David and his crew responded quickly (on a weekend!) to our request for quotes when we realized at the last minute that our "unpack it yourself" moving truck would not fit anywhere in our new neighborhood in Alexandria. David was able to schedule a crew, (with only a day's notice!) to meet us at the ABF terminal in Manassas, unload our ABF trailer onto two of his trucks, transport our belongings to our new home, and then unload those two trucks into our four-story home (with very narrow hallways).
The two trucks/3-man crew met us at the ABF terminal at 10:00 am and waited patiently for almost 45 minutes while ABF queued up our trailer. They then worked for almost two hours, in truly horrible wind/rain/cold temperatures, to carefully load our furniture and boxes into two trucks. I can't say enough about the 3 crew members (none of whose names I caught - they were not native English speakers but that was honestly not a problem) - they worked extremely hard, non-stop, in conditions that would have caused anyone else to quit. By the time the ABF trailer was unloaded, they were soaked with rain and very cold.
The offload into our new home went off without a hitch - we arrived at the house around 1:30 p.m. and they were finished unloading two trucks (into a four-floor townhouse!) by 3:45 p.m. Again, I was so impressed by the moving crew - they didn't look very big but were able to carry multiple very heavy pieces of furniture up several flights of stairs with no problems - in addition, they were able to get several pieces that I didn't think would fit in the stairways inside, thus saving me a lot of money in storage fees.
I feel I should point out that during this time I bought coffee, donuts, and a full lunch for the moving crew - in addition to tipping them $20 each at the end of the day. I don't say this to try and make myself sound awesome, I say it because not enough people do this for their moving crews - if your crew works their asses off for you and does it in absolutely miserable weather conditions, you need to take care of them. These guys more than earned the free food and the tip, their work is really to be commended.
The crew did not unpack any boxes, nor did they put anything together for us, as we did not request that service.
Although David, the boss, was not actually present during the move, he was extremely conscientious and called me several times throughout the course of the day to check in with me. In addition, the couple of times I needed to ask him some questions, he always picked up the phone when I called.
Finally, I think the price of $100/hour was fair - several other companies quoted us anywhere from $110-$130 an hour and I honestly don't know if those other companies would have worked in the conditions these guys worked in.
All in all, fantastic job, highly recommend this company.
