So, one afternoon I decided to work on my computer while I gaze out of the window. Needing to begin my day, I left briefly to shower. To my surprised, when I return it was storming, my window was open and I left my laptop open on my bench. My machine was rain upon for at least 15 minutes before I was able to attempt to dry it off. I contact Thumbtack, and Mr. Myers was the first to reply. I wasn’t confident that my baby could be resuscitated, but I was willing to give it a try. Mr. Meyers not only replied promptly, he actually came to my house and picked up the machine, “ WOW”! He was very transparent regarding pricing and his ability to bring my baby back to life. Lets just say my machine and I have been happily reunited, and I am thrilled to report that she’s operating even better than before. Not only was Henry very professional, he was extremely nice as well; Mr. Meyers kept me informed throughout the entire process! I would recommend Mr. Henry Meyers without any reservations! Job well done!!!

Quality 4 Less came out on time, figured out where my leak was coming from...then went to talk to the supply house and got the replacement part for me, came over and fixed the leak. On time, professional and charged exactly what we talked about. Would definitely hire again.

Alverina and her team did a great job with house cleaning at the rental I was moving from and also the new home we purchased. Our new home had a lot of construction done before we moved in and Heart & Soul did a great job cleaning top to bottom getting rid of all the construction mess. Very flexible, easy to work with and just a wonderful person. I plan on using Heart and Soul again and strongly recommend her services.

Arthur Douglas, New Orleans, LA Window Replacement Thank you Mr. Duncan for doing a fantastic job. Mr. Duncan puts the pro in professional. He took out my existing window. Saved me tons of money by installing a 36 by 52 window instead of the 36 by 51 and 1/2 (Uneven dimensions means special order). He sealed the gaps in my brick. He put a never rot barrier around my window and a silicone seal that blends straight in ( Wonderful work I still don't know where the silicone is). He transformed the new construction window that I bought into a replacement window (saving me more money). He chalked my existing window frame and filled in all the holes. And that's not all folks. His clean up was excellent. You would have not know work was done unless I told you. He carries all his tools and shows up early. Did I mention he shows up early? And the best part is he is very knowledgeable and creative. Everything you need into one. I highly recommend Mr. Duncan for any home improvement needs. P.S. Mr. Duncan I have more projects waiting on you!

Todd was extremely helpful with installing my laminate flooring after my house took on 5" of water from the recent floods. He offered a reasonable price to do so and was able to help out with additional house repairs (such as hanging the sheetrock). He took his time and was very thorough with the installation and was always keeping me updated throughout the entire process (as I'm currently displaced and living out of town). I appreciated how honest and candid he has been throughout the rebuilding process. Definitely plan to hire Todd again for additional repairs around the house.

Working with Bill has been a pleasure. He has been quick to respond and professional. We are working to repair a water damaged home long distance and he has been extremely helpful and has gone out of his way to meet with our insurance adjuster. He also is more than knowledgeable enough to discuss the relevant issues such as acceptable levels of moisture in the home. He has made the process much less stressful than if we were handling things on our own. I am a real-estate investor and finding people who do what they say they are going to do has become increasingly difficult. I am grateful to have found this company and plan on using their services for future projects. Additionally, I would sincerely recommend them to family and friends in need of a contractor.

Garcia Remodeling Construction are punctual, diligent, and extremely thorough. We have an old 100 year old shotgun home and every single one of our windows leaked when it rained, letting water into the walls and creating horrendous mold inside and outside of the walls. Erix inspected all our windows and understood the problems immediately. Within a week he provided an estimate and we scheduled a start date for the project, which included fixing and sealing the windows and opening up our walls to remove and replace all the damaged wood and insulation. Erix and his colleagues took great care throughout the project, including moving and covering all our belongings to limit dust from the work. Most impressive is one would never know that our walls had to be cut open and replaced around the windows. They did an impeccable job spackling, painting, etc. We have peace of mind now, whenever it rains, that our house is completely sealed from the elements, and that we don't have to worry about mold any longer. I highly recommend Garcia Remodeling.

The got the materials and took the old away. The work was neat and very professional. I'll definitely call them again for any home improvement. Great company!

My Wife and I were in the process of getting our current home in Montz, La ready for sale in the local real estate market. The house had several items that needed to be addressed with repairs ranging from a leaky roof in the covered porch, laminate floor repairs, roof inspection, glass window replacement, porch door replacement, and new carpeting replacement. Gasper Pumila managed to handle these repairs either himself or arrange to have other co contractors come in and repair or replace. We are very satisfied with Mr. Pumila's service and would recommend him to other homeowners. David & Tammy Guzzardi Montz, Louisiana

We hired SEC HomeRemodeling to repair and remodel our bathroom floor and shower surround. The subfloor had rotted away under our existing 50 year old tile floor in our sole bathroom. Paul and Todd fixed the structural problems under our floor (repairing/adding floor joists, installing new subfloor) and now we have a beautiful, solid porcelain tile floor. They also remodelled our tile shower surround and installed a new tub and bronze shower hardware. We love our new bathroom. You can see the handmade quality work and the attention to detail that Paul and Todd put into our project. Our remodel came in on budget and was completed a few days earlier than the estimated time. We put our trust in this company, and they respected that trust. Overall, we had a great experience with SEC Home Remodelling, and we will use them for future projects.

This was the first time I used Thumbtack and also a first time for my painter. The app gave me the ability to receive multiple quotes and I took advantage of the opportunity when I scheduled 5 walk through bids in my home. I'll start by saying that my home is over 35 years old and I have high expectations. I wanted my walls to look like new construction. This was not going to be an easy job as it entailed floating all of the seams in my sheetrock, multiple layers of high build to give my walls a new smooth finish, new interior paint throughout, baseboards, crown molding, window sills, trim, cabinets, all new 6 panel interior doors, and a lot more. I also had a VERY tight deadline. 3 of the 5 painters that gave me a bid were one man shows and I didn't have the confidence that the job could be complete in time. I couldn't have made a better choice hiring Bobby. He is extremely easy to work with. His pride of workmanship shows. His painting crew and carpenters hold the same values. He was not the highest nor the lowest bid and I can honestly say the highest bid could not have completed this job to my expectations like Bobby did. If you are painting 1 room or an entire house, I highly recommend him. I will submit before and after pictures once I get decor back in place. I was considering putting my home on the market but everything looks like new construction so I may stay a while longer :)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
