At the last minute, my brother's widow requested we find a videographer to film his Memorial service. A couple of local calls were made, but everyone was already booked. Utilizing "Thumbtack," Michael Connell responded; I was nervous about booking a stranger over the internet. But, no worries: We couldn't be more satisfied! Prompt, courteous, professional, and responsive, Mike had the final video ready in just a week. His photo's and editing were spot on! Outstanding, actually.

Ryan was simply a joy to work with. He did not need any instructions, he knew what he had to do from our very first conversation. And he kept editing the final work until I was 100% happy with it. I will MOST certainly work with him again and I highly recommend him. On top of that his fees are very reasonable, one of the best. If you need a videographer for your event Ryan is your man. Thank you Ryan, you are the BEST!

I cannot say enough good things about our experience with Steven Foley. He was the epitome of professionalism. Not only is he a talented videographer, he knew just how to coach our interviewees to get the most out of their interview. He worked hard to get the best shot with a difficult location. He was on time, got right to work, and was flexible with our demanding schedule. We hope to be able to utilize his talent again in the future.

I highly, highly recommend Video by Jamie! I browsed through a lot of videographers online and the videos on Jamie's website stuck out the most to me and I was so happy that he was available for my wedding day. I had never met Jamie in person beforehand but he was very responsive to my emails and based on his past reviews, others had done the same thing and had no issues. Jamie was very professional as he provided a contract (one for him and a copy for me to keep) to confirm all details. Jamie was a pleasure to work with and other than organizing the plan while I was getting ready, which was in a ladies locker room so we had to coordinate with my day of planner, I didn't even notice he was there. Jamie's questionnaire allowed him to get a sense of my wedding style as well as he confirmed those details over the phone and answered any questions that I had. I am extremely happy with my final video and even the teaser video, that I recommend him to anyone wanting to have a videographer. I chose the cinematic style for my video which blended the entire day into a seamless video that captured everything from my wedding day. I think a video is more special than photos because of the emotions and movements that you get to relive of your wedding day as you watch it. The final product was worth well more than what I payed for and therefore he is extremely reasonable as far as cost goes. Thank you so much Jamie!!

First of all it took me forever to book a videographer - my husband and I were back and forth on whether or not we wanted a video for our wedding. Jeremiah was so patient and kind during the emailing back and forth for months!! Looking back now - one of the first things my husband and I said after the wedding was "I cannot wait to see the video" I am so thankful i actually booked his team. Jeremiah's team Hayley and Nicole were amazing, they were so fun to be around, so professional all day and really made us feel comfortable in front of the camera. It is a testament to the videographers for making us feel so calm and comfortable. Also, at the end of the night the activities were running long and at the last minute my husband asked if they could stay an hour longer - and without hesitation they stayed and captured more of my special day. We lucked out finding Jeremiah and his team and I feel lucky to have shared our day with them! I would recommend them to anyone!

We thought that Jim Nogueria was a great wedding videographer! We found out about Jim's videography services through this website, Thumbtack. We were very satisfied with the overall quality of our wedding movie. We thought that the video captured all of the high points of our wedding, which included the key parts of the ceremony and reception. Although Jim was filming for 8-9 hours, the final edited wedding video was around 1.5 hours and included DVD chapters so we could navigate with ease to a certain part of the wedding movie. I had thought that Jim would have filmed the ceremony in its entirety, but he didn't include some of the standard Sunday mass aspects, like setting of the table, communion, etc. or the entire duration of the receiving line at the end of the ceremony. This was not a problem for us, but you just want to make sure the expectations are set and that you are both on the same page to avoid any disappointments at the end. Prior to hiring Jim as our wedding videographer, we liked how he was very responsive to the emails I sent him with my questions and how thorough he was with explaining the entire process. We actually never met face to face with Jim prior to the wedding, but felt that phone calls and emails were sufficient. We also liked how Jim, at the time of booking him which was almost 1.5 years ago, was one of the very few videographers in our area that was offering filming in 4K, which is the current and highest standard for video resolution. Jim always made sure that I was happy and completely satisfied with his services, including after he provided the finished product. In addition to the wedding video which he provided in the Blu-Ray disc format, at my request, he also provided me with the final wedding video/trailer video files, as well as all of the raw video footage which was not in the final wedding file. He sent me an external hard drive which I then I copied the files to my computer for backup purposes. Overall, we were very happy that we decided to hire a wedding videographer because the wedding video will be something that we will cherish forever.

Ed was wonderful! My husband and I could not be happier with our choice for a videographer. He is dedicated to creating truly unique videos that capture the joy of your event. With Ed, you don't just get a wedding video - you get a full documentary of the event from start to finish. After our first meeting with him, it was clear to us that he has a passion for this. and as a result treats each client and their video with care and gives it his full attention. He went above and beyond capturing footage of our wedding - from the rehearsal, to us girls getting ready, and even an interview with my husband and I after all the events of the day finished. His prices are very competitive and he provides better video coverage than all of the other videographers that I interviewed. Ed is an absolute pleasure to work with and we simply cannot say enough good things about him. Please feel free to contact me with any questions on my experience with Videonamic. I am more than happy to be a reference. Carolyn August 16, 2017

Paul was awesome. He was professional, courteous, fairly priced, and our video came out so perfectly. We are SO GLAD we decided to choose him as our videographer. He did a great job just blending in and not making everyone feel self conscious about being filmed. He captured some great candid moments and even took time to get some wedding venue, reception area, and nearby park shots to add to his footage. The final product was perfect and definitely brings us back to that special day. It is so wonderful to have all of these memories to share and watch back for the rest of our lives.

It was a hot summer day, but the videographer managed to keep me calm and was very patient. He calmly and encouragingly re-shot segments in order for me to get my comments to come out just right. Much more was shot than was actually needed, so that there was lots of footage to draw from for use in compiling the final product. The result was a very professional video promoting my book Quoting Matilda, a book about suffragist Matilda Joslyn Gage.

    About

I am a professional videographer who has worked in many fields. I am capable of creating the look you are looking for to meet and surpass your video needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
