Rheana did an amazing job cleaning my apartment! She was accommodating with scheduling, arrived on time, and was extremely thorough in her work. I have 2 very fluffy pets and she left the place sparkling. She also did an interior window cleaning and my windows are so clear right now I'm stunned. I would highly recommend her!

Kathy is wonderful - she went above and beyond my expectations, communicated often about how my dog was doing, and provided loving care, not just pet sitting! We recently relocated and had to go out of town - we were in a new place, and our dog was nervous as it was from the move - he took to Kathy right away. She took care of him for 5 days while we were out of town, and even cleaned up his "nervous" messes. I recommend her very highly. She is very competent, caring, and highly professional.

MacKenzie did a wonderful job. Not only did she care for our cats, but she left everything neat and clean and brought in our mail and packages. She also gave me text updates on how the cats were doing. I’ll definitely be using MacKenzie for all our pet sitting needs.

Yvonne has been a godsend! My husband was on his last nerve with out recently adopted schnoodle. He wouldn't come, stay or listen to almost anything we wanted and to top things off he was a nuisance barker. After our initial evaluation Yvonnne gave us some homework and within a week we saw a huge change with not much effort on our part!! We hired Yvonne for a six week package for a very reasonable price and have had two of our six lessons and I can say that Max is no longer in danger of going back to the rescue group : ) Her methods are very effective and have made a huge change in our lives with our new family member. Anyone having difficulties with their pet should absolutely have Yvonne work with them.

I would highly recommend Deborah for pet sitting services. You can tell she loves her job and her furry clients. Deborah took such great care of my dog Dixie and my friends dog Murphy while we vacationed for a week. I don't think they wanted to come home. They were quite tuckered out upon their return. Thanks Deborah for treating our dogs like they were your own!

I hired Wildflower Pet Care to walk my dog a couple times a week when I am at work. My dog has anxiety issues and can be difficult around new people. But it didn’t take long before she warmed up to both Jade and Lisa and is happily going on walks and adventures with them. They update me after each walk with photos and it looks like my dog is smiling in all of them! They are responsive to any of my questions and always let me know the details of the time the spend with my dog. I would definitely recommend this business and I know when my dog is in their care she is both in good hands and having fun!

I met Diana and Louie back in October 2016 and then very quickly hired them to walk my dog, Chance. So far, they have been absolutely wonderful! Diana is very reliable and I know my dog is in good hands every time she comes to walk him! I also appreciate the daily notes she leaves for me, letting me know how my pet is doing! I am so thankful I found her and Louie! Thank you so much!

I have known Susan Devine for the past 13 years. We worked together for the Brigham and Woman’s Hospital where she was a very dedicated employee. Over the years we became very good friends and a part of our family. Susan’s love of animals was always present. When she rescued her dog, Roxie, 12 years ago, Susan’s devotion for her was very apparent. She is one of the most loving pet owners I have ever known. Susan has taken care of my 2 golden retrievers countless times, along with our fish and hermit crabs. My dogs think of Susan as part of our family. She is beyond reliable and trustworthy. If it wasn’t for Susan, my family and I would not have been able to go on vacation for years. One of my dogs is aggressive, with other dogs, Susan would go out of her way to be able for him to still get the walks he needs while taking care of the other pets.

I was lucky to have Allyson's help with my older dog. She was understanding, trustworthy, and was a great comfort to me knowing that my golden retriever was with a dog lover. Allyson was great. Anyone would be fortunate to find such a person if you need help with your pet.

Being new cat owners, my girlfriend and I were worried about having to find someone to sit our kitty while we were on vacation. All anxiety went away after our first meeting with Gail from Happy Whiskers Pet Sitting service. Gail assured us that she could provide quality care for our cat in the comfort of our home. She certainly delivered on this promise! In addition to the usual cat-sitting tasks performed each visit, she sent us daily messages on how our cat was doing along with pictures. Our cat is quite picky and usually hesitant to interact with strangers, but she warmed up instantly to Gail. My girlfriend and I were able to have a relaxing vacation away from home and came back to a very happy kitty. I'd strongly recommend her to any pet owners!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

      • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
      • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
      • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
      • What are your different walk routes?
      • When will you pick up and drop off?
      • How will we communicate?
      • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
      • What’s your cancellation policy?
      • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
      • How and how often do I pay you?
      • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

      • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
      • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
        • 45-minute visit: $28.
        • 60-minute visit: $32.
      • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
      • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
        • 12 hours: $100.
        • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
