After several attempts to find someone to rip out some overgrown bushes, a tree and do some dirt work I finally found Shawn. He was on time and was ready to get to work. He did a great job in my backyard and I was very happy with his overall service. It was a relief to finally find a landscaper who would show up, communicate and actually do the job. Thanks Shawn!

I had a fence put by Moore Tree Service. The crew was very friendly and Robert was very good working with my schedule. He was very accommodating to my requests and even did a few extra things I asked that I had not originally thought of when quoted. My fence looks amazing and they even came back a few days later just to double check it was done right. I highly recommend using them.

I couldn't be happier with the level of service John provided for me at a moments notice. I had a large silver maple that has been slowly dying over the years and had not been trimmed/topped for probably around 15 to 20 years. When I realized an ice storm was rolling in last weekend I was scrambling to get someone to come out the same day so as to have it done prior to the storm hitting. John came right out, gave me a great price to just climb and cut down and lower the limbs and I took care of the rest. We were able to get about a 60ft tree down to about 40 feet w/ half of the limbs it had prior to trimming. Great guy and a very hard worker! This was my first time hiring a tree service and I was rather nervous I would end up hiring some crooks.....but rest assure this company will deliver!

Josh did a nice job cleaning up a tree that fell during a storm, general tree trimming and cleaning up some of my overgrown backyard. We dealt with some scheduling issues because of weather but he was easy to communicate with and completed the job timely. I would recommend his company for any tree or general yard cleanup work.

Jared and his team did an awesome job on our fencing project. They completed it quickly and were very professional. He made sure that we were pleased all along the way. They overcame the obstacles; e.g., trees that needed to be removed, cable line that ran right along the property/fence line. Highly recommend!

The job I had for them was a small side yard but quite the clean up with weeds, uncovering an over grown and burried patio, a small tree removal, even removing seeds from a squirrel feeder. Second Chance Lawn Care came and took care of the job right away! It was prompt, affordable, friendly, fast, and reliable. They even worked through the light rain to get it done as promised. I'd use them again in the future for my lawn care needs!

Ralph is a very conscientious worker, paying attention to details and what needs to be done in our yard. He is great at trimming and keep our yard looking very-well maintained. Ralph tells us about changes he would like to make, lawn applications and any special lawn needs he sees. He is also very willing to do other landscape jobs that might need to be done, such as cutting ornamental grasses down in the spring, tree and shrub trimming, cleaning up fall leaves and gutter cleaning. We highly recommend Dream Green Lawn Care and services.

I haven't done any big jobs in Wichita ks since I moved here from Los Angeles 3 years ago. I missed doing landscaping so that's why I'm slowly starting my own business in Wichita ks.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
