I hired Mr. Rodrick and his crew to repair termite damage in my kitchen and several repairs outside. He was very thorough, neat and always there when promised. He was able to squeeze me in during the holidays when I had time off. They replaced rotten soffit and facia boards around my house, cleaned and repaired my gutters, repainted all of it, and added some columns on my carport. As it turned out, the damage from the termites was much worse than we thought. The entire wall had to be ripped out, window re-framed, cabinet taken down, new sheetrock and painting. I spent more money than I wanted, but we couldn't see the damage without opening the wall. For all the work they did, the price was right. I would definitely re-hire this company for any future work needed.

David and Josh completed our cabinet install and did a beautiful job. They were fast and professional and even though the cabinet manufacturer messed up our order- David was still able to work it out. We have hired him on to complete a complete renovation and create a laundry room and third bedroom as well as a new entrance. David will be our go to person for all home renovations going forward

I had an old garage that had a rotten roof and was slanty and unstable. Mark and his family racked the slanty wall straight, replaced all the bad wood and rebuilt the roof. The wall is now straight and sturdy. They knew exactly what needed to be done and did everything properly and promptly. They were a pleasure to work with and gave me some tips on some other projects I had going and even let me use a few of their tools. I would definitely recommend them for any home repair and renovation. I will use them again.

Garcia Remodeling Construction are punctual, diligent, and extremely thorough. We have an old 100 year old shotgun home and every single one of our windows leaked when it rained, letting water into the walls and creating horrendous mold inside and outside of the walls. Erix inspected all our windows and understood the problems immediately. Within a week he provided an estimate and we scheduled a start date for the project, which included fixing and sealing the windows and opening up our walls to remove and replace all the damaged wood and insulation. Erix and his colleagues took great care throughout the project, including moving and covering all our belongings to limit dust from the work. Most impressive is one would never know that our walls had to be cut open and replaced around the windows. They did an impeccable job spackling, painting, etc. We have peace of mind now, whenever it rains, that our house is completely sealed from the elements, and that we don't have to worry about mold any longer. I highly recommend Garcia Remodeling.

Larry did a really great job on my house. He painted the entire house, including the ceilings. He painted my bathroom cabinets and my utility cabinets. They were dark wood and now they are a creamy white. He removed a part of the backsplash I didn't care for and added more to it and you can't even tell it was worked on! He put up an accent wall of wallpaper in one room and it looks fantastic! He also repaired several small issues around the house that needed to get done. I would recommend him for sure!

Mr. Harris did a great job helping me make two shelves out of one. Even though what I needed was very simple, he was extremely professional and went above and beyond to make sure it was done in the best way possible. I had the chance to see his workshop and many of the wood pieces he makes (shelves, furniture, swings, you name it!), and I was very impressed! I am keeping his contact information and would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a great carpenter/"wood artist". He is very professional and, what is even better, passionate about his work. Thank you, Mr. Harris!

I contacted a couple of cabinetry companies in the New Orleans area early this fall (20150 to obtain estimates for the building of a set of floor-to-ceiling book shelves and cabinets. Southern Cabinetry was the only one that was able to provide me with a detailed set of drawings of what they could do for me. We discussed wood types, hardware, finishes, moldings, shelf spacing and a number of other matters that were important to me. I worked with John and Myra on the estimate, which was quite reasonable, and the schedule for the installation. Communication with Southern was always clear and their replies to my calls were always prompt. (In my experience, clear communication is always one of the weakest areas of the contracting industry, and Southern, I am happy to say, is a very welcome exception.) John and his one-man crew, also a John, arrived when they said they would and put up the unit in two days. The finished product was more than I could have hoped for, and I immediately asked if they could do another job for me. I highly recommend this company and their work. They are great.

After a leak in my small master bathroom, I decided to expand it which would include a custom built shower, new ceramic tile, cabinets, a new countertop and expanding the room 15 feet. Robert helped me with the design and spent hours with me at the flooring store. The shower he built is incredible! I was worried about the new floor to ceiling cabinet wouldn't fit but Robert kept reassuring me it would. Amazingly he installed it without any issue. My bathroom is now twice as big as it was before and beautiful. I have used him for other renovation projects and will continue to use him. And I can't forget to mention his prices. He is worth a whole lot more than he charges. Very fair prices. My husband and I are convinced he can fix or renovate anything, and do it well.

Glen is still working on my project but so far I couldn't be happier. He was hired to remove ceramic tiles from 3 rooms and then install porcelain wood-look tiles in the same 3 rooms. I find Glen to be a very conscientious worker. He makes sure his work is done right and cleans up when his day is done. Since this was such a large project he has been at my home for about a week and when I get home from work there has never been a big mess. I would definitely recommend Glen to anyone needing things done around their house and actually already have. Since job is not yet complete I don't have pictures to post but will try to add some later.

Geppetto’s Workshoppe has been excellent to work with and done an outstanding! I needed a contractor to frame in and screen my porch. They replied promptly when I contacted them and we were able to meet the next morning. They discussed options with me to achieve my vision what I wanted and made very professional recommendations, many of which I had not previously considered. They were able to begin work that day, presenting me with both a detailed drawing of the construction and a materials list. (They even pressure washed my front porch for me even though that wasn’t on the list of things to do.) The next day we were able to purchase materials and they had most of the framing work done that day and finished the next. Per the formal contract that we signed, they will come back when the pressure-treated wood is ready and will paint the porch and install doors and screening. I’m sure that it will be awesome. I couldn’t be more pleased with their work! What a pleasant surprise to find two guys who are so professional and easy to work with. Their fees were very reasonable and quite a deal given the quality of their work. I can’t recommend them enough!

Saul does exceptional work. He is meticulous, clean and detail-oriented. I hired Saul to help renovate a house. He skillfully handled everything from installing an outside fence, to laying down engineered hardwood floors to installing an automatic dog door in a wall for pet access to the backyard. He installed baseboard and crown molding. I also had Saul paint the entire house including the kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities. I was very pleased with the results and would not hesitate hiring Saul again for future work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
