The movers from Real Deal Van Lines did a great job! They were very professional, from calling ahead to confirm the time to taking care not to damage our lawn and wiping up dirt from the kitchen floor. They were also friendly and courteous. They did a herculean task of moving a 600+ pound piano up the steps onto the deck and into the house. They worked well together and were very kind to my 4 year old who wanted to help. I recommend them and would use them again.

Geoffery and Jonathan were amazing! I hired them for our internal move. They were responsible for moving things out of our garage and apartment into a truck we rented. They listened to my husband and I as well as offered advice like where to purchase moving blankets and straps. They came prepared with drills in case we needed furniture taken apart and were prepared with different straps to help them move heavy things down three flights of stairs. They worked as quickly and carefully as they could. They were professional and extremely friendly. My husband and I HIGHLY recommend Son Light Movers and are sad we moved out of state and won't be able to use them for our next move!

It was a terribly hot day, and these movers just kept on working. They were polite, thoughtful and did not mind when I asked that we change the location of some furniture. Lindsay had told us the movers would arrive at 8:00 am but called when they were delayed - to get a truck that had better air conditioning. I was delighted that he called, and that these hard-working movers had a comfortable ride back to Springfield. The price was very reasonable for this out-of-state move.

Luis and Abner were fantastic! They were jovial and professional, flexible and quick. Even when they needed to switch trucks, they still managed to only be slightly behind schedule. I used them for a multi state move and would definitely recommend them to anyone moving on a budget.

I want to say thank you to anthony and his crew. My moving company bailed on me 45 mins before they were suppose to come. I went online to look for someone else. Found anthony! He called me back right away. Within a few hours he had his crew out to my apartment to have me moved. They were extremely professional and very down to earth. I was so pleased with the quick repsonse of the phone and man power! Thank you so much Anthony and his employees (I don't remember their names)

My husband and I just moved and I started getting sick right as we were packing. We realized we were going to have to go easy where we could, which meant hiring someone to clean after we had moved out our furniture instead of doing it ourselves. Jim Di'Dio worked with me on every particular: price, space, areas needing special attention or no attention and time. On top of that he was professional and so friendly and outgoing. I 100% recommend their services, you will be well cared for.

Harper and Son's Moving came out last minute when a company I hired on here did not show. I was in panic mode and they really calmed me down and took care of everything. The final price came in under quote and they truly saved me. The owner himself came to help with the job and each of the guys were so polite and didn't complain at all! Thank you guys for saving the day!

They were a pleasure to work with, moving quickly and efficiently. They also tried to problem solve when a piece of furniture wouldn't fit through the door. They figured it out! Would rehire in the future.

Had some snags at the beginning and end of move but overall during the move itself, the two guys were awesome. They really went all out to move my stuff, even loaded my car with the fragile things. Only one minor issue that was resolved to my satisfaction. Would recommend them to others.

Mr Williams provided a complete, professional clean out of my mother's condo. With one assistant and a large truck, every item of furniture, kitchen equipment, linens, clothing and ephemera was moved and loaded in under two hours. The price quoted was fair, and I couldn't be more satisfied.

Jason, the owner, was very responsive. Immediately texted me back to let me know he received my message and because it was 11pm advised he would call the next day to discuss. Jason and team showed up on time and were professional and super friendly. Hourly rate was worth it as they didn’t drag out the process to make more money and placed all the furniture where I wanted it. I highly recommend this company and will use them for future needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
