would not hesitate to use them again in the future. We booked the move about 2 months in advance. David confirmed everything online, then called the week of the move to reconfirm. Communication was very easy. On the day of the move the 3 man crew showed up on time, were very pleasant, and worked quickly. They moved our 3 bedroom house in 6 hours, including the 45 minute drive to our new house! They treated our belongings with respect and nothing was damaged. When it came time to pay the bill, there were no hidden fees or costs, or charges for moving supplies (as I had come to expect when using large corporate movers). The total amount was simply the number of hours times the cost per hour. I was so shocked because I expected some "extras" to pop up on the bill and budgeted accordingly. Nope, simple and fair pricing...a novelty these days. Overall the experience was great, hassle free, and fairly priced. Your Friends with a Truck made moving day very easy!

My move was a bit unconventional as it was during the Memorial Day holiday weekend and everything seemed to be delayed. I had two movers who showed up right on time and were very professional. I think if I had three movers and a bigger truck the move would've gone faster and smoother. I did end up helping move some things to speed up the process. My movers took great car to wrap furniture and since I had to stops on my move, made sure to keep my items organized. Since my move took longer than expected, the movers had to return the next day to finish things. Again they were prompt and arrived when they said they would! Overall I'm pleased with my move and the one critique I have is, man power/speed.

The movers were remarkable! They were on time and went WAY above and beyond expectations. They worked 10 hours nearly non stop loading then unloading a 26' uhaul truck, two 12' uhaul trailers, and a van! During this extremely stressful move, they helped alleviate my near mental breakdown from the many issues that kept arising during our closing. Couldn't have done this move without them. I 1000% recommend these guys!!

Dulles Logistics was amazing! From the initial costomer service, to quick responses to questions with Max by email before the move. The 4 guys that came knew exactly what they were doing and were super quick packing and unpacking the truck. We will be moving again soon and will not only use them again, but will request the same crew! Thank you!!

They did a great job. My moving truck pickup ended up being pushed later and Anthony happily worked with me to have him and his guys come later. They had my one bedroom loaded in a half hour! Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I knew they had a 2 hour minimum for the price (almost all do) , but it didn't even take an hour, less than half of the time slot. Would have been nice to have him say hey give me this much because it was a quick job. That is just a personal customer service standpoint but overall their work was quick and they were sure to take care of my items.

The support in moving that I received was the best I ever experienced in over 16 moves across my career. They expertly loaded my moving van quickly and in such a manner that nothing was broken on the other end. I strongly endorse Ground Force One Moving and have referred them to my friends.

Everyone I worked with starting the week before I moved to the day-of was very professional. The amount quoted was the amount I paid (no unexpected changes). The three movers were pros and treated the furniture with care. The used furniture blankets and materials to protect and secured everything in the moving truck. A-1 Moving Company even worked worked with me to add an additional stop into the itinerary. I highly recommend A-1 Moving Company.

Adrian and his team are awesome. We had trouble with not knowing when the truck would arrive and then if it would fit in the loading dock. We actually wound up changing the move time twice and he flexed to make sure it happened. They were attentive and ensured to flag any damage they saw as they were unloading the truck. We’d definitely use them again.

1 guy showed up about 5 minutes late the other guy 30. I was very clear about them needing hand trucks (would have been easier for them) but they didn’t have any. Job took as long as expected. I would definitely hire them again. Communication just needs to be worked on.

This was a great experience! We moved from Maryland to Los Angeles. 2 trucks and 6 strong men showed up on moving day. We had packed most things, but they finished up with carefully wrapping all our furniture, wardrobe boxed our closets. Took apart and reassembled an IKEA bed (took them 20 min on each end of disassembling and reassemble, which took us a day to put together when we got it) a piano. On delivery, a very large Great Nation moving truck full of our belongings pulled up. The driver and 4 helpers came to unload. I can't remember all of their names, but Ivan was our main guy going over everything. So pleasant and professional and REALLY strong! They never complained (at least to me) and were friendly, fast and efficient! It ended up being less than the max quote... it was a hot and long day and they were troopers! We had no issue with the offload and no damage. I would highly recommend them if you are going long distances.

