Planning checklist

Prepare for success by getting started now.
4–6 months ahead: Start planning
  • Brainstorm with your significant other as to what you both like in a cake.
  • Jot down any known allergies that you or your guests may have, as far as you can determine.
  • Establish an estimate of how many people are expected to attend the wedding and add at least 10 more cake servings.
  • Determine a budget you want to spend on not only the cake, but also the delivery.
4 months ahead: Interview bakers
  • Vet a handful of sources that can create the cake you’d like — both in taste and design.
  • Set up tastings that not only allow you to taste what could be your wedding cake, but also meet the professionals that will be making it and meeting your requirements.
Up to 2 months ahead: Make selection
  • Pick two sources that meet your cake criteria and contact each to see if they can meet the expected timeframe of your event.
  • Finalize your selection of the wedding cake provider and review the contract.
  • Discuss the delivery and understand whether or not transportation will cost more.
The day of: Enjoy
  • Ask your wedding photographer to take pictures of the cake as it arrives at your venue and also when it’s presented at your reception.
  • Enjoy the cake as a couple whether spontaneously or pre-planned to ensure no one’s gown or suit is covered in frosting.
  • Chill the leftover cake later to ensure it can be preserved for future anniversaries.
