These guys responded quickly, provided a competitive estimate, and then followed through in a timely manner with great execution. And the entire hiring process from posting to completion took less than three days. We are extremely satisfied with our landscaping and will definitely be using them again for other work in the future. Highly recommend!

Hired for removal of fallen trees and Spring Lawn Clean Up. We agreed to split the work into two jobs. Job 1 was removal of 2 partially fallen trees, which he and his team made fast work of. We met on. Saturday and agreed to remove the trees on sunday. They showed up ahead of the agreed time and finished the job in short order and cleaned up the street of any wood chips after the work was complete. Will post more once the Spring Clean Up Work is complete, but based on today’s work I would hire Thunder Landscape again. Antony was responsive, professional, priced fair and did the work we agreed to do.

Adelso has done a wonderful job with my fall clean up. My front yard has been ignored for the past couple of seasons, and his cleanup was far more than just raking leaves. He trimmed and cut back weeds and has made in the course of an afternoon my yard look like a new one. I am so happy. He will be plowing my snow this winter. And we are already talking about what to do with the garden in the spring. He listens. He cares. He recognizes my plantings. It's such a pleasure working with him.

I initially hired another person to complete some tree trimming who got injured on another job and couldn't complete my work in a timely manner so I contacted Daniel. He was immediately responsive and scheduled me in right away. He and Duma (the guy climbing the tree) worked very hard and listened to what I wanted. They showed up on time and clean up was great!! The price was very competitive and I have hired Daniel to do some landscape work as well.

These guys are AWESOME! Highly recommended. I took on a project on behalf of my condo association which meant there were technically 6 people that had opinions and the ability to try to change up our project last minute. Dan Hanna was a true professional and dealt with not only his side of the project but even our condo's side of the project that certainly wasn't his responsibility. To start, I posted a Thumbtack request one morning and within an hour got a call from Dan. He literally came by to see our property that evening (for reference the next quickest response was an email from another company 3 days after posting my ad). Unbelievable how Dan was able to come so quickly to give an estimate. He scoped out the project, which was a partial L-shaped fence and pavement to hide our trash behind as well as moving a bike rack that was cemented into the driveway. He spent all the time I wanted discussing potential solutions and even stood there with a smile on his face while 6 condo owners all tried to change the plans and mess up the project. Everything was possible as far as he was concerned. The quality of his work was clearly important to him. I asked some questions while he was doing the job and he was able to explain to me why the extra steps he was taking would allow our fence to stand up to the test of time. There are plenty of contractors and landscapers out there who are happy to cut a corner without you knowing just to make an extra buck off you. Dan is NOT one of those people. He'd rather make less and have you raving about his work (hence my review) Now that this project is complete our building will be hiring Dan to landscape our common area as well this year and the decision is now a no brainer for us. In the end Dan and Pro Cut & Clean Landscaping gave us a great price on high quality work and did it with a quick turnaround time!

Gilson and his team did a great job removing a large number of plants and shrubs from our back yard and replacing with mulch and stone. They didn't stop until the job was done. We will use them again in the future.

Bela Vista Landscaping was amazing, from first contact to when they completed the job. The customer service at Bela Vista is what every company should strive for - fast, helpful and responsive. Due to unforseen circumstances, Raphael has to work alone at my house and spent 6+ hours cleaning mulch beds and installing new mulch. He worked extremely hard and efficiently and very professional. I'll definitely be using Bela Vista again for more landscaping work.

Boston Cleaning, Landscaping and Painting is a real find. Jose and his three colleagues could not have done a better job of clearing, landscaping and mulching my property. They did the work promptly, finished on time and charged a reasonable price. During their worktime they were friendly, courteous and professional, and I genuinely enjoyed my interactions with Jose and the crew. I have already recommended their work to all my friends, and those who have already had work done are as happy as I am! I highly recommend Jose and his crew to anyone reading this review--you will not be disappointed! High quality work and very kind, thoughtful, hard-working individuals. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience working with Jose and his crew. My husband and I are already lining them up to do our fall cleaning and feel confident to use Boston Cleaning, Landscape and Painting for more projects in the spring. I can't say enough good things about these guys. Thank you, Jose! You guys are the best!!!

I LOVE my new patio! To anybody thinking about doing some type of hardscaping/landscaping work to their home, I would highly recommend you call Junielson! I dealt directly with him and found him to be very honest and direct. He communicated clearly with me regarding the decisions I needed to make, and always provided me with options to choose from ( going from a 1400 sq feet to a 900 sq feet patio for example, my bank account thanks you! 😁) I could tell that he wasn't just looking to get the job done, he was looking to get the job done right and to my satisfaction. You guys did a tremendous job, truly transforming the exterior look and appeal of my home. Your workmanship is impeccable and the work product is beautiful. Not only were you dependable, respectable, and tidy but your pricing was extremely fair.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
