Muhit R. says, "I highly recommend One Way Home Improvements and Jarbas Souza! Jarbas and his team built our new composite deck, and the results are absolutely outstanding. The workmanship is top-notch-clean lines, sturdy railings, and excellent attention to detail. Jarbas was professional, punctual, and very responsive throughout the entire project. He guided us through design choices and kept us updated every step of the way. The project was completed on time, and the crew left our yard spotless afterward. Jarbas even went above and beyond by helping me return some large items that wouldn’t fit in my car-he is truly a good and honest person. We couldn’t be happier with our new deck- it’s beautiful, extremely well-built, and already our favorite outdoor space. If you’re looking for high-quality work and a trustworthy contractor, Jarbas is the person to call!"See more

Recovery Construction and Handyman services, has always been a dream I’ve had since the first time I put on a tool belt when I was 17. But it’s never been a reality until now. My name is Jesse Lacouture , I’ve been working in the construction industry for 21 years. A little bit about me Jesse Lacouture. Currently I also work full time for Jordans Furniture as a Sleep Technician in Natick. I’m a father to 4 wonderful boys Joey, Micah, Landon, and Jaxon. A husband to my wife Angela, and a life long resident of Millbury. I’m an avid or rabid sometimes insane sports fan, of all sports especially football, oh and my childhood favorite that I’ll never let go of Professional Wrestling, yes that is WWE and AEW ( I know what your thinking). I also am a member of CrossFit Claddagh in Auburn, where I enjoy fitness and the feeling of being part of an extended family. When the idea of taking being “the guy that people know that can do any carpentry or construction “ to the next level I would always get so excited and it’s blossomed into something great. Recovery Construction and Handyman services has come to life! Building decks has to be my specialty, one of my favorite projects to work on. But all phases of carpentry are available and can be done! From framing, windows, doors, decks, siding, flooring (all kinds wood, laminate, and tile). Or just those small odd jobs that need to be done, like repairing drywall and of course those “ to do lists” that just never get done. Working a full time job and starting a business with a large family doesn’t leave much time for days off, but when they do happen as a family we love making memories, going on vacations and seeing the world. I was taught hard work, family first, and honesty from my mother. She was a single mom of 3 kids and always made sure we had what we needed, so I learned that from her. So when the idea of Recovery Construction and Handyman Services came about I knew from life experience it would take hard work perseverance to make it happen! Now that it’s out in the world, for your next home improvement project think of us! Repair. Rebuild. Reimagine. RecoverSee more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Does adding a porch increase home value?

A porch may increase your home’s value and boost its curb appeal. However, you’ll need to do your research to understand what types of home upgrades can attract potential buyers.

Does a porch need foundations?

Yes, your porch should have a foundation that adheres to your local building codes. You can often find this information online. You can also consult your porch builder and ask for their help when navigating building codes.

What is a sleeping porch?

A sleeping porch is a screened balcony or deck that contains sleep furnishings and cool breezes. If you live in a region that experiences warm weather at night, these porches can provide a way to escape the heat and get a good night’s sleep.

How much is a porch?

It costs about $5,000-$10,000 to build a small, basic porch, according to HGTV. Prefabricated porches typically cost around $10,000-$30,000. Larger, custom-made porches can cost as much as $50,000.

To find out exactly how much your porch will cost, request a cost estimate from a porch builder near you.

How much does it cost to build a deck?

The cost of building a new deck or porch is $1,500. However, this price can vary depending on a few different factors. The square footage of the space, the type of materials to be used, the intricacy of the project and your specific region can cause the price to fluctuate. To find out how much your new deck will cost, get free estimates from the best deck contractors near you.

Does a deck increase home value?

A back deck may (or may not) increase your home’s value or attract potential buyers if you’re looking to sell. According to the Remodeling Impact Report: Outdoor Features, a new wood deck with an estimated construction cost of $10,000 recovered $8,000 for the overall recovery of 80%. Still, 9% of realtors suggested that home sellers should add a new wood deck before putting their home on the market, and 4% said this project has helped closed deals.

The impact of adding a new deck will likely depend on its material (wood, composite, etc.) and where you live. For example, if you live in an area where people rarely spend time outside because of the weather, it’s reasonable to predict that prospective home buyers might not rate a deck highly on their list of must-haves when looking for a new home.

When in doubt, consult with your realtor or a real estate expert to figure out if adding a new deck to your home is the right move to increase your home’s value. If it is, contact the best deck contractors near you to get free estimates and start planning your project.

Is it hard to build a deck yourself?

If you don’t have the skills, experience and qualifications, building a deck may be difficult for you to do on your own.

Structural integrity is key when constructing anything, but especially something you plan to have your family and friends use regularly. The safety of the structure takes careful planning and experience.

Professional contractors have the knowledge to make a safe, beautiful deck for you. They also know the proper permits and insurance required to legally build a new deck or remodel a porch in your city.

When in doubt, contact the best deck contractors near you and start getting free estimates today.

What should I ask a deck contractor?

One of the first questions you should ask is whether the contractor has the proper license or insurance. To be a licensed contractor in many states, they must have the experience and knowledge to pass the requirements from your state’s licensing board.

You should also inquire if they have done work related to your specific project. Just because they’re a contractor, that doesn’t mean they’ve built a deck or an addition like yours. Ask for photographs of decks they've built in the past, and go online to read reviews from past clients.

You also need to ask for a free estimate from several contractors so you know how much the project will cost you (and so you can pay the best price).
