About
Sakurako Kanemitsu has been teaching privately and in academic settings for over a decade. With degrees in piano performance in both bachelor's, master's, and graduate performance diploma, she has a wide range of experience of teaching students as young as 5 years old, well into adulthood with skill level from absolute beginner to students wanting to pursue music professionally. Her students regularly participate in local music competitions and festivals, as well as the MTAC Certificate of Merit every year.
Ms. Sakurako is passionate about passing down to future generations the beauty and the high-level of art making that is piano playing. With many students engrossed in virtual reality and participating in large amounts of "screen time" it is important for students to also be grounded in the "here-and-now" through learning and playing music. Playing an instrument has been scientifically proven to be the only activity that can light up all areas of the brain at the same time, making it one of the most demanding and difficult thing a person can do. But with that, great benefits can be reaped! Taking part in regular lessons and practicing sessions has been proven to enhance anyone's concentration, problem-solving, and flexibility in other areas of study--not just in music.
Ms. Sakurako also enjoys guiding seasoned players to expand their sound into even more sensitive and colorful sphere as well as ways to express emotions through the piano.

Sakurako is exactly the kind of teacher I was looking for. She is a performing and teaching professional who takes care that all facets of music are covered in her teaching. She has high standards yet is very encouraging to the student. I could not have found a better teacher!

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
30 min lesson--$43.50 (recommended for beginners)
45 min lesson-- $65.25(recommended for adult beginners and intermediate students)
60 min lesson--$87 (recommended for late intermediate to advanced)
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We will start off with a trial lesson ($30 fee for 30 minute consultation) which typically takes about 30 minutes. During that time we will assess the student's level of skill, what their initial goals are, and discuss what I expect as a teacher from them. We will go over the studio policy and discuss about any materials that may need to be purchased (such as books/metronome). After, if for some reason the lesson time or day needs to be changed to accommodate scheduling, we can find something that works.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Music in piano performance as well as a Master's in Music in piano performance. I recently graduated with my Performance Diploma at Longy School of Music at Bard College in the Spring of 2024. I have received substantial scholarship from Longy as well as appointed as a Collaborative Piano Fellow.
I perform regularly and have been teaching students of all ages and levels for more than ten years. I participate yearly in international music festivals to be in touch with fellow musicians and to keep learning about my craft. I have also been playing the piano since I was 5 years old.
