A C Landscaping was hired to remove snow from my driveway sidewalk and walkways during the 2 storms we had in February of 2017 in Belmont. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they performed in a highly professional manner as evidenced by their removing all the snow. I believe that the Owner has a very strong work ethic and is very responsive to customer needs. I definitely intend to use them again in the future as the need arises. Brendan V. I'm very impressed with Stephen's quality of work. He replaced my field stone concrete steps with big slabs of granite and also tore up my walk way to install some new beautiful cambridge pavers. It didn't end there, he also ran sleeves for my outdoor powerline and irrigation system since those lines ran under my previous walkway. His pricing was very good and I plan to hire him again for future projects. I also get compliments all the time now from my neighbors when they pass by my brand new walkway :).

I hired Dan tonight to plow my driveway and clear the walkway and steps following the storm. He responded to my quote request on Thumbtack within minutes. I was stuck at work all evening and was unable to shovel. He promptly arrived at my house and called me at work with a quote. Very grateful to come home to a clear driveway and entryway, and glad I didn't have to start shoveling at 11pm! Dan was efficient and friendly, and I will absolutely be calling him again. THANK YOU, DAN!

From the first day you meet him you can tell he is a man of his words and is very knowledgeable about his profession. His work is well thought out and the final product shows it. I received three quote's, MFS was very competitive. With their experience, previous work, recommendations and website, I felt comfortable hiring them for my 500 sq ft paver patio. Mark and his crew did an outstanding job start to finish. I asked for something unique in the design and his crew delivered with beautiful curves to enhance the look, this is time consuming and takes a talented eye, it looks great! The finished product looks awesome, on time, on budget. Professional landscaping at its best! Thanks Mark and crew, great job!

We hired Eddy for the job to replace old multicolor stone pavers for the walkway. The project was not without a setback, and some steps were needed to get redone to achieve the best results. However, Eddy has done a quality work and a consistent & great effort to complete the job as both of us agreed. The progress of the work has actually proven his excellent professional mind and trustable behavior. I thank him for completing the work and working hard consistently. I highly recommend him for any types of masonry jobs.

My husband and I have been home-owners for more than 35 years. This summer, Desire Construction cleaned up our backyard, extended our patio with pavers, and fixed a drain pipe. This was hands-down the best experience with a home contractor that we have ever had. Mr. Guimaraes responded promptly to our request for a quote. We had to wait several weeks while his company completed other jobs, but Mr. Guimaraes contacted us in advance of their start date. He came when he said he would, and his group worked hard and completed the job in a timely manner. We are very pleased with the results and would definitely hire him again.

Overall was very satisfied. The price was good value for a large replacement patio and fence. Bruno and his crew were all very friendly and responsive to trying to address my concerns. My yard presented challenges due to pitch of yard and some stump removal. They worked hard to make it work. Took longer then I expected but some delays were unavoidable due to weather and paving company not providing the right color mixture of pavers. And I was not in a hurry anyway. Bruno always got back to me on my questions and issues. Felt they were hard working and very honest.

Installation of new 4x50 ft walkway and 30 feet of new stone wall. Included tear down of existing wall and walkway. Raphael and Jose were extremely professional, courteous, responsive and hard working throughout the entire job. They were flexible and worked with our selection of pavers (Unilock) and recommended the use of Nevada Stone for the facing of the wall which is beautiful. They were also responsive when I pointed out a couple of follow up areas when the job was complete. Overall, we are pleased with their work and would use them again.

Alex, Steven, and Leron (sorry if I spelled it wrong) were terrific. They did all the work Alex and I had discussed and went beyond to ensure our dodgy cracking driveway /parking lot lasted a few years longer. The guys even took out some extra asphalt that had been dumped on my lawn years ago and had just been left there. We're grateful for their help and appreciate them doing the job in a timely manner and for a reasonable cost. Thank you.

I've been working with James @Triple J for about five years. He's done everything from masonry work repairing my foundation and chimney to yard clean-ups. The most recent work he's done for me have been major yard renovations starting with a new front walkway in brick pavers (herringbone pattern which he suggested) which was completed in the fall of 2017. During his work on this project he also removed the weeds and turn at the end of my driveway and replaced it with pea stone. This August, he stripped the crabgrass and top layer of my lawn and replaced it with sod. He cleaned up each garden bed, moved plants around for better flow, used a large stone found in my yard as a focal point in the front, mulched each bed, and finally, put up a new stockade fence we lost during the 2018 Noreaster. James is always on time for quotes and meetings, communicates often, provides ideas and solutions, and he and his crew are great to work with when they're on site. Anytime I need something done, I check with James first.

Goody's has done several things at my house and I've always been very happy with the results! Darren mows the lawn but also put up a 6' fence for me last year (fencing in the back yard) and built a really nice paver patio for me two years ago. He's very responsive and I can always reach him on his cell when I need something. In the winter I usually snowblow my own driveway but during very bad storms I've asked him to plow for me and he's always willing to come by and help! I'd highly recommend Darren and Goody's!

Our driveway looks brand new! The company showed up on time; and carefully prepared the surface before applying the seal coat. They were very responsive to repairing the cracks, neat and very thorough and professsional. The product they use was excellent. We will call them back every years as recommended to reseal our driveway.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.
