Overall: Good Interior team (2 ladies, 1 man): Outstanding Outside gutter and outside window team: Average My client's house is a 6700+ sq. ft. house, 2 interior stories, basement, garage, lots of windows (some huge! and some 2.5 stories above ground) Attitude of crews and owner: Very good and helpful Skill of crews: Interior crew - Mostly excellent on a house that had some cleaning challenges in the kitchen and master bath (missed a few dust bunnies however) Exterior crew - Needs additional training, had to ask for repeat window cleaning of noticeable streaks created by their squeegee methods (they should have seen and corrected without having to be asked) PLUS they brought a defective pressure washer to site and we lost a huge amount of time waiting for this issue to be resolved. Then later I was told about the number of man hours involved without any mention of this lost time that I paid for (total billing was over $1000). 3 specific jobs quoted in this bundle: Interior general cleaning Interior and Exterior windows cleaning Exterior gutter pressure washing In retrospect, this job was just too big for this company. Had to call them back twice, once to fix and reinstall latticework that fell to the floor (fortunately no one was injured and nothing inside but the latticework was damaged - we got lucky here!) that they did not properly secure after cleaning a very large arched window. They are nice folks who are sincere, but this job was a bit too much for them.

Nice work and reliable. He power-washed the deck, repaired a wrought iron fence, washed a high window, and some miscellaneous yard work. Work was done well.

Rockwell Remodeling saved my sanity. House is 10 years old and we were the second owners. Two windows never closed properly and no one could figure out why. Rockwell took the time to research online, call manufacturer and spent two different times at my house working on the windows. He figured it out! Come to find out when installed they never took out all of the packing protection - it looked just like part of the window. All of the windows now close! Thank you so much.

Our project was assembling an electric fireplace/heater with TV stand. After receiving two outrageous bids, I reposted the project under handyman. I got a reasonable quote from Shawn the same evening and he was able to do the work the next day. He showed up within the agreed upon 30-minute window. He struck me as gentle and soft-spoken and competent. He completed the assembly in a short time, then took maybe two seconds to repair a cabinet door that had come off its hinge. We will definitely call him again this winter to work on projects around the house. So happy to have found him!

I had three windows with broken glass. One of the windows also had a broken glazing stop (trim piece). Before agreeing to the job I was told that the trim piece could be repaired too and that it was included in the quote. He did an excellent job on glass replacement. However, the trim piece was not replaced, and I was told he couldn't find anything suitable. Now I might need to replace the whole window - making the original repair meaningless for that window.

Jim was great! He came out and gave us a quote the very next day after I contacted him about what it would cost to paint our living room. Then he worked it into his schedule to paint just two days after that! His pricing is very affordable compared to some of the other companies out there. He is friendly and meticulous about his work. I'd recommend him to anyone looking for someone to provide quality and professional service at a reasonable and affordable cost. Thanks Jim! We couldn't be happier!

I recently purchased a home and after being taken by an unscrupulous contractor,Divine Development came in and saved the day. I cannot say enough good things about this company. They go above and beyond to get your work done in a timely manner. And the work is done very well. I've worked with them on two home projects, flooring ,and just recently had them do my kitchen remodel. I priced out the big box stores, as well as other smaller companies ,and Divine Development hands down had the best prices. They listened to what I wanted and my vision for the space ,and my kitchen turned out beautiful. If you are need quality work at a great price give this company a call .You wont be disappointed.

Kenny is a true professional with a very easy style. He found and coordinated the replacement of off sized patio doors and windows to replace our old compromised original units. His crew finished everything to above our expectations and I would highly recommend his services to everybody. His expertise far exceeds our job and I would encourage anyone to take advantage of his talents.

I am grateful to have found SRE Construction. My dining room renovation project began with a couple of cans of paint, a scraper, and a profound lack of appreciation of the difficulties of removing decades of paint from beadboard and the casing of a window. I could not be more pleased with how SRE Construction took my bad start and turned it into a beautiful room with finishing touches appropriate for the age and style of my home while working around walls and a floor that are best described as straight-ish. I have a window I no longer have to hide behind drapery, a beautiful window seat I will enjoy for many years, and the feeling of stepping into a jewel box of a room with the crown molding, chair rail, and baseboard. Thank you for your hard work on a wretchedly cold day!

Mr. Hellard and his crew did a wonderful job repairing leaks around skylights and popups on our roof. After torrential downpours, we are still leak free.

I needed my ceiling fixed along one whole wall. A window in the bathroom scrapped caulked and painted and a sink and faucet replaced and a non-working light fixture replaced. Trevor with 360 Home Solutions was wonderful. Not only did he advice me on what supplies I needed, He was very accommodating when he realized that I had bought the wrong sink that would totally revamp the plumbing underneath the kitchen counter. Though the above mentioned are things that are expected from a professional, what separates 360 Home Solutions from the rest is that they were very honest and professional with me even at times when I lost my cool. While they are not the cheapest professionals at thumbtack they still saved me money by fixing my existing light fixture free of charge and by keeping me from doing a lot of unnecessary expensive plumbing. They also went the extra mile to purchase the supplies and pick them up at no extra charge! Rita Alanoner

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
