FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I don't have a complicated pricing system - I typically charge by the hour. I estimate 10 pages of work/review in an hour and charge $15 an hour. So if I reviewed a 100 page document, I would estimate 10 hours of work for a total of $150. For documents over 100 pages, I charge by the page at a rate of $1.65 a page. Sometimes, depending on the client's input into a template, the formatting needs more work than the actual content. That can add a little more to the time depending on how difficult it is to correct. Other times, a client will ask for a content and organizational review, as well as formatting fixes, which may take a little more time. Typically, for a dissertation or a thesis, I will charge a flat fee of $200. I communicate pretty closely with clients, so if there is an issue with the document that may require more time than usual, I will consult with the client about a way ahead.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I mostly network with other writers and collect samples of formats, layouts, and documents so that I have a collection of resources when I get stuck on a project or when a client needs ideas. I belong a to a few Communities of Practice for Writers and Editors and I network with former classmates from my Masters program.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I work mostly with academic projects - dissertations, theses, monographs, course work projects. I also review white papers, proposals, and books. I have provided mentoring services in research, organization, and writing to individuals and groups.
