Flawless, courteous service from start to finish. Alex sent me a quote instantly, and stayed in touch the whole time. The movers, Divia and Tavas showed up on time, packed the small amount of furniture we had with care, and did a phenomenal job. The price was the best. Highly recommend!

I rated these movers 5 stars only because I couldn’t rate them any higher. These movers did everything right. They were prompt, neat, clean and very professional in their appearance. They were extremely careful with each piece of furniture. They wrapped each piece of furniture with a thick quilted blanket, then wrapped the blanket with tape to make sure the blanket stayed on the furniture throughout it’s journey. They then carefully and strategically placed each piece of furniture in the moving truck. Once the furniture was in place, they lashed down the furniture with webbing to ensure the furniture didn’t move or bounce around in the truck during the travel cycle. Once they reached their destination point, they unwrapped each piece of furniture one at a time and carefully placed them where instructed. My wife and I are extremely pleased and couldn’t ask for better. Oh,…and did I mention they were reasonably priced? It’s a pretty safe bet that if you hire these movers, you’ll be more than satisfied. We can’t say enough about them!

I hired Son Light Movers to do a small move - a dining room table, a coffee table, a chair. They were great. On time. Professional. Courteous. Friendly. And efficient. Would definitely hire them again for small or large moves.

As we all know relocating is always hard but if you can delegate some of that trauma to a professional moving company, it feels a tiny bit better. For our last move it was Step-by-step movers. Their men know exactly how to unload your worries. They are very apt at their job, always showing up on time, packing everything with great precision and loading the valuables securely to their vans. My move was as smooth as it could ever be, thanks to these guys.

Lexel Movers were great! Our move was such an easy and efficient experience. Packing was done the day prior and most of the stuff was ready to go on the actual day of the move. Highly recommend!

Two weeks ago, I hired last minute movers to move all of my stuff from my studio apartment in Kenmore Square to my new one bedroom apartment in Back Bay. I was in desperate need of a service that would box, carry, and move all of my stuff at the 11th hour (another moving company backed out) - I was given excellent service by Calvin, his crew, and Sal. I was stunned to see that the price was actually lower than my original moving company's quote in spite of the last second request! If you need good movers at a good price, call these guys!

Smart Penny Moving is the moving company to trust. I changed my moving date three times and they were accommodating with every change. They were on time and so polite and helpful. The move involved moving some large and heavy items up stairs with a 90 degree turn on the landing and steep steps and they handled it like pros. This was my first time using movers and I will never move without them again. They don't try to take advantage of you and they don't take any shortcuts with your personal items. Everything was carefully wrapped and packed. Also super nice and friendly guys. I will definitely be using this company again.

Due to unforeseen circumstances and ones that were clearly out of the movers realm of rectifying: the move was delayed by several hours. However when they arrived the move went very fast and Alex was very professional and extremely apologetic for the delay. I was also compensated for this said issue. There were three people in total and they worked fast and furious and extremely efficiently. I am extremely satisfied and these movers are highly recommended!

Alex and his partner showed up on time, prepared, and ready to start loading our household items. They had a top notch truck and equipment with plenty of protective gear to insure our things were not damaged. They didn’t scratch or nick anything at either location as well as any of our things. They were very nice and had a great positive attitude. They were very fast and efficient. The price was shockingly affordable. I highly recommend these guys for any move, across town or cross country.

Great service! Everything was like a dream. Moving is never fun, but my move was like a breeze. Very smooth and fast. I have moved several times over the years and have had both good and bad movers. Movers were on the top of the scale - maximum you can get. Fast, careful, efficient and courteous all describe the work of this great group of guys. They were also very efficient and professional, wearing tidy uniforms. I was extremely happy to find every piece of furniture, including antiques, made it to my new home without a scratch. Nothing was damaged or lost! I highly recommend this company.

Kenneth was great! He was on time (even early!). I was nervous about filling a pod to move cross country and he made the move care free and easy. He even sped up the process so the truck could pick up my pod an hour later. Some things were left behind that I had to ship -- but I was grateful to have the pod off the street. I would definitely recommend him.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
