I couldn't be more satisfied with Stephanie as a dog walker. She responded to my last minute request. Spent more time than was expected for walk and play time and sent me pictures every day. She has an affinity for animals and people! I highly recommend her for pet walking/sitting.

Whenever we go away Patte watches our cats. It is so nice to be able to go away and not worry about the pets. Patte loves animals and it is obvious when you see her with our pets. We have an older cat who needs insulin twice a day in addition to needing fluids occasionally which Patte does like a professional. She does not just come in to feed and scoop but also spends quality time with all three of our cats. Patte is not only a professional pet sitter but she also volunteers with animal rescue groups. She is such a kind and loving person and we are so thankful to have her caring for our furry babies.

MacKenzie did a wonderful job. Not only did she care for our cats, but she left everything neat and clean and brought in our mail and packages. She also gave me text updates on how the cats were doing. I’ll definitely be using MacKenzie for all our pet sitting needs.

Kim took care of our elderly dog, until just days before Pebbles passed away. We never worried about anything when Kim was around. She texted updates each day, and would call us if she felt something needed to be discussed further. Kim was a godsend. Anyone would be luck to have her take care of their pet!

Karen is wonderful with my dog! Usually after the initial meet & greet I prefer to be at the first few visits until I know my dog and the pet sitter are comfortable with each other. But my dog took yo Karen immediately and I was able to skip that step very comfortably. My dog fell in love with her instantly, and he is usually a very cautious dog. And as dog lovers know, we can trust their instincts. Karen has been so flexible and goes above & beyond. I'm so grateful I found her!

Emily has been taking care of our "baby" Belle for the past few years. There is nothing better than going on vacation and feeling so comfortable that our home and our pets are well taken care of. She takes such good care of Belle, and I think Belle is sad when its us coming through the door and not Emily. She spoils them and the house is as clean as I left it. I highly recommend Emily to everyone and anyone that loves their pets and doesn't want to put them in a kennel while you vacation!

We have had great experience with Katie and The Wagging Leash. When we leave our dog Lilly in Katie's care we know she is being cared for as if she was Katie's own pet. She is walked & played with and loved! Lilly comes home happy & rested :) I would recommend Katie & The Wagging Leash to anyone who wants their pets taken care of as a member of Katie's family while they are away.

Deb watched my house and my beloved family members when I went to Thailand for 2 weeks!! I have 4 dogs ranging from five pounds to 65 pounds and she can handle them all like a pro! All four of my kids (dogs) love her. I recommend Deb's Doggy Daycare to anyone who is looking for someone to love their family member as they would while they are away. She also maintained my house and ensured everything was in order upon my return. She came to visit my home for a while to meet my dogs before she watched them to ensure they knew who she was before I left on my vacation. I utilize her services multiple times per week. She is awesome and a very friendly and trustworthy individual which is hard to come by these days. Once again, I highly recommend her services for house and pet sitting, she is the best!!!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32.
