Hello! My name is Elizabeth and I teach violin, viola, and piano lessons to students of all ages and skill levels here in Louisville, KY. I've always had a deep passion for sharing my love of music and started teaching students when I was 13 years old. I have a Master's degree in violin teaching and am also proficient at teaching/performing on the piano and other stringed instruments. I'm proud to offer highly informative lessons in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere. Lessons take place at my home studio in South Louisville near Preston Highway. The payment schedule operates on a monthly basis, with the month's payment due upon the first lesson of each month.
Cancellation policy: I understand things come up/sickness etc and I please ask for 24hrs notice if possible. I will schedule a makeup lesson or conduct a double lesson the following week.
Biography
Violinist and Pianist Elizabeth Smith has an active career as performer and educator in Louisville, KY. Elizabeth received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Violin Performance from the Mahurin Honors College at Western Kentucky University and completed her Master's degree in Violin Pedagogy at the University of Louisville. Elizabeth has performed with orchestral and chamber groups throughout the United States and China, including the Louisville Philharmonia, the Symphony at WKU, the University of Louisville Orchestra, Orchestra Enigmatic, the Concentus String Quartet, the Amoroso Quartet, and the Pauli Quintet. She has also studied or taken part in masterclasses with Ray Iwazumi, Ida Kavafian, Jaime Laredo, Susan Paik, Saeka Matsuyama, Jun Iwasaki, Mimi Zweig, Felix Olschofka and more.
Elizabeth has taught a private studio of students of all ages for over a decade, in addition to her work with Whitters String Studios, the WKU Pre-College Strings Program, Bowling Green Fine Arts Academy, and the University of Louisville String Academy. Elizabeth uses a mixed-method teaching system based on the principles of renowned pedagogues Suzuki, Sassmannshaus, and Rolland, to create a tailored approach for each student. Her teaching goals include creating a comfortable set-up, precise intonation, and correct technique with an emphasis on tension-free playing. Elizabeth currently offers music lessons on the violin, viola, and piano.
