My husband and I hired Floyds DJ Services for our May 13, 2017, ceremony in Woodbridge, Va. Finding a DJ had proven to be my toughest task during the wedding planning phase. . . that is, until Kacey responded to my request for information. She's pleasant, easy to work with and was always responsive. The constant threat of rain for our outdoor ceremony has us wavering on whether we'd be outdoors or move the ceremony inside. Kacey remind flexible as we didn't make the final call until just hours before the ceremony was to start. We were lucky enough to have BOTH Kacey and her husband, DJ Unknown, for our ceremony and reception. He is a GREAT hype man, and together, they read the crowd and played the right mix of old-school jams (as I requested) and current Top 40 Hits (including a ton of songs from my personal playlist suggestion). DJ Kacey even got on the dance floor to lead the crowd into a line dance and help get the party started. Their sound system was super crisp and there wasn't a single glitch! We had selected a final song to be played, and when it came time, DJ Kacey and DJ Unknown surprised us with a PHENOMENAL send off by having our guests line up in a receiving line to end the day. In a word, it was pure magic! Floyds DJ Services is a true example of exceptional quality that doesn't break the bank. I'd recommend them 10 times over! -Kevin G.

Wedding Planning StacyAnn was absolutely AMAZING. I got in touch with her quite a few months before our wedding. Whenever I had a logistics question during the final months of planning, she was quick to respond and always had the answer. When it got to the actual month and weeks before the wedding, she was beyond amazing. The week of the wedding, she met with my mom, fiance, and me to go over final details and to finalize an incredibly detailed day-of schedule. She contacted all of the vendors to make sure that everyone was on the same page and that they knew the schedule. I didn't realize how much work that would be until I saw everything that she was doing. She was also a wonderful presence at the rehearsal, keeping us all on track and making sure that the wedding party knew what they were doing the next day. StacyAnn goes above and beyond. It was really helpful to know that I had someone who was going to make sure that everything went the way we wanted it to. I will absolutely be recommending her to everyone we know. Hiring her was one of the best decisions that we made for our wedding. She let me enjoy the final days of preparation and enjoy being a bride, instead of going crazy with all of the details. Words can't express how thankful we are to have you.

In April of 2018 I had a please to work with Denise who represents UMBER bride&groom, LLC. She demonstrated incredible organisational skills. In preparation for the wedding she made sure all vendors were notified both by text and email, she provided everyone with a timetable and contact information. I had never been to the venue before but Denise made sure she let me know the details I needed to know for successful setup and was helpful upon my arrival. She provided a smooth transition from ceremony to cocktail hour, and then to the reception. Denise made sure that the guests and vendors were veryhappy. I highly recommend UMBER bride&groom, LLC for her responsibility, organizational skills, promptness and great coordination of every aspect of the event. I look forward to working with her again. We can not express into words the phenomenon job that Extravagant Affairs did for our wedding on 11/05/2016. From the time that we chose them to handle our catering needs to the very end of our special day, their team handled every detail with the highest level of class and commitment. Our guests are still talking about the excellent food selection. If you are looking for elegance, price affordability, and professionalism, I would definitely recommend them

We hired Lisa to be our on-site wedding coordinator a month before the big day, and she jumped right in and helped everything run smoothly and efficiently. She worked with the on-site staff to decorate and prepare the venue and she did a great job. Would recommend Lisa to others.

Fairy Godmother Events is a godsend! Kadzo is highly professional and worked within my budget to plan the decorations and lighting for my "rustic-chic" barn wedding next April. Thanks to Kadzo's dedication, she was able to custom-build a decoration package that incorporated some of my own DIY elements, fit my tight budget, and offered day of wedding coordination and decorating services. Other event planning services just flat out told me that it was impossible to fit the budget that I had set aside, but FGE did what nobody else could. FGE truly goes above and beyond for their clients!

From the first phone conversation with April I knew our wedding was in good hands. She was real and professional at the same time. We walked through the time line and she pointed out things that I have not thought about which was very much appreciated. Just as promised, the day of the event the crew showed up on time and were very warm and professional to us and our guests. They knew what to do and when without any direction, they showed great initiative. The best way I can describe the crew is they were there but not there, they blended in and did a great job. April thank you so much to you and the crew, you made our wedding day even more special.

I did not know where to start to help plan a wedding for my sister. I contacted Sahar and she was amazing from the beginning to the end she was putting my sisters vision together listening to what exactly what my sister wanted. All the guest kept commenting on how beautiful the decorations were and how well organized the wedding was. She helped plan her bachorlette party as well. We would text her call her meet up to talk about plans and colors and decor it was very enjoyable working with her side by side! I would definitely come back to her when we need any other family event planned !

