About

Fantastic Piano Teacher As adults, how many times have we said "I used to play the piano"? I wanted to play the piano again, but was unable to find a teacher who met my needs as an adult learner. Then I found Bulent Guneralp. He answered my inquiry in a timely manner. We set up the first lesson and then I looked forward to the second lesson. I am now taking piano lessons almost weekly. Aside from his technical expertise, I think that one of the greatest things he gives his students is hope. I'm playing again, I'm practicing again. Sitting at the piano has become both challenging and fun, not a chore. Maybe because I am a teacher (of a different subject), I can recognize good teaching. Bulent is a fantastic music educator because he is neither too easy, nor too critical. He is pleasant, inspiring and meticulous. Most of all, I am hopeful about taking piano lessons again.

About

Anita is a wonderful person, as well as a very talented musician. She has gone above and beyond to help me out on more than one occasion. My daughter, Jackie, has been taking vocal lessons at Music Elements for over a year, and she has also taken piano lessons with Jamie. Jackie just started with a new vocal teacher, Naomi, and she absolutely loves her! Naomi is an amazing singer and really makes the lesson fun. I can't say enough about her. Jamie is also an amazing teacher. He is extremely talented and works very well with people of all ages. Anita always has exceptional teachers on staff. I highly recommend Music Elements to anyone! About

I have been taking piano lessons from Marietta since October 2014 at her studio in Watertown, MA. I am a thirty something year professional who decided to learn piano and have been looking for a piano teacher for a while until finally found Marietta on Thumbtack. Upon meeting her I realized that she is the one and my search is over. Marietta is a highly professional piano teacher, she is patient with beginner students like me and very passionate about teaching. She has students at all ages and levels. She highly emphasizes on correct coordination and technique and make sure you have adopted the right hand skills before she moves on to the next lesson. She is very nice, supportive and approachable and you can always ask any questions you might have. I live and work far from Watertown, but I think piano lessons with Marietta is totally worth the 15 mile commute.

About

Deyana is a great teacher. She is very knowledgeable and patient. It is easy to find good piano players in Boston, but hard to find someone who is able to teach well as well. I would recommend her to anyone looking for piano lessons.

About

My son has been taking piano lessons with Lenae for the past 5 years and we have been very happy with her. As he is approaching his teenage years, it's been a bit of a struggle to keep him interested but Lenae works hard to keep him engaged. She tries to find music he prefers while keeping him progressing musically. She is very patient and has a gentle manner with my son. Lenae also provides thorough and useful feedback on a regular basis. I would highly recommend Lenae if you are seeking piano lessons for your child or yourself (she has adult students too).

About

Music Theory Tutoring There are at least couple of reasons why you might desire music theory tutoring. 1) You are entering into an undergraduate or graduate music program and are required to take a music theory placement exam. Many colleges provide "practice" or "sample" exams on their websites, so you can have an idea as to what's expected. 2) You are already a student who is doing poorly in the subject and you must raise your grade. There are also reasons beyond these, of course, which I'm happy to accommodate. We can hold as few or as many lessons as we need for you to get where you should be. Whenever possible, we will clarify your school's expectations and work toward that goal. I teach music theory remotely via video conference or from my home in Lowell, MA (downtown, near the Tsongas Center). I typically do not travel unless you are within an extremely close proximity to me. Tutoring sessions are either 1 or 1.5 hours and rates are $40 or $50, respectively. The first session is $30. Payments are made online via PayPal, and all payments must be received no later than 48 hours prior to each session. If a payment is not received by this time, I reserve the right to cancel the session. All payments are nonrefundable. All sessions must be planned at least four days in advance, preferably one week in advance. If multiple sessions are planned in advance, the above payment policy still applies for each individual session. There is no required commitment beyond one session at a time. Piano Lessons I have been teaching piano to students, five years old and older, at a community music center for the last year and privately prior to that in the Roslindale and Jamaica Plain areas. Currently, I seek to increase my number of private students by teaching also from my home in Lowell. I make it fun and enjoyable for my students and try to pull from a number of different teaching lineages. I use method books to introduce students to the written language of music while simultaneously working on tone production and articulation by way of aural imitation. Lesson lengths for younger children can vary according to attention spans, but are typically a half hour long. Lesson lengths for teenagers and adults are typically one hour. My hourly rate is $40 and $20 for a half-hour lesson. The first lesson, the "trial lesson," is half off. Should a student commit thereafter, payment is made for a complete month at the beginning of each calendar month, pro-rated if a student begins mid-month. There are no refunds. Makeups for missed lessons are handled on a case-by-case basis. Students are taught how to practice and are expected to practice daily and diligently. Practice times may vary from student to student, with youngest students setting aside 10 minutes per day, at the least. Parents should help their children when they practice. Students are expected to own their own piano, acoustic or electric. It is crucial that this piano have 88 keys with weighted action as well as pedals. Parents are encouraged to be present at all lessons, silently observe, and take notes if desired. A post-lesson rundown with parents clarifies expectations for the next lesson. An assignment book is required for each student, in which I write the expectations for next week and any other helpful information. It is always helpful if a parent can read music, but it is not necessary. Recordings of the music being worked on will be provided so that the parent can know what the music should sound like. About Me I have been teaching music theory, musicianship (ear training), and class keyboard to undergraduates for a total of nine years and piano to beginners for a total of two years. I hold a PhD in music composition. My degrees come from the Berklee College of Music, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the University of Oregon School of Music. I am adjunct faculty of music at two colleges as well as a piano instructor at a community music center. I am a composer of, primarily, chamber music, and my music is performed internationally.
