Kristin is wonderful with dogs and truly understands how to motivate them and communicate with them. She also offers great training both written and by example for us humans too!! We also used Kristin as an overnight pet sitter for our 2 dogs and 2 cats while we took a family vacation for 9 days!! It was a relief to have someone here with them who kept to their daily routine and treated them like her own. She kept us updated with pictures and videos!! Highly recommend her services and we are absolutely going to hire her again!!

Kathy did an amazing job - she is by far the best pet sitter we have ever had the pleasure to work with. I was a little nervous because we had just had a negative experience with a previous (unrelated) pet sitter at Christmas (she skipped some days and we came home to massive messes and a very sick cat), but Kathy was so the complete opposite of this previous sitter. She had no problem following specific instructions, despite some lengthy food/pill regimens, and she even texted pictures daily. She was only a text away and always responded promptly. She came daily for a week while we went on vacation, and gave meds and special food/supplement "concoction" to our elderly female cat, and made sure our younger male cat was happy too. Our cats were happy and healthy when we returned, and I KNOW we will be using her in the future!

I would highly recommend Deborah for pet sitting services. You can tell she loves her job and her furry clients. Deborah took such great care of my dog Dixie and my friends dog Murphy while we vacationed for a week. I don't think they wanted to come home. They were quite tuckered out upon their return. Thanks Deborah for treating our dogs like they were your own!

Kendra has been watching my dog Cooper for 5 years now. I can't think of enough good things to say about her!! It is such a relief to go on vacation and have her stay at our house. Not only does she give my dog excellent care, somehow my house is cleaner then when I left! On one particular trip as we were leaving my dog had a little cough, a couple of days later it got worse and Kendra took him to the vet, picked up medicine and made sure he was well. When we came home he was back to normal. Kendra is always reliable she has never once cancelled and has actually gone out of her way to help us out on last minute trips or emergencies. Most importantly is how much my dog loves her! I have recommended Kendra to many friends and all have been thrilled with her services.

We've trusted two generations of felines to Pet-Estrian and they have never disappointed our fur persons or the humans who care for the felines' home. The cats are exercised and groomed in addition to the usual feeding/cleaning. I've recommended them to many...not something I do casually. Try 'em, your pets will thank you.

Being new cat owners, my girlfriend and I were worried about having to find someone to sit our kitty while we were on vacation. All anxiety went away after our first meeting with Gail from Happy Whiskers Pet Sitting service. Gail assured us that she could provide quality care for our cat in the comfort of our home. She certainly delivered on this promise! In addition to the usual cat-sitting tasks performed each visit, she sent us daily messages on how our cat was doing along with pictures. Our cat is quite picky and usually hesitant to interact with strangers, but she warmed up instantly to Gail. My girlfriend and I were able to have a relaxing vacation away from home and came back to a very happy kitty. I'd strongly recommend her to any pet owners!

We are so happy that we found Erica for dog walking services through Thumbtack. She was very quick to get back to us and even came over to meet us in person. She is very knowledgeable about animals as she used to be a vet assistance and she is extremely professional. She is very flexible to work with your needs and she is happy to adjust times and visits per your pet needs. Her prices are great too for the quality service you get! We feel very at ease knowing she is taking goof care of our puppy when we are at work.

Peace of Mind Pet Sitting is owned and operated by Melissa Young. Melissa works as a veterinary technician at a local animal hospital in Barrington, RI. She loves caring for animals daily, and loves being able to provide that care in the comfort of their own homes. Melissa is skilled in the administration of oral medications, injections and subcutaneous fluids. Services provided include pet sitting, house sitting and dog walking in Providence, Cranston, Warwick and Barrington. Peace of Mind Pet Sitting is bonded and insured. References are available upon request. Client testimonial: "I am pleased to recommend Melissa Young. She is really one of most dependable and pleasant pet-sitters we have ever had. She absolutely loved our two dogs and they loved her. She was always very prompt and left detailed notes describing the days activities, if we did not speak first. She was so easy to make arrangements with on the phone and was very willing to provide updates by phone or email during longer trips. I felt confident that she would be responsible when it came time to administer medication when our dogs were on antibiotics. And she really left our house neater than she found it. She is so responsible and kind that the only negative I can report is that we were very sad when she moved away from Boston to live in Rhode Island! But our loss is your gain." Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

      • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
      • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
        • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
        • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
        • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
      • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
        • Horse training: $20 per session.
        • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
        • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
        • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

      What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
