John is very accommodation and made everything look good under a budget while meeting and exceeding my expectations! The job wasn't easy, he had to repair mistakes made by previous contractors. New sub floors and flooring, trim, cabinets, drywall and repairs, plumbing of the toilet and sinks and vanities. It's a very old apt and nothing is square or even but he made it look fresh and new!

I cannot rave enough about working with David. I found him originally when he responded to an ad that I placed on craigslist. Newly single and having no experience in home maintenance, I was faced with a bunch of projects that I could not handle on my own. He was not only attentive and punctual, he did a phenomenal job. He brought tools, experience and quality that I have yet to see from anyone else. He has now done work on every home I’ve owned since. I referred him to friends. I’ve had him to travel to my vacation home to do work there. I honestly could not recommend him more. He has done everything from simple Faucet replacements to electrical to plumbing to wiring my home theater to tile work to hanging artwork to building bed frames. He is a treasure.

David Clay arrived right on time and after initial analysis of the job to be done, got onto fix the issue. He finished the work soon and showed the completed work to my satisfaction. David was kind enough to return back to my house in 20 minutes to clear out the minor concern I had. I recommend him for any plumbing work to be done, as he is very knowledgeable about the plumbing issues just by looking at them from outside.

I contracted Loja M construction to do a kitchen remodel in my home. They were punctual, very professional, and did the job in a timely matter. They answered any questions I had and they did an amazing job with my kitchen. They put in new counter tops, sink, and backsplash. They also did my kitchen plumbing. AAA Plumbing LLC

I have worked with AAA Plumbing LLC since 2009 as then-Chair of the Board of Trustees of First Ecclesiastical Society of East Haddam, Connecticut/First Church of Christ Congregational in East Haddam. At the time, we had AAA design and install a replacement system for an outdated steam system for the 1794 Meetinghouse. A design criteria is that it needed to be able to be shutdown completely, just like the steam system, as there is no water in the Meetinghouse part of the building. Two Unico System air handlers were added and connected to the newer boiler in the then 7-year old addition that had plenty of capacity to handle it. The solution was perfect and very quiet, although some missed the occasional clanging of the old steam pipes. I have since had service work performed on the Unico System air handler in my 1834 residence. Very pleased with all experiences and are my "go to" HVAC contractor.

Our services include: - Water heaters - Warm air furnaces - Water boilers - Bath remodels - Kitchen remodels - Drain cleaning - Air conditioning - Gas-fired steam oil - Fired steam oil - Fired boilers We install all types of plumbing and do radiant heat and gas conversion. We are a small business, so we can keep the cost down. We are very professional and responsive. There is no such thing as a job too small; we can tackle just about everything.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

    • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
    • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
    • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
    • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
    • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.

How much does it cost to install a hot water heater?

You’ll know when it’s time to install a new water heater. Water heater installation costs average between $360 and $780 nationally, with rates increasing depending on the project. The total project cost will be higher when you include the cost of the heater itself. Select your new water heater based on the number of occupants in your home and the number of gallons of capacity you’ll need. Installation costs can vary based on the type of water heater you are removing and the type you are installing, any necessary repairs, regional cost of labor, and whether disposal of the old heater is included. Natural gas water heaters retail on average between $650 and $900 for standard models. Electric water heaters range between $300 and $700 for standard models. Tankless electric water heaters retail on average between $250 and $700 for standard models. Tankless gas water heaters retail on average between $200 and $1,300.

A company may charge approximately $1,000 to replace a 50-gallon tank-style electric water heater (not including any upgrades required by building codes). Replacing a gas-powered water heater might cost $1,100 (not including code upgrades). Some companies roll the disposal of an old heater into the overall cost of the new water heater installation. Other professionals charge an additional removal fee that can range from $35 to $150.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

    • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
    • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
    • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
