Fantastic Piano Teacher As adults, how many times have we said "I used to play the piano"? I wanted to play the piano again, but was unable to find a teacher who met my needs as an adult learner. Then I found Bulent Guneralp. He answered my inquiry in a timely manner. We set up the first lesson and then I looked forward to the second lesson. I am now taking piano lessons almost weekly. Aside from his technical expertise, I think that one of the greatest things he gives his students is hope. I'm playing again, I'm practicing again. Sitting at the piano has become both challenging and fun, not a chore. Maybe because I am a teacher (of a different subject), I can recognize good teaching. Bulent is a fantastic music educator because he is neither too easy, nor too critical. He is pleasant, inspiring and meticulous. Most of all, I am hopeful about taking piano lessons again.

"For the past three years my high school aged son has taken piano lessons from Bulent. In all that time he has been consistently patient, kind, enthusiastic and inspiring. Bulent used every minute to provide the best instruction, correction and encouragement. His love of music is evident as he often shared suggestions and links for video and live performances. His rates are quite reasonable for individual instruction and he is accommodating to scheduling conflicts. I recommend him unreservedly! I have read some of the other positive reviews of Bulent and I can attest to the truthfulness of all of them - there is no exaggeration. Bulent is a remarkable human being and a wonderful teacher." Excellent teacher! "I've been taking piano lessons with Bulent for over 2 months now and he's been fantastic! He really teaches how to play with a lot of feel for the music and helps hone your intuition for how a piece should sound. He's very precise and is great at identifying areas for you to develop skills on, or what things to practice etc."

Jeanne responded quickly to the request, was a very good communicator, and through the first two guitar lessons with my daughter, things seem to be going very well! I greatly appreciate her willingness to travel a fair distance to come to our home and conduct the guitar lessons. Highly recommended!

Ms. Testa is a great piano instructor. My son, Andrew, has been taking lessons for almost a full year now and he loves it. When he comes home from camp he rushes right to the piano to practice. Andrew loves showing off what he has learned and even puts on a little show when his grandparents come to visit, its so cute! I can definitely say that Ms. Testa is a great instructor who puts in the time and cares for my little Andrew and it is definitely showing. I would recommend Ms.Testa to anyone who is just starting out or to anyone wishing to get back into piano.

Amanda patiently guided me through the basics of piano for 2 years. She answered every question calmly and thoughtfully, from the basic "where does my hand go again?" to "who invented the piano?" Every lesson was tailored to my needs and ability. I never felt intimidated by her, and she was always a pleasure to work with. It's cathartic playing piano, since it's another way to connect your mind and body. I highly recommend taking lessons with her! I bet she'd work well with children, too.

Kim K.

A perfect match for my 15 year old daughter taking singing lessons. Amanda's knowledge, talent, and enthusiasm are contagious. She has fostered my daughter's confidence and developed her singing skills. I highly recommend Amanda. You become part of her singing family and she gives more than 100% of herself each lesson. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

Marietta is a thoughtful and observant teacher who has helped me go beyond simply playing the notes on the page but rather give an actual performance, with solid technique and musicianship. She also has a warm personality and genuinely cares about her students. I am a graduate student in my late 20's who at one point in my life was seriously studying violin but fell off the wagon when I started college. Recently, after many years of not playing any instrument, I wanted to bring musical performance back into my life, so I started teaching myself piano. I already know how to read music so I could teach myself how to play beginner and intermediate pieces, but I felt there was something missing in the way they sounded in my inexpert hands. After trying out lessons with a few teachers, I chose Marietta because she immediately was able to notice problems with how I positioned my body, arms, and hands, and in more abstract things like how I was interpreting dynamics and phrasing the music, and how this connected to underlying problems of technique and mechanics. This type of instruction is ideal for an intermediate student like me.

I have been taking piano lessons from Marietta since October 2014 at her studio in Watertown, MA. I am a thirty something year professional who decided to learn piano and have been looking for a piano teacher for a while until finally found Marietta on Thumbtack. Upon meeting her I realized that she is the one and my search is over. Marietta is a highly professional piano teacher, she is patient with beginner students like me and very passionate about teaching. She has students at all ages and levels. She highly emphasizes on correct coordination and technique and make sure you have adopted the right hand skills before she moves on to the next lesson. She is very nice, supportive and approachable and you can always ask any questions you might have. I live and work far from Watertown, but I think piano lessons with Marietta is totally worth the 15 mile commute.

We hired Greg to come into our home to teach our 12 year old son piano and guitar lessons. His knowledge of music is astounding! He has brought interesting and challenging pieces of music to learn from rather than going through the traditional simple piano books which my son has found rewarding. Greg has a fun personality to match his love of all things music.

