Prompt and professional every step of the way. Most reasonable quote and high quality work to match. I hired Yourhouse enterprises to remove a rotten portion of my deck and replace the wood. He showed up exactly when he said he would, provided pressure treated wood and installed within a day. Cleaned up all of the rotten deck boards and even replaced a portion of the railing that was damaged when it had to be removed to replace the boards. Thank you!

I hired Mr. Rodrick and his crew to repair termite damage in my kitchen and several repairs outside. He was very thorough, neat and always there when promised. He was able to squeeze me in during the holidays when I had time off. They replaced rotten soffit and facia boards around my house, cleaned and repaired my gutters, repainted all of it, and added some columns on my carport. As it turned out, the damage from the termites was much worse than we thought. The entire wall had to be ripped out, window re-framed, cabinet taken down, new sheetrock and painting. I spent more money than I wanted, but we couldn't see the damage without opening the wall. For all the work they did, the price was right. I would definitely re-hire this company for any future work needed.

I had a window leak that that William and his associate repaired. They did a neat, clean job. Hasn't rained since to test, but am confident it is an effective repair. They also repaired a porch railing/spindles and, again, did a good job. They seem knowledgable and efficient, and very trustworthy. I have a list of their estimates for my "honey-dos" and will certainly be calling on them in the future.

I asked them to pressure wash my driveway and house. They were very punctual and got right to work. The driveway was very clean afterwards and they got all the dirt and mildew off the house. Overall they did an outstanding job.

We hired Rose de Nola to build a gable roof patio cover over our deck. We never use to use it due to the heat. They were friendly, affordable and the Project Manager Jordan was a great guy. We would hire them in the future.

This was simply the best handyman/construction experience I've ever had. John was prompt, thorough, diligent, communicative, and fair. I'm excited to hire him in the future. My wife and I are first time homeowners and we inherited a large deck from the previous owners. I had played around with the idea of redoing the deck myself, started, and realized I was out of my league. John really saved my a**. My wife was starting to get annoyed at how long this was taking and John messaged me on Sunday and was there Monday morning starting work. He did such an amazing job and we really couldn't be happier. We finally get to enjoy the deck. Also, being a first time homeowner, I didn't know how to navigate hiring someone to work on the house. I had hired someone else (NOT John) in June to cut back the deck and level it, but it was so stressful. Every day I would wonder if he would show up. He'd start the job, then I wouldn't hear from him for a week. It was a terrible experience for a variety of reasons. Working with John was the COMPLETE opposite. Seriously night and day He was upfront, fair, and I really felt like he cared about the work that he was doing. I only wish we had hired him earlier. He did such a beautiful job on the deck. We really couldn't be happier.

My Wife and I were in the process of getting our current home in Montz, La ready for sale in the local real estate market. The house had several items that needed to be addressed with repairs ranging from a leaky roof in the covered porch, laminate floor repairs, roof inspection, glass window replacement, porch door replacement, and new carpeting replacement. Gasper Pumila managed to handle these repairs either himself or arrange to have other co contractors come in and repair or replace. We are very satisfied with Mr. Pumila's service and would recommend him to other homeowners. David & Tammy Guzzardi Montz, Louisiana

Not only is Cody is an exceptional carpenter but he is a pleasure to work with! He always arrives with a smile on his face and with an eagerness to get the job done. Cody is knowledgeable, hardworking, trustworthy and reliable. He works hard to accommodate our busy schedule, even working weekends and coming in on short notice. We have trusted him with numerous jobs, big and small, including rebuilding our chimney, laying flooring, brick work, interior painting, building a deck, and small repairs. I cannot recommend him enough!!!

Tony and his team were asked to build an affordable, low maintenance deck for our backyard. And they did just that. We had an existing deck that needed to be demoed and a new one put its place. Tony gave us options on decking, lighting, concrete, etc as were deciding what we needed. We ended up on composite, but the cheaper options so we were not spending an arm and leg on the deck. He was communicating with us through out the project and did a good job on the timeline despite all the rain. We would use Tony again for future projects.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

    Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