Our day would not have been the same without Mary. She deserves way more than 5 stars! Leading up to the event she answered all of my wedding planning questions and offered to do anything she could to help. She also communicated with my mother and mother-in-law who were helping me plan. She had great ideas and made sure we thought about the little details we missed. After every conversation, I was less stressed and more excited! Before the event, she met with us to go over details, sent out a schedule, and was there for our rehearsal. A few days before the wedding, she reached out to all of our vendors to introduce herself. I didn't have to worry about a thing on the wedding day. My family and bridesmaids could also relax. Mary is priceless. If you're questioning whether you should have a day-of coordinator the answer is YES. If you're having trouble deciding who, the answer is MARY. She was so sweet to work with and we loved her we-can-make-that-happen attitude. I can't thank her enough for making our wedding day dreams come true :)

Words can not even begin to describe how AWESOME Denean's Party by Design is!!! I originally was one of those brides who thought I could do it all myself until I realized I COULDNT! In my search for a decorator and Day of Coordinator I came across Denean's Party By Design. From that first phone call, that first email I was already sold! The professionalism and courtesy that she showed let me know I was on the right path. After our first meeting I quickly ran home and told my fiancé this is the one! Pam, I could tell you thank you a million times and that still wouldn't be enough! Between the décor, the rehearsal, the actual wedding day and all the calls and emails in between you never skipped a beat and always put my mind at ease! I could not have asked for a better group! I have already sung your praises to several friends and co workers to use your services! Some people are in wedding planning for the money but this group I can truly say does it from the heart! I am forever grateful, my wedding was AMAZING thanks to you!! Its been almost a month and everyone still raves about how beautiful and organized it was. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I had the distinct pleasure of working with the incomparable Michele Palmer (and her dynamic team) for my recent wedding in October 2016. I hired Michele and her team to help with month-of wedding coordination. Initially, I thought I only needed someone to help set up the venue on the day of the wedding and handle week-of phone calls with the other vendors to make sure that everyone was on board and had the correct details. However, as this was my first time planning a wedding, and despite my tendency to be an extremely organized person, there were so many little things that Michele and her team took care of that I hadn’t even expected or anticipated and that helped my wedding go off without a hitch. I would ABSOLUTELY hire Michele and her team again, for any event I host, and merrily pay whatever price to secure her services. In chronological order, and among other kudos for things that I am sure happened behind the scenes and of which I am unaware, I can credit Michele and her team with: -Coordinating the walkthrough at the venue with the caterer, myself, and her team (which happened more than a month prior to the wedding) -Working with the unusually inflexible venue to book a real band, get the band in for training, and arrange for the band to be there with ample time to set up and take down their equipment -Working with the venue to design a floor plan and timeline that the venue was able to understand (despite their perpetually baffled reactions to things from cabaret-style seating to the timing of cocktail hour) -Arranging two rendezvous with myself and my husband (prior to and after the wedding) to meet halfway and transfer LOTS of wedding “stuff” from one vehicle to another. (NEW BRIDES: this is SUPER IMPORTANT because it allowed all of our wedding guests and ourselves to leave the venue at the end of the evening without having to wait around for any handmade decorations, gifts, etc. to be collected and transported into someone’s car. It was the #1 thing that made us feel like we could celebrate on the day rather than be the hosts.) -Chunking last-minute detail information for me, such as deciding on linens, and communicating that information to the caterer (including number of each type of linen for each specific type of table in the venue) -Making useful suggestions that enhanced the wedding experience for the guests (pintuck linens instead of plain, three lanterns on the tables rather than one so they wouldn’t get lost) -Exchanging seemingly hundreds of text messages to answer my last-minute questions and attend to last-minute requests for things such as changing out an escort card when one of the guests broke up with his date two days before the wedding -Arranging for 29 sets of fairy lights for our lanterns, checking the batteries for each one, and stuffing them into the lanterns (saving me from a seriously tedious task) -Being prepared to handle any number of high-maintenance relatives, including knowing their names and where they would be seated -Handling guests that showed up to the venue 75 minutes early (!!!) when the venue was not ready to receive them -Checking in with myself and my husband multiple times throughout the evening to make sure we were OK and had everything we needed (food, drink, a moment to collect ourselves) -Working hand-in-glove with the caterer to accommodate our unusual ceremony (of unknown duration) -Helping me to bustle my dress quickly and efficiently with little direction (CRUCIAL when you don’t have someone at your final fitting and simply need someone to bustle the dress who has bustling experience) -Tearing it up on the drums as a guest drummer for the live band for a song or two -Checking in after the wedding to arrange any and all wrapping-up details PS: Michele can totally hook you up with lanterns and make your tables look SUPER romantic! See attached photo. :-)

