Andrew did a great job removing a small wall from my house which involved cutting out a portion of drywall through a few metal studs - with some problem-solving along the way.

Minor drywall repair in the bathroom with repainting. Also repainted all our radiator covers. Came out the following day and gave us an estimate and worked on a Saturday! Completed the job the following Monday and it looks amazing. He was very professional and worked around our 2 toddlers and was reasonably priced.

Don and his team were great! They did everything possible to address all of our needs, were fast and thorough in the drywall and plastering process. A bit more time needed to be spent in preparing the areas of the house to be worked on, but all in all we are very satisfied with the quality of the end product. Thank you!

Best person to work with. In addition to the dishwasher install, had to install a new garbage disposal with wiring, install whole house water filter, instal faucets for slop sink and a bathroom.. he was very kind and took care of everything the same day. very professional and top notch work quality.. some leaks came up next day, Ernie was very professional, came back and fixed everything. Very reasonable price for all these.. Highly recommend and definitely will come back for all my future plumbing needs..

Edwin contacted me shortly after posting my need. He came to my house, discussed the project and he provided a written estimate. In spite of my "adding to the work" as I found other things that needed to be addressed, Edwin adapted and made no attempt to "milk me". He was conscientious and detailed. I would definitely hire him again, if the need arises!

Mr. DeOliveira was very professional. He gave me a quote and stuck to it. He showed up on time and did a great job installing s cement pad in the front of my house. He came back the next day and finished the work. Finally he had to come back a week later and repair the job after a truck backed into the house and damaged the concrete. Mr. DeOliveira came right out promptly and fixed the damaged pad at no charge. I would highly recommend DeOliveira Construction. Tom Steeves, Bellingham, MA

We contacted Northeast Construction first based solely on the very professional email they sent. They were also the first to come look at the job, had the estimate to us the next day. Not the cheapest price but after speaking with Brandon I was sold on their experience. Three guys came out to our house, two worked the Sheetrock and one on the cabinet. Everything was covered and throughly cleaned over the couple days that they were there. The work was great, cabinet is perfect, couldn't ask for any thing better or different. Brandon came out to look everything over once the job was done.

Wow, where to start... He did an amazing job! Punctual, polite and excellent workmanship. Nothing much more you could ask for. He really knows plaster and the walls are so straight you could take a straightedge to them and have no gap. He also repaired some broken drywall for us and cleaned up the entire space including the floor paper to not dirty our carpet. We will certainly be hiring Grenal for all our future plastering/drywall work!

Joseph Drywall is the most professional, courteous and helpful service ever. I left a 'follow up' review that was impulsive and negative and I regret this. Because Thumbtack does not remove reviews that were done in haste and without proper thought, I am writing this to undo my damage. Joseph Drywall is the BEST!

Jim did a great job installing our kitchen backsplash glass tile. He showed up the same day to give me a quote and was able to schedule this project within days. He was prompt, professional, and left the kitchen as he found it. Appreciated items such as putting down drop clothes, etc to protect the floors and counters. While he was at our house we had him fix a hole in the drywall which turned out very nice. Would definitely hire him again.

Our bathroom was long overdue for re-painting. As you can see in the "before" picture, we had a lot of peeling paint that needed to be removed before we got to anything else. Erik was able to complete the job in two days, and our bathroom looks phenomenal! The first day, he scraped the loose paint from the ceiling and walls, primed and sealed everything, and then applied 3 coats of plaster to bring it back to a smooth surface. The next day he primed and painted the ceiling, walls, and door, and cleaned up any plaster residue. I'd highly recommend him for any painting!

Drywall installation I was very happy to work with John through our drywall installation project. Though our job was small and some companies were not willing to consider us, he responded very quickly and treated us as though our project was just as valuable as any large job. He was able to pick up the project on short notice due to our timeframe, thoroughly researched just what we were looking for before starting, including many questions we would not have known to ask, and was both very professional but also flexible and easy to work with. He started and finished on time and on budget, did exactly what we asked, helped guide us on the decisions we were unsure of and never pressured us for more than we wanted. We were very satisfied with the quality of the result, which looked great. John was very up front with his pricing, which was extremely competitive, and did many small extras, without passing the cost onto us. We were very happy to work with him and would recommend Sprucecon to others.

Super fast response, got my building project (putting up Drywall) installed within 24 hours after getting a response. Mike was also very open to alternative payment issues and I was able to get everything settled remotely. I would work with him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
