Dog walking service has been a great experience! Meeting with the owner was professional and thorough. He explained everything and answered all my questions. My dog walker sends a text and a photo to me everyday giving a report about her time with my puppy. That is such a wonderful part of the experience. I look forward to it everyday! I regret that I need to leave my puppy alone while I am at work and the report everyday puts my mind at ease. Also, a written note is left everyday as well. These little touches make this a very special and personal service. I highly recommend Blackstone Valley Dog Walking and Pet Sitting. They go above and beyond caring for pets as if they were there own.

We hired Wesley & Melissa to cat sit for 9 days. They visited everyday and as requested spent some quality time with our cat, even playing with her laser toy and brushing her. They sent photos and/or video everyday. Shadow was very happy and well when we got home. Also it was great to come home to a house with a clean litter box! We will hire them again!

Stephanie fed our cat, scooped his litter box, and sent us pictures. She gave him a clean food bowl at our request and even took the initiative to hand wash the old food bowl. We were very impressed and feel like we got a lot of value for our money! We would definitely use Stephanie's Sitting again and would recommend it to any cat owners in the area.

MacKenzie did a wonderful job. Not only did she care for our cats, but she left everything neat and clean and brought in our mail and packages. She also gave me text updates on how the cats were doing. I’ll definitely be using MacKenzie for all our pet sitting needs.

Tracey did a fantastic job taking care of our two cats while we were gone for approximately 10 days. These cats are very near and dear to my wife and I, so we wanted to make sure and choose the right person to take care of them, and Tracey fit the bill. Highly recommended for cat owners!

We hired Robin as our trainer for two shelter dogs (4yo and 5yo) both have not had the best of beginnings, so training on our own was impossible. Robin knows exactly what to do, she has great suggestions, she is a great teacher to us humans and she has the best tone and connection with Daisy and Bella! They really like her and are happy to see her when she pulls up to the house! We are looking forward to more sessions with her!

I needed someone to stay at our home for a few days to take care if our animals; we have cats and dogs. They needed no special/medical attention but there is a routine here and I just wanted someone around. Kathy was excellent! All of the furkids loved her and she was very aware of their schedules. Kathy would send me pictures daily. Kathy brought her own food, even though I offered to purchase her likes, and she even brought her own bed sheets and towels, even though they were not needed. I felt safe with her having the keys to our home and the house alarm. I would recommend her with nothing but praise and I will be using Kathy's services again.

Emily has been taking care of our "baby" Belle for the past few years. There is nothing better than going on vacation and feeling so comfortable that our home and our pets are well taken care of. She takes such good care of Belle, and I think Belle is sad when its us coming through the door and not Emily. She spoils them and the house is as clean as I left it. I highly recommend Emily to everyone and anyone that loves their pets and doesn't want to put them in a kennel while you vacation!

Patty, was a great lady very affectionate to dogs which takes on her hikes for exercise. She keeps her house very clean. She will accommodate for older dogs that can't walk too far by using a cart or stroller.

We hired Stephen to do a number of things around the house. He was so good we had him do projects. Each time we confronted him with a new project he took it on like a pro and was never able NOT to do the job. He was quick, efficient, neat. He did things from building patios, to fixing electrical, replacing wood, windows and so on and so on. He has since moved out of our area recently and we are so sad we cannot call him. You are lucky if you need a handyman and he lives near you. Prices are exceptional too!

I was leaving for Italy in three days and my sister who originally agreed to watch my cat baled on me. Needless to say I was in a panic. I contacted Sue and she put me at ease right away. Came by that night to meet my cat and get a layout of my place. She provided references and I provided her with vet info etc. We agreed with her coming by twice a week and her sitting with the cat for about 30 minutes changing the litter etc I felt immediately comfortable and sensed my cat would be in good hands and she was. While in Italy Sue sent me periodic emails letting me know that all was well. I arrived home to a well adjusted cat .She even brought my mail in for me! I would definitely use Sue again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

  • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
  • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
  • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