Having had two major events in my life in a matter of a two month span it was nothing but a God sent to be able to have JayElleCee commissioned to provide me with several needs. For my wedding all the products I ordered exceeded my expectations and for the birth of my son all his new custom outfits continue to be the talk outside of how handsome he is. I'd recommend this business to anyone looking to have custom items made with quality, care, love and creativity!

My mom looked into hiring a planner for my wedding, and I am so grateful that my mom found Trina! I was in over my head when I took on a wedding that we had to set up ourselves the day of, and Trina made the day go flawlessly. I was able to enjoy the day without worrying about the details. The entire day went according to plans and was right on schedule. Not once did I have to worry about the schedule or if the day was falling behind. Trina was extremely helpful and friendly throughout the process. They were able to provide extra details to make the place look fantastic! Thank you so much for all the hard work!!

My husband and I are SUPER EXCITED with the outcome and very careful planning of our 10 year "Vow Renewal"!! Planned by Shauna Robinson of 'Brides-to- be Wedding's. Mrs. Robinson came to our home and explained 'exactly' what "Brides to-be'- does', she was also concerned with what our expectation's were for our wedding. We were so impressed with her kindness, her elegance, her organization skills and her ability to take the stress of planning off of my plate! She saved me so much stress!!! Our wedding was Simply Amazing thanks to Shauna! She stayed in contact with all of my vendors, the venue coordinator and anyone else involved in my wedding! I couldn't believe just how organized she was...she took my stress away and assured me that she was going to make sure my wedding was everything we thought it would be, and she delivered!!! I would highly recommend Brides- to- be to everyone" that wants a Awesome, patient Wedding Coordinator! I truly appreciate her work! Awesome, just AWESOME!!!!!!! L. Harvey

I didn't think I needed planning assistance, but eventually became overwhelmed with all of the shower details. I met Tillie through this site and she helped me every step of the way. It really pays to hire someone who has experience and knows what they're doing. Party planning sounds fun and easy, but there's alot to it that I didn't realize at first. Thank you Tillie for helping me and creating such an amazing and fun bridal shower.

Omg! Seye was really amazing. I was really stressing especially up to the day and she really helped me relieve a lot of stress. When I was freaking out she would just say “it’s fine I’ll handle it” or “I got it don’t worry” and I would be looking like are you crazy! Lol I have so much to do. She really held it down though I must admit. I hired her as a DOC but from day one she working and helping me out to the very end. She was always in touch with me and I was always able to reach her. My wedding day was nothing short of magical and people are still raving about it and Seye. Everyone was like who was that she was on top of everything! If you are second guessing on hiring Seye don’t! Hire her and I swear you will not regret it. She is worth every single penny and more. If I ever do anything again I will hire her and I highly recommend her to any and everybody. I miss her already and if I could I would go back and do my wedding over again. Thank you Seye.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How much does it cost for a wedding planner?

Wedding planning is a full-time job — unless you hire a professional to handle the hard work for you. The cost for a wedding planner will depend on the level of service you desire. The least expensive wedding planner option is day-of coordination, then partial service, then full-service.

The national average cost for wedding planning is between $990 and $1,300. Costs are greatly affected by region, with rural or smaller-town wedding planners often far more affordable than planners in higher-cost cities. Here are some examples of the various levels of wedding planning and their potential average costs:

    • Day-of-wedding coordination: $800-$1,700. Day-of services can include the planner finalizing all details, creating a timeline, confirming vendors and overseeing all setup, day-of activities, and cleanup. The couple does all the front-end planning and contracts all the vendors. Time commitment could be about 15-25 hours, depending on pricing.
    • Partial service: $1,500-$3,800. Here the planner works with the couple from the beginning, helping contract vendors, creating a timeline, and overseeing all details of day-of execution. Time commitment could be about 30-60 hours, depending on package and pricing.
    • Full service: $3,500-$8,000 or more. Here the professional handles all wedding and planning details including working on design, securing rentals, getting the venue and vendors, and handling complete execution of the event. Time commitment could be 50-150 hours or more, depending on package and pricing.
    • Consulting: $50-$150 per hour for design, vendor, reception and other wedding planning consultation.
