Paulo did a project to open up the wall in rear of my kitchen and install a doorway in a loadbearing wall, providing access to the back door. The entire experience with Paulo was professional, painless and a pleasure from start to finish. Paulo is super organized, always reasonable and he's a really great guy to work with. He was my first Thumbtack reference, and I went out of the way to check the references he provided. Everyone I spoke with had nothing but praise for the work he did for them. I needed a permit for the project, and he was one of the few contractors I spoke with who, when I asked about it, explained to me what I needed to do, rather than trying to talk me out of it. Paulo was a pleasure to work with. He was very professional and responsive. We just bought the house about a month ago so it needed quick remodels before moving in. It was our first time having to hire a contractor and Paulo made the experience much less stressful than I thought it would be. He worked quickly on our kitchen and floors and they look great. It shows that he has lots of experience and offers honest advice. We would be delighted to hire his team again for future projects.

Paulo was the perfect man for our basement renovation project. We liked him from the moment we first met him when he came to our house to give his estimate. Paulo came across very knowledgeable - but not boisterous -, friendly and professional. He gave us a quote that was not the lowest and not the highest, but explained us in detail where and why his quote was different from other bids. It was obvious that he was going to be our choice of contractor. Despite wanting to hit the floor running we ran in to a lot of permitting issues with the city of Boston. Paulo stood by us for all the time it took (+6 months) to get all the permits and helped wherever he could. Once the works started things went fast. Paulo's team was punctual, kept everything clean and was amenable to discussing and planning last minute changes to the original plans. If there was a cost change he would always first inform and discuss with us. He was also instrumental in solving some issues that came up while the project was moving along and he personally made sure that his subcontractors (mason, electrician and plumber, respectively) did their jobs according to the plans. At some occasions this even meant having them redo some things. In a couple of months we went from an empty basement to a fully and perfectly finished one-bedroom apartment. In a nutshell, Paulo (M&P home renovations) is and contractor that takes pride in his work. He will handle your project with professionalism and eye for detail and will do it for the right price. We highly recommend him and his team.

Overall, Paulo did a great job renovating our kitchen, converting a half bathroom to a full bathroom, and redoing our back deck. He's a kind, courteous, laid-back, and easy to get along with. Paulo is also trustworthy and reasonable.
Regarding some specifics of our project: Paulo was the only contractor who was willing to take on the task of opening up our kitchen and dining area to incorporate the sunroom as an open-concept area. After running into a few significant issues (e.g. asbestos, rotten floor joists, original deck footings that were not to code), Paulo "rolled with the punches" and did things in the right way and did not choose to take shortcuts. He worked with us, connecting us to quality vendors to acquire the materials we needed and connecting us to quality professionals to complete our major renovation work. Paulo was patient with us as first-time homeowners who were learning on-the-go how to do a major renovation project. Paulo was generally responsive over text and email as well. Paulo and his dad work well together and it was refreshing to see a father-son duo with a good working and personal relationship with one another.
A 5-star review in Thumbtack is considered "excellent" and (in my book) should be a nearly flawless interaction and experience. If you are a strong type A personality (like my wife and me), you may desire more clarity and details in communication and invoicing. There was a short stretch of time where we had all of the necessary materials on hand at the house, but our renovations did not make as much progress as we expected and, therefore, our finish date was unclear. Eventually, everything panned out, but you may need to be patient and persistent with Paulo about what you want and expect. In the grand scheme of things, these are minor issues compared to some of the horror stories I've heard from others with their contractors.
If you know what you want in your project and if you are looking for a high-quality human being who will produce good results, Paulo can the right contractor for you.

Thanks for leaving us a review, it was a pleasure doing business with you and your wife. I’m sorry you felt not much was done when you had the materials all in hand but don’t forget that you didn’t choose a patio door until I stepped in and that took 2 weeks to come in, so that means I couldn’t do the foam insulation and get the inspection. I also did tell you I was gonna be done by Thanksgiving and I finished 2 weeks prior to the date. I would like to Thank you for choosing us to do your project, Enjoy!!!