Dwayne was a consummate professional. He came to take a look at the stuff I needed to be hauled away and was honest about how much it would be, including the fees at the dump. It turns out that it took an entire 24ft truck, who would have thought I had accumulated that much debris in 11 years. It took about 2 hours to do it all and it looked great. He was great about asking questions and taking direction as to what should be hauled away. I recommend him to anyone.

I had a great experience hiring Zebna Movers. The movers showed up right on time and were very friendly. They got everything done that was necessary in the time being. They also were a really great price for the service, so I will be recommending them to friends who are moving in the future! Some minor feedback, however, that I think would make the service even more stellar: - I had asked for a wardrobe box prior to my move and they came with one that didn't quite function. The movers were able to create a makeshift one, but it took more time than necessary and did not hold all of my wardrobe hanging items. - In the past, I have had movers come with large boxes. They typically fill those boxes up with all the little bags and things I have packed, then take the big boxes into the moving truck. Zebna did not have those, so they had to carry every small item to the truck by hand. To me, this is not the most efficient way to move and meant that the service took longer than necessary. Overall, I appreciated the company--they were very responsive and professional and I would use their services again. Thank you!

Gary was terrific. He cleared a bunch of junk from my rental property including an old fridge, stove, box spring, etc. When he saw the photos of the contents, he rescheduled so he could bring a bigger truck the next day. He stayed in excellent communication, which is always appreciated by anxious homeowners, and he did a super job. Highly recommended.

My experience was superb! I'll begin with the great customer service over the phone. As a first time home owner I was skeptical of hiring a moving company at the last minute and one I wasn't too familiar with; however, Ben and his team packed 2 storage units to their truck and moved the boxes and heavy furniture to my 4 level town home on Easter weekend with No complaints all smiles. Hard workers, I must say and quick. As I sit here I still can't believe they managed to do this without damages and my very very narrow halls and stairwells. I'll definitely hire them again and would Highly recommend to anyone moving. My fiancé and I are still talking about how great things went. Thanks again Moving With Us. You all made my transition easy!! and I'm so grateful

I hired M&M Moving & Hauling to move larger pieces of furniture out of my grandparents' home. There were a couple of issues with the scheduling where they had miscalculated the time needed for the move scheduled just before mine, but Marvin was up front about it and worked with me to find a mutually agreeable time for my move. There was also a problem with how they placed a couple of the items within the storage unit and I think they were just hot and tired by that point, but we were able to resolve the issue. As I had items moved into a storage unit, I don't know how all of them fared from the move, but they seemed to do a pretty good job with packing it in the truck and making sure items that I wasn't able to wrap were covered during the drive. They also provided a very competitive flat rate that did not contain any hidden fees. I really liked that I knew exactly what I would be paying, but it did take a couple of messages to figure out what was included in the cost. Overall, they did a good job and did it quickly and efficiently. I would hire them again.

I can't give them enough stars! I had everything planned for my move, except movers (silly me)- VKH saved me! I booked them the day BEFORE my move. They were on time, extremely professional and friendly. They sent three guys- all very polite and trustworthy. They had my furniture packed onto the truck and unpacked into my new home all under 3 hours. They work VERY quickly. I still can't believe I lucked up and booked such great movers the day before.

I never imagined that a move could be so easy!! We have an 8 month old baby and were moving from Silver Spring to SW DC. I was super anxious. I am so lucky to have found this company because they are incredible!! Nation Capital were very easy to work with from the start - they sent out a representative to give us a real estimate on the cost to completely pack and move our two bedroom apartment. On the day of the move the truck and crew showed up promptly and began packing everything. They were SUPER fast and absolutely nothing broke. Seriously - everything arrived in perfect condition!! The whole thing from the minute they showed up at our old apartment until they drove away from our new place took about 8 hours. We did no prep and no packing. They did it all for us!! On top of that, the whole crew was very nice! I was nervous (and probably annoying) but they were extremely patient with me and very professional. They worked so quickly and were very careful with all of our belongings. Their work is great and their prices are very fair. This company is very responsive so you will be able to quickly reach someone who can actually help you if you have any concerns or questions. I would absolutely use this company again. Also, I would recommend them to anyone in need of movers - especially if you need someone to pack and move you.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