I have received vocal lessons from Peter for a little over six months now and he is fantastic. I can honestly say there is marked improvement in my singing. From the day one he focused on making lessons a personalized experience, by focusing on my goals and helping me determine where my strengths lie. Peter is excellent at explaining techniques such as posture and breathing and how each part affects the instrument as a whole. He is an extremely talented singer and multi-instrumentalist with an impressive background that shows through in his performance as well as his teaching. Peter’s positive attitude and passion for music creates a fun and upbeat learning environment. Every lesson is a challenge that keeps me on my toes, but I always go home smiling.

Loved working with this teacher. He listened to any concerns or questions that I had, and was great at incorporating different techniques into my lessons when there was something specific I wanted to learn or needed help with. He helped so much with learning how to sing a different style of music and how to better perform in front of an audience. Highly recommend him!

I took several piano lessons and lessons on composition with Peter. Peter is very experienced with piano teaching and also very knowledgeable with various genres that I was interested in. He introduced me to the basic theories (chord progressions, rhythms, and etc) of jazz and samba and also helped with a composition that I was working on.

At the age of 54 I decided to take up piano after many years of toying with the idea. I had no music bankground and didn't know a staccatto from a fortissimo. My daughter had been taking voice lessons from Lenae and when she had an opening I decided the time had come. I am thrilled that I did. I love playing piano and, although I don't have any particular talent for it, I am very pleased by how far I have come in two years. Lenae has been the perfect teacher. Lessons are relaxed and without pressure, and she moves at a pace that makes sense for me. She is ALWAYS pleasant and supportive.

Fran K.

Verified review

My son has been taking piano lessons with Lenae for the past 5 years and we have been very happy with her. As he is approaching his teenage years, it's been a bit of a struggle to keep him interested but Lenae works hard to keep him engaged. She tries to find music he prefers while keeping him progressing musically. She is very patient and has a gentle manner with my son. Lenae also provides thorough and useful feedback on a regular basis. I would highly recommend Lenae if you are seeking piano lessons for your child or yourself (she has adult students too).

Bill K.

I have taken voice lessons in the past with other very skilled instructors, but they were unable to help me get over certain hurdles. Lenae's technique has helped me to conquer many of my anxieties and difficulties related to singing. She has a very relaxed style and gives her lessons in a comfortable setting. I began taking lessons with Lenae in early October 2014, and I've noticed vast improvements in my technique in that short amount of time. I plan to continue working with Lenae for a long time to come!

Took lessons with Don when I was in my sixties. Loved his method of teaching and at the very least can sit down at the piano and play to my satisfaction. After much searching my daughter in law found a piano teacher in N.J. with a similar philosophy of teaching for her daughter with amazing results. She is now creating her own songs and loving it. I strongly recommend Don. He is the best.

It was a pleasure to take piano lessons with Don in his studio. He is professional, organized and kind! I was given a binder to help organize homework, repertoire. But I had to take a break from lessons for personal reasons. I think I will return to them soon next year! And Don will definitely be one of my top choices.

I'm a very busy technology professional. After many years of playing and studying on my own since college, I decided to look for teacher again. I met Ben through Thumbtack and started studying with him about a year ago. I can easily say that Ben is by far the best music teacher that I've ever had. With Ben, I study classical, jazz, composition, theory, technique and performance - all integrated into a single holistic, experience-based learning approach. Besides being a master, Ben is amazingly motivating and supportive - he puts my creative experience at the center of all we do. I've progressed in so many ways, none of which I would have expected a year ago. I've met several other of Ben's students - from children and adult beginners to highly trained professional musicians. They all say very similar things. I highly recommend studying with Ben.

I came to Ben looking for lessons on piano improvisation. Coming from nothing, Ben did an extraordinary job immediately helping me become familiar with the concept of improvising while pushing me to not only challenge myself, but to understand what I was doing and why it made sense. Ben's background and talent really show in his teaching style and I left every lesson anxious to get home and practice what we had just gone over. I'd recommend Ben to anyone who wants to get top level education in anything piano.

Rachel A.

Ben is a wonderful teacher and already after two lessons I feel more connected to the instrument. Also, the lessons have inspired me to play more frequently at home and just enjoy my time making music. He might be more pricey than other teachers but I feel the price is fair for the quality of teaching.

