Luis installed for me a 90 ft. wooden privacy fence and a wide 'W’ gate. He was knowledgeable, bought materials and advised where I needed a professional opinion. The work was done fast by two men in a day and a half. Even when it rained on the second day, he did not leave the site but waited for the rain to dissipate before embarking on the job. I'd certainly recommend him for a fence job.
Christian and his team did a great job on the replacement of bricks and iron railing along steps leading one story up to front door of our townhouse. Original railing was 30 years old, totally rusted, and disconnected from the steps, which made it a serious liability. The team found bricks that matched the shape of the current ones, constructed the railing so it was identical to the original design (required by the HOA) and painted it with three layers of primer/paint to fend off future rust. Project included sanding and repainting an iron gate as well. I am totally pleased with the finished product and will be soon using the 5th Gen Group for another brick project.
Henry did a fabulous job tiling our fireplace with marble herringbone mosaic tiles and we couldn't be happier with the finished product. Henry took care of lots of little details and carpentry to get everything just right, he's really quite the artist. I would highly recommend his services, he does outstanding work for a very fair price. We can't wait to have him back to do more jobs around our house.
Tim worked on various installations and assemblies, like assembling a stepping stool, wooden futon, and installing towel racks and curtain rods, etc. He is a hard worker and seems to have endless energy. I have been very happy with the above mentioned work, and found that he was willing to go the extra mile to deal with problems encountered along the way, e.g. a weird plastic piece appearing on what was supposed to be a bronze metal towel rack, so he did nifty things to hide the plastic. However, more recently, an assignment he had happily accepted--to build two side tables and a coat rack--had to be aborted. Unfortunately that was after lots and lots of time had passed, I wished he had called it off or not accepted the assignment in the first place unless he could see it through, so that I could have had the items done by someone else long ago, as I was desperate to get several home improvement things out of the way. The side tables--which are pretty--were done for the most part but not fully (I still need to find another woodworker to do the unfinished business) and the coat rack was not done at all. Somehow his heart was simply not in it anymore, but would have been better to just straightforwardly cancel a job rather than dragging things out. This is why I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars. He did feel bad about how things went with these three pieces and therefore didn't charge me for one of the side tables.
Vintage Wood Floors and Stairs took on a challenge to replace and repair an extremely poor interior stairway project left undone by a prior contractor who did not have the experience to install new wood stairs which replaced carpet. In fact their work was out of code and seriously poor craftsmanship. Arnold and team assessed the damage, immediately saw a way to rectify and repair the damage, and most important, provide us stairs that were in code and as beautiful as we had hoped and expected. They worked very hard throughout the duration of the project, on time and on budget with no surprises. They cleaned up exceptionally well everyday and kept the workspace very well maintained. The result of the care and professionalism which Arnold's team possess can be seen in the attached pictures. There were some real challenges in this project. It was a pleasure working thru them with Arnold who was able to offer advice, counsel and recommendations that we could use to make decisions along the way. We recommend Vintage and Arnold highly and unreservedly. They know what they are doing, they deliver what they say they will, and they care just as much as we do about the quality of the finished project. Even with a few minor changes we wanted to make at the end of the job were well received and executed. We know that if anything were found to be amiss, that Arnold would do his best to get it finished to our expectations. You can be highly confident that Vintage is a 5 Star team and we have the highest praise and recommend them highly.
Mauricio was awesome! Super responsive and easy to work with. He started the job on Saturday before the rain hit, came back to finish the work yesterday. Our front stoop and stairs look amazing, the railings are on there rock solid now too! If we need more stone/concrete work done - we'll definitely be giving him a call.
I've hired Jeff now to help with two projects--helping with our powder room (installed shiplap to the walls, installed the new toilet, put plumbing in the pedestal vanity and installed the new door along with the handle), as well as installing our new front door with sidelights. The powder room looks fantastic and I'm very pleased with the handiwork of both Jeff and his colleague, EJ. It was nice that he didn't pressure us to pay a lump sum and do the entire thing himself. We like to do DIY when we can, but time/skill level doesn't always allow. I painted, my husband installed the tile floor, and Jeff did the rest. I was pleasantly surprised to learn he does plumbing too, because we've been rooked by a few plumbers who wanted to charge roughly double what Jeff charged to install the new toilet and put plumbing in the sink. He obviously takes pride in his work and stays until the last detail is taken care of. He has a friendly and fun personality, too. He gives tips along the way without being condescending. He and a different colleague also spent a recent Saturday installing our new door/sidelights after the previous (ugly) door/frame had been damaged in a windstorm. He not only directed us on where to get the high-quality door (TW Perry), but he and his colleague did impeccable work to ensure it fit and closed properly so my husband can have his dream smart lock system (#suburbanlifegoals). I couldn't be happier with how the door turned out, and now we can lock our door--how novel! Our house was built in 1971 so we have no shortage of projects on our radar, and I wouldn't hesitate to hire Jeff again--and we will! His rates are always lower than other quotes I have gotten for the same work, without sacrificing on attention to detail.
