I cannot say enough of good things about Ione. We had her at couple of events, including wedding and baby shower. She is not only talented DJ, face painter and entertainer but also a great person to work with. She came up with list of songs for our wedding day and later helped us with karaoke to entertain guests who stayed late with us. At baby shower she helped us with decorations, balloons and face painting, that made shower more fun. Ione is very reliable, honest and easy to communicate. We are hope she would be available for our future parties.

Hi Mark, Ben and I would like to say thank you so much for being our wedding DJ! You were great and you have no idea how much we appreciate it. You knew exactly what to play to get people dancing and got the crowd's attention for us when we needed it. Thank you so much, you were outstanding and I will recommend you to anyone I know in the future who may be looking for a wedding DJ.

Jacob was absolutely fantastic to work with on my wedding! He was always very professional and extremely organized. He also really took into account the types of music my (now) husband and I like and was able to make the evening very cohesive. We were very impressed by his ability to help coordinate all the activities in the wedding (toasts, first dance, father-daughter dance, cake cutting, etc) and how much he helped us think through the reception prior to our wedding. Jacob was a fantastic MC and truly made our wedding reception unforgettable! I would recommend him 100% for your wedding or event!

We first met Bob when he photographed our wedding, 16 1/2 years ago! He did a fantastic job then - especially great at candid photos, and made everyone feel comfortable and at ease. We have many beautiful, artistic shots from that day. We had an outdoor ceremony, and indoor reception, and he was comfortable with both settings…even shots on the beach. When looking for someone to take some photos at our older son's Bar Mitzvah, I thought immediately of Bob and tracked him down! He took photos of that day for us, too. Always very professional, great at what he does, and especially great at getting in the "action" and getting that shot. We highly recommend him!

I'm an actress and have worked with many different photographers & cinematographers for almost 10 years. Jeremiah was kind enough to take some head shots for my acting resume. He was very receptive to my ideas and was willing to stand/sit in awkward positions to get the shot he wanted. He has a wonderful eye for capturing the personality of whom he is photographing. Jeremiah made me laugh during the photo shoot and was very timely in providing the edited pictures back to me. Jeremiah really is looking for his client's best interests and that's what makes him run a smooth photography business.

Our DJ was very entertaining, and played a very wide variety of music. Overall our wedding was very special. I would hire these guys again in a heartbeat!

We had a great experience with him and we are happy with the pictures. The engagement photoshoot was smooth and he had great ideas for the poses of the photos., we did not have a clue of what to do. During the wedding he was always looking for the opportunity of getting a good photo. We strongly recommend him as your wedding photographer.

Robert was fantastic for our special day! He checked in with us a few times before the wedding to make sure all our details were exactly what we wanted for our wedding. On our wedding night, he also continued to check in to see how the night was going. My guests absolutely loved the music he played, and I did not leave the dance floor the whole night!! Couldn’t ask for a better DJ!

My husband Aaron and I found Jim on Thumbtack.com while looking for photographers for our wedding. Aaron and I had already spent hours over the past weekends looking at photographer websites. We weren't excited about any of them until we stumbled upon Jim. It was the first time we were both enthusiastic about any of the photographers we had found online. We immediately decided to contact Jim. He gave us a great quote for the wedding photography, and it included a special engagement shoot to get to know each other and get some shots taken before the big day. Jim was so flexible in helping us find a place to hold the engagement shoot. We ultimately decided to meet in Portsmouth for a sunset brewery tour and photo shoot. It was amazing! We had such a great time at the shoot, and Jim was so personable. He made what many would consider a stressful occasion such a fun experience. He did a great job at balancing the brewery stops with getting the important shots taken. After the engagement shoot, we were even more confident that we had chosen the right guy for the job. And even more so when he sent the edited photos only a week or so after the shoot. Fast forward to the week of the wedding. Jim was extremely proactive in making sure everything was set for the big day. We were so excited when he told us that he would have a second shooter helping him at the wedding. At the wedding, Jim made sure we captured all of the moments that we hoped for, and so many special moments that we never would have thought of ourselves. He made sure to send us a sampling of the night while we were on our honeymoon, and then delivered the complete set of photos only a few weeks later. It is an understatement to say how happy we were with the photos!! Finally, Jim's website is very convenient to use, and we are able to access and download our photos anytime, in single and bulk downloads. The images are high quality, high resolution jpegs that are large enough that you don't have to worry about pixelation when printing large photos for your friends and family. I can't think of anything else to add except that Jim is amazing and he will take great care in documenting your special day!

Marc was the best wedding photographer ever!! He was easy to talk to, make everything so very smoothly, was able to accommodate what we wanted in our photos while adding her own touch. He was very interactive with my entire family and had them all laughing. By the time we got to the hotel he had sent us some photos to see how they came out and they are so beautiful. Tony was great to work with! We had a small wedding with close friends and family at Boston City Hall, followed by a luncheon after. He helped plan things out in advance, showed up early, had great ideas for photos, and was low-key and relaxing to shoot with. He was also very respectful of us wanting privacy because of an unusual situation, and agreed not to include us in online portfolios. We considered several photographers, and are really glad we went with Tony. I'd definitely recommend him, and we'd certainly work with him again if we have occasion to. Thanks!

First of all it took me forever to book a videographer - my husband and I were back and forth on whether or not we wanted a video for our wedding. Jeremiah was so patient and kind during the emailing back and forth for months!! Looking back now - one of the first things my husband and I said after the wedding was "I cannot wait to see the video" I am so thankful i actually booked his team. Jeremiah's team Hayley and Nicole were amazing, they were so fun to be around, so professional all day and really made us feel comfortable in front of the camera. It is a testament to the videographers for making us feel so calm and comfortable. Also, at the end of the night the activities were running long and at the last minute my husband asked if they could stay an hour longer - and without hesitation they stayed and captured more of my special day. We lucked out finding Jeremiah and his team and I feel lucky to have shared our day with them! I would recommend them to anyone!

Jeremy was so fun to work with! I hired him as a surprise gift to my mom on her wedding day and she just loved him. He was timely and got everything in that we hoped and more. He was very flexible and even stayed a little after the scheduled time so we didn’t miss any good photos too which was really kind. Truly a professional and I would pay for his services again anytime!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