If you have an opportunity to work with Tim I highly, highly recommend it. Here's why - he knows his stuff and he's one of the most gifted teachers I've ever met. Period. I first met Tim a few years ago in California, looking for someone to teach me the drums. As an adult learner I was pretty set in my ways - I'd done customer training for more than 15 years and was usually very skeptical when it came to how other trainers approach teaching students. Simply put, Tim blew me away. He knows the drums, without a doubt. What sets him apart from other teachers is his natural ability to lead, guide, ans instruct. He's patient, he's kind, and he's genuinely invested in your growth as a student drummer. Every student learns a little differently and I've seen Tim easily adapt his teaching methods in ways that best suit his students' learning preferences. That's not something you learn, it's something you feel. If you're an adult like me, or a parent looking for the best teacher to help your child learn, understand and incorporate the beauty of music in to his/her life, Tim Carman is the guy for you.

Tim is an amazing instructor! he worked extremely well with me asking how i learn best, as well as would not only teach, but study me as well. when i went in for my lesson he had me play to warm up, taught me a few things to help with technique, and saw a few habits i did and corrected them to make learning easier. Tim was very professional and yet laid back which is great because it didn't feel like i was back in school. he let me learn the songs that i wanted to learn, and wrote down our lesson to practice at home. i am very excited for my next lesson with him.

Josh is an excellent, engaging piano teacher. My 6 year old really enjoyed her lessons and was able to grasp the lessons quickly. Other staff we delt with have also been nice to work with. My only issue with DeAngelis Studio of Music is that the building is not handicapped accessible, piano lessons are on the third floor,, which made it difficult for me. Josh even offered to come down the stairs to get my daughter and bring her back down, which was very nice, but at her age, she wanted me present, and the stairs were a challenge.

Extremely pleased with instruction from IAN - I am rapidly learning new piano skills and theory from an enjoyable musical perspective, rather than just mechanics. Love that. Now I truly wanted to the whole experience five stars (and IAN is definitely five stars by himself) but had to notch it down because the piano in the studio is in dire need of tuning so I couldn't honestly say 5 stars across the board.

I can't say enough good things about Mike and the DeAngelis school of music and arts. My son is so happy with his guitar lessons and his band. He's not an easy kid to keep interested in anything and Mike and his teachers have the patience to keep him focused and engaged. My son and I could not be happier. His playing is coming along nicely and his band flat out rocks! Thanks DeAngelis school.

Forest teaches guitar lessons to my 12 year old daughter. She is an excellent teacher and an extremely likable person. She is the perfect combination of personable and professional and has not only taught my daughter a great deal, but has actually inspired her to practice on her own and take it seriously. We will continue working with her as long as she'll have us. I highly recommend Forest for music lessons.

I took some basic banjo and country guitar lessons with Forest for six months before I moved away from Boston. I had some self-taught experience but was mostly a beginner. She taught me so much about the fretboard, which really opened up my playing, and I had a blast learning songs that contained new techniques for me to work on. Highly recommended for any beginner player at any age.

Both my two daughters have been taking piano lessons with Ms. Tamara Medoyeva since age of 7 and 5 respectively since 2006. She is a very devoted teacher. She teaches the real music with her decades of experience. What I love her the most is that she develops different curriculum for them based on their different personality and skills. She combines big pieces with side readings very well so that when keep the students challenged she also let them try easier but fun pieces. Ms. Tamara Medoyeva also has a very open mind. She collects feedback from me all the time. When my daughters are frustrated sometimes when they hit their plateau period, she never pushes them too hard. We never had any communication problems. We are very lucky to have a such a caring and capable piano teacher.

I AM A RETIRED ADULT WHO HAS SUNG IN CHORAL GROUPS ALL OF MY LIFE BUT HAD NO KEYBOARD EXPERIENCE. I BEGAN TAKING PIANO LESSONS FROM TAMARA ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO AND HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK. SHE HAS A WONDERFUL GIFT OF STARTING WHEREVER YOU ARE IN TERMS OF ABILITY AND CRAFTING A COURSE OF STUDY THAT IS UNIQUE TO YOUR INTERESTS, ABILITIES AND TIME COMMITMENT. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT HER TALENT AS A TEACHER WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO BOTH ADULTS AND CHILDREN WHATEVER THEIR SKILL AND EXPERIENCE LEVEL. I WOULD RECOMMEND HER ENTHUSIASTICALLY.

I started taking piano lessons with Tamara when I was eleven, and four years later have only good things to say. Lessons are always in a relaxed setting, but the music is serious. She never neglects details and technique, but what stands out to me is the emotion of my playing that has developed over the past four years. I am so grateful for all of the musical knowledge I have gained with Tamara, and look forward to everything I will learn in future lessons!