I had Baiza Construction replace the floor and wall tile in each of our 3 bathrooms a year ago. I waited this long to submit a review just to be sure everything held up nicely. They also did all the plumbing to replace the shower fixtures. Honestly, all I have is good things to say about their crew. First, the price was very fair. Second, he said it would take 5 or 6 full days to finish, and it took them 5 days and just a few hours on the 6th day. The tile work came out perfect. Every day, the guys checked with me to verify any ideas I had, including what pattern I wanted, or exactly how high I wanted the fixtures. They were sure to keep a clean area throughout, and never left a mess overnight. Anyway, I'm very happy with the work that was done, and I would definitely hire them again, and have recommended them to others.
I highly recommend Mr. Hamidi. In selling my house, the buyer requested railing put on our front and back steps, and a support beam replaced on the porch. Because these items were governed by city of Alexandria code, we had to get it done before we could close. Unfortunately, we did not get the inspection report until late on a Friday afternoon. Mr. Hamidi came to do an estimate at 5:00 on a Friday, about an hour after I contacted him. He came to do the job on Monday. Not only was Mr. Hamidi fast and professional, but he really worked with me. We had other projects going on that we were trying to squeeze in before the closing. Teams had to work around each other, but Mr. Hamidi was patient and understanding. I cannot recommend EY Construction highly enough. Though our job was small, I have full confidence Mr. Hamidi would handle any job with speed, quality, and professionalism. Great work.
Matt tiled my bathroom walls and floor. He was very fair in his pricing for his excellent quality of work. He showed up every day for work exactly on time and worked hard to make sure I was happy with his work every step of the way. Of all my years in working with general contractors, Matt's professionalism was my best experience. In terms of his skills with tile, he fixed existing problems with my bathroom in terms of level, tile placement, and severe lippage. When he was done with his work, my bathroom was beautiful! The tile placement gave the bathroom a better sense of space, the floor and walls were level, and there was no lippage. He suggested some aesthetic choices which I went with and the end result was beautiful. Finally, Matt was honest with me in terms of work specialty that he was not comfortable with; that is, I had some aesthetic choices in mind, but he was straightforward with me and said he was unable to do that. I appreciate that honesty, whereas some contractors says they can complete certain special work when, in fact, it's a stretch and does not come out with the quality we hope for. All in all, I would recommend Matt for tile work. He is a strong 5-stars in terms of quality of work, professionalism, and, on a personal level, he is just a very nice man and is easy to talk to.
Hired Gary and his guys to do a tile backsplash in the kitchen and put up a wood accent wall kit in the bedroom. Both projects turned out amazing! They were a pleasure to deal with and communicated with us throughout the project. I will definitely be hiring Gary again for upcoming projects.
Callie, Randy, and Andy were great to work with! Callie is super personable and easy to coordinate everything with. Randy and Andy were great craftsmen who spent extra time and effort to make sure our project was completed to perfection. Our project was to install two sets of handrails in our old, historic home. Along the way we ran into a few snags - steel studs, light switches in the way, the wrong size ballasters. The guys took care of each obstacle professionally and timely. Once the railings were all said and done, we noticed that one of the posts needed a finishing touch. Randy came all the way out again just to do a finishing touch that took 3 minutes. The railings look amazing - very classy. We will definitely use these guys again for our under stair storage project. Thanks Parz Designs!
We used Naula's Hardwood Floors last September right before we put our house on the market to refinish the entire main floor (kitchen, dining room, living room, hallway and 2 flights of stairs which meant they treads were done by hand). I got 4 bids and they were the most reasonable (by a hair from the lowest big but lowest none the less!). Because we have big dogs scratching the floors from play they really needed attention. I liked how Luis paid attention to detail and was very careful to make sure nothing was damaged. We were very pleased with finished product, so much so that we had Luis finish our kitchen floor in our new house. This is a custom kitchen and I wanted to make sure there was no damage to the painted cabinets. The team was careful and did an amazing job and the floors look great. I highly recommend Naula's floors for a job well done at a good price.
