When I was searching for a personal trainer in my area I discovered Craig. I am pleased to say that after just a few days working with him he showed me his dedication and thrive to be my personal trainer. I’ve noticed immediate results and he is very good about challenging you to beat your current best records. After three months, I noticed upper body strength for the first time in my life (I have never been able to do push ups before now). And his attention to my formerly fractured arm he helped get me past it (I now have range of motion I haven’t had in years). He checks up on you after doctor’s appointments to find out their advice so that he can change your workout to be safe accordingly. He listens to you when you tell him something doesn’t feel right, hurts, or is stressing; and he changes the game plan while still achieving the end goal. He is a hard working trainer that knows how to push you hard, but not over the edge. Incredible, trainer, coach, and human being. He has three characteristics that make him the best personal trainer. They are knowledge, attitude and character. Regarding Knowledge: Craig takes the time to assess your strengths and weaknesses. He’s an expert in how the body works, so the exercises he has me do always make sense for my goals. We’re always doing something different. You will see results and you won’t be disappointed. But the awesome part is he keeps you motivated. He believes in you when you don’t think you can and he let’s you know it. He handles everything you throw at him with incredible grace and optimism. ( I know because I’ve thrown it all, from injured shoulder, knee, foot, abdomen, and pulled muscles). He just doesn’t give up on you. And his optimistic daily notes help keep you focused on the goal. Craig’s attitude and energy are similarly fantastic. It’s contagious. He has a motivating effect which is exactly what you want in a trainer. Craig also knows the right things to say to keep you moving and trying your hardest. It is positive reinforcement at its best. The result is a workout with a far higher out put than you could get on your own. Craig inside (character) is a solid as his outside. He believes that each of us have limitless potential. This too is motivating, and up-lifting. It makes for great coaching. Contrast that to some trainers/coaches/managers, etc. Who try to motivate by breaking you down. Craig is the opposite of that. Bonus: Craig keeps in regular contact between sessions with texts/emails or phone calls to keep you motivated and on track. He is constantly reminding me to combine my diet with my workout. As he says, you cannot out exercise a bad diet. And he genuinely tries to follow up and make sure you are making good choices at meal times. Finally, If you are looking to invest in your good health, look no further than Craig. I’ve never exercised harder, but he makes each workout unique. Not only is he a great trainer, he’s an even better person. I’m PROUD to say, I’ve lost 30 pounds with Craig’s professional training and compassionate support and I live a much healthier life style. Thank You Craig, Nadine Colley

I have truly had a wonderful experience having Darren as my personal trainer. I came to Darren after not getting any results with a previous trainer. I had been with my previous trainer for 5 months working out 45min to an hour twice a week for $150. I saw absolutely no results! I finally decided to try training with Darren and he offered high quality UNLIMITED training sessions for the same price! Let me repeat that.... high quality UNLIMITED training sessions!!! I highly doubt you will find that anywhere else. On top of that, I started seeing results in just 30 days! I love the fact that every session I have with Darren includes new workouts, and he pays very close attention to the physical goals I have in mind. I will eventually have to leave the city for work, but one of the things I will miss most is the Authentic Strength & Performance Institute. I wish that somehow I could just pack him up and take him with me wherever I go because then I know I will be getting the high quality workouts I need! I have been raving about the Authentic Strength & Performance Institute since I've started, and I would strongly recommend this facility to everyone! Young, old, in shape, or not! He tailors all of his workouts specifically to his clients, and that is something I truly enjoy. Try it out!

Have been seeing Drew for personal training for over a year. My strength, endurance and physique have increased/improved significantly, contributing to a better quality of life. Drew knows his stuff; sessions can resemble a science class as Drew explains how the body and nutrients work.

I gained a bit of weight during my marriage and upon separating from my spouse I needed a kick start and so I looked up fitness coaches in New Orleans. These guys were the second company I worked with and with whom I still train and plan my nutrition. My confidence and self esteem are sky high and given the value I receive in life coaching and fitness I see myself working with them for life.

I hired Pam as a personal trainer. The experience was exactly what I was looking for. Something low key, personal and private. Pam is extremely knowledgable with exercise as well as nutrition. She was kind enough to give me a copy of her book that she wrote on maintaining weight loss after bariatric surgery. Both my sessions with her as well as the book were exactly what I needed to stay motivated. I looked forward to my workout sessions with her. She is a wonderful trainer and a beautiful person all around.

Kysha worked as the facilitator of our Welcome Table NOLA group was the key to our success. She was always prepared, always started by centering us and explaining the agenda, and always kept the energy level of the meeting up. She kept a dozen strong-willed individuals on message, on deadline, and working together. She was relentlessly upbeat and drove us to get the most out of ourselves. I left every meeting with Kysha energized and ready for more. As the "financials" person in our group, I appreciated the time Kysha spent with me finalizing the books. She was available when I needed her, and gave me all her attention. I'm looking for opportunities to get Kysha involved in other projects -- I know if I can get her onboard success will follow.

Through the guidance of my coach and her unwaivering support, I have changed my life. I am healthier and happier. And most significantly, I feel powerful. I am in control of my health. In five months, I lost 50 pounds. And, most importantly, it is going to stay off because my coach provided me the tools to be successful.

      About

Zig Ziglar once said, "You can have everything in life you want if you will just help other people get what they want." I truly believe that, and it is the foundation of my coaching practice. I provide business, career, and life coaching to clients from all walks of life and in all stages of their careers. I specialize in coaching individuals who are experiencing a major transition. This includes making the shift from graduate school to full-time employment, tackling new responsibilities that come with a promotion, or changing careers; however, I welcome any client who needs clarity and direction to realize a successful future. I take a comprehensive, whole-person approach to coaching that will allow you to achieve your full potential. My approach to coaching is based on trust, encouragement, and empowerment. For the coach-client relationship to be successful, the process must be collaborative and empowering. I truly believe that each individual is unique, and he or she holds the key to success. My role is to help shine a light on the path to get there. As a coach, it is my job to help you uncover and understand your true motivations, evaluate your strengths, and acknowledge your weaknesses. Armed with this information, we will clarify and refine your goals and create an action plan to achieve them. I typically accomplish this through one-on-one conversations, various assessments, and other methods depending on your specific situation. As the relationship progresses, we will review your goals to ensure you are making progress and refine them as necessary. The end goal of our working relationship is to empower you to continue learning and growing well after the coach-client relationship is over. I am solutions oriented, eternally optimistic, and a champion of people and their abilities. I genuinely believe that individuals are only inhibited by the restrictions they put on themselves. I hope to help you see beyond the old paradigms and beliefs that may have stifled your potential. My goal is to help you discover your true goals and help you make a plan to achieve them.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

      What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.

      Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.
