After researching prices and methods of various pest control companies, I found A and J to be the best value for the quality of service they offered. The first inspection went well, and there are now poison bait traps in key areas and copper mesh in the potential mouse holes around the apt. He'll be back in 2 weeks to see what else needs to be done.

I was not charged a dime for a second visit and I will not hesitate to call Reliant Pest Management for any pest control issues.

A&D Professional Pest Elimination has been wonderful from the start. Speaking to Mike Marshall via thumbtack messages and over the phone has been so helpful with all of the information needed, setting up an inspection and just feeling at ease as to what is going on with our situation. He has been so accommodating with not only setting up the inspection as soon as he could, but also setting up our treatment as soon as possible as well which was a must for us. Tim, who did our inspection, was great as well. He was very professional, informative and thorough in inspecting which made me feel a lot better. He walked me through everything and answered all of my questions. Our first treatment hasn't happened yet, it is tomorrow 7/16, but I trust that this review will stay the same throughout all 3 treatments. A&D is very professional, trustworthy and is the ONLY pest control company I spoke to this week that GUARANTEES their work and won't stop until their job is done and 100% successful. They stand behind their work. Which is what we were looking for. We don't want to have to call another pest control company to come back 6 months later to do another treatment. We want this gone for good. Thank you so much to Mike, Tim and everyone at A&D Pest Control for everything and for making sure our home is in good hands. We appreciate it and will recommend you to anyone!

The technician showed up on time, was very helpful in making me aware of the different products he was using, and was also great working around my two cats and niece. He just conducted his last inspection after he treated for bedbugs, and its been three weeks and I think its safe to say they're all gone. He also gave me a great deal on his pest preventative services which I didn't hesitate signing up for because of my proximity to a landfill, there's a lot of rodents and other critters that come to my property.

Ryan was extremely responsive and totally professional. We had an opossum living in the back of our shed and rats living under our shed!! Ryan came over the next day when we heard the opossum hiss at my wife when she was in the shed. The rat bait that he set in the shed is completely out of the way and Ryan assured us that our dog would be safe (even if he were to eat one of the dead rats). The products he uses really are safe for nature. 😊 He also performed a spray on the property for wasps, ants, etc. and provided us with 1-year protection because we are new to our home. I would highly recommend Safer Nature to anyone looking to hire a pest control service in the Amesbury area!

We had two highly active and dangerous yellow jacket nests within ten feet of each other. The nests were located at the main entrance to our home making it very dangerous to be in the area. Through Thumbtack, I sought the services of a pest control proffessional. Within an hour I recieved a message/response from "Tyler" at Safety Fumigant Co. They were able to dispatch someome to our home within three hours. Problem solved. What a relief! Thank you Safety Fumigant.

I always interview three companies. The first two were terrible. Flynn is the best around. Brendan did a thorough investigation leaving nothing to guess. Flynn concluded we did NOT have bedbugs and we don't. I could have paid $4,000 to the other companies for nothing!!! Makes me furious to think about it. One told me the bug sample I showed him was a bedbug. It was a wood roach and two seeds from a bagel. Unreal! I highly recommend Flynn Pest Control for all your pest problems. Thank you Flynn Pest Control!

After having a bat in our house we went to Thumbtack to find a pest control expert. They contacted me within 24 hours, and showed up to my house the day later. They thoroughly inspected the home for bat colonies, and found none. They were insightful and offered suggestions as to how the bat could have entered the home. They showed up within their 2 hour window as we agreed. There is nothing they could have done better, hence the 5 star rating. If I have a problem with rodents or pests in the future I will be going back to them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.
