We had already received a quote from a reputable chimney sweep to repair the lining in our fireplace chimney, when we heard about Larry. A friend of my wife’s had read a rave review about him on her town’s website. So we decided to get a second opinion. We’re glad we did.
While the first proposal involved removing tiles and inserting a liner, Larry carefully assessed the situation and determined that the damaged tiles could be repaired. It certainly helps that he is a mason. He also called our attention to the furnace chimney, which we hadn’t even considered. He pointed out that a liner would be better suited there in order to prevent any furnace gases from leaking into the house.
In the end we got both chimneys overhauled for the same price as we would have paid if we had gone with the original proposal. And they both look fantastic. The fireplace chimney, which is brick, has been re-pointed and has a new cap. The furnace chimney, which had been bare cinderblock, has a new cap and an attractive stucco finish.
We’re delighted with the results and feel that real value has been added to our home. Not only that, but Larry and his assistant Jeremy were great to work with (they even insisted on taking off their boots before stepping into our house). I give them the highest recommendation to anyone looking for skilled chimney professionals.
