My experience with Stephanie was great! She is a wonderful person and really showed love and care to my cat, as I am certain she does with every pet she sees. My cat looked absolutely amazing when Stephanie brought her home and I couldn't have been happier with the service we received. I will definitely be back to see Stephanie when my kitty needs a little pampering and I will also recommend Stephanie to any and every pet owners out there. Thank you so much Stephanie. ☺

Jodi did a great job working with my dog. I had an ususual situation and Jodi was willing to work with me and my dog to achieve the specific goals I had in mind. After initially reaching out, Jodi was quick to get in touch with me and we had an appointment sooner than I expected, which was so helpful!

I am a dog trainer and have offered pet sitting services myself, but now I've been referring clients to Stacy for pet sitting. I have known her for 15 years and have her pet sit my own dog. I don't trust many people to take care of my dog, but I always feel at ease when I leave town and know that Stacy is taking great care of her and our home. My dog gets so excited when she sees her. You won't regret hiring her!

You can tell right away that Wendy love pets and has a great rapport with them. Even shy pets become confident that Wendy is their friend. She has the skills and training to help pets that are behaviorally challenged become more confident and understand the "rules" you set for them within your household in a positive way that increases their confidence rather than making them feel "bad" without understanding what they did wrong. She uses positive reinforcement training techniques and this creates a friendly environment and reinforces in your pet that they are a beloved member of the family.

Our family went out of town and we have two dogs and three cats that we keep inside that need a lot of attention. We hired Heather and gave her keys to our home. All I can say is she is AMAZING!! She took GREAT care of our animals and left our home in the exact shape it was in when we left! We were so happy to have met her and we will definitely use her in the future!! We recommend her 100 percent for all your pet sitting needs! Thanks again Heather! :)

I'm in the Louisville area and local small business started to help people around the city to help them and their pets to feel like that they are meant for one another and to make sure that they stay together and not left out on the street. My price is based on the job and the pet that is and how long it take to take care of the problem. It is better if the animals are young, but if you have an old dog that need to learn a new trick then. I will be happy to see what happen with the animal and like the old saying can't teach an old dog a new trick, but I believe that that they can with time. So please, if you like what you hear then get at me and will go from there. Have a great day.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
