I have taken Gentle Yoga with Asya at Sun & Moon for years. When I heard that she was offering a more personalized therapeutic class, I jumped at the chance to address my particular problems -- back issues, bad knee, Morton's neuroma in my toes -- all things that made some yoga poses very challenging for me. It was wonderful to have her focus on my issues, and she helped me develop a personal practice to work on these things. Her gentle and encouraging voice, strong knowledge of anatomy, and inventive teaching style made it pleasurable as well as useful.

I've had massage therapy from a few people all over the DMV area. For me it's hard to find the right person to do that, as it's such a delicate situation to be in with someone you don't really know. Dani made me feel comfortable and able to relax and let go of all my anxieties, stress and tension, with her I was able actually relax (which is really hard for me). You can tell that she has had lot of training and experience. I recommend Heal our Souls to everyone I know, it is THAT good. Thank you Dani for all your help with my back pain! 10/10

Mr. Tsakounis (Thom) is a skilled and caring therapist. We came to "A Quiet Journey Counseling " center for couples counseling. My husband was very reluctant at first, but quickly found Thom to be a supportive and understanding ally. Feeling like Thom "got " him, and us, allowed our work with Thom to progress quickly. As a mental health therapist myself, I have very high expectations for fellow counselors. Thom met or exceeded my expectations! He is well versed in a number of holistic, cognitive behavioral and Gestalt modalities, and a genuinely caring human being. While my husband and I have more work to do, Thom has supported us and given us new tools to communicate more effectively in our relationship. I reccommend Mr. Tsakounis whole-heartedly!

Wow, Wow, Wow! About my massage, I had indicated that I needed firm pressure due to my extremely tense muscles.  Shawn worked closely with me to ensure the right pressure was being utilized.  Additionally, he worked with me before the massage started to figure out how much time to delegate to my problem areas.  He spent just the right amount of time on my neck, shoulders, and back.  He worked on my arms and legs for just the right amount of time.  Either way, I left feeling the best I had ever felt.

Keren at Nourish Well, LLC has truly been a godsend. One year ago, I found myself suffering from debilitating symptoms, which included nausea, dizziness, severe anxiety, and heart palpitations. My doctor gave me a few diagnoses, none of which were treatable. I was miserable, scared, and overwhelmed...that is until I began treatment with Keren. Keren listened intently, asked meaningful questions about my symptoms and health history, and formed a plan to heal the underlying causes of my symptoms. I felt relief and comfort knowing that there was a path to better health laid out before me. Within days of following this new wellness protocol, I was functional in my normal daily activities. Within weeks, all my acute symptoms had subsided. Months later, even my occasional dizziness, heartburn, and mild anxiety had faded away. I have enthusiastically continued treatment with Keren to work on my other wellness goals, and will continue to do so as my body and environment change. Keren has always been warm, caring, accessible, and committed to improving my health and wellness. Her approach to treatment is aimed at the entire person-body, mind, and spirit-not just the symptoms. Her expertise in several fields of wellness and natural therapies support this integrated approach, which I have benefited from immensely. Optimal health and wellness is attainable, and I'm so grateful to have Keren to guide me there.

For my session Patrick came to my hotel room while I was in town on a business trip. He brought all the necessary equipment needed to provide a professional massage. Patrick was expert in his approach to my needs. As a Crossfit Athlete, I am not particularly gentle on my body all the time, and he was able to get in and work out some problem areas. His knowledge of human anatomy and how its used both in sport and in daily use is extraordinary. He brings a lifetime of experience from martial arts, healing arts and massage therapy to each session creating a customized, intense(ive) treatment for you. He has a wide range of techniques and modalities to draw upon which makes for a very therapeutic and results based experience. As a fellow massage therapist I drew lots of new ideas from his treatment, and he's motivated me to keep diving deeper into my own healing practice. My one and only regret is that he's hundreds of miles away from my own practice and I can't schedule regular sessions with him. I would highly recommend Patrick to anyone needing results. If I am ever back in Baltimore, I will absolutely schedule another session!

I'm a very intuitive and energetic Massage Therapist.

We specialize in wellness training and beautification of clients. Our goal is to create physical and spiritual alignment.

I have the benefit of being able to draw from both eastern and western methods as I trained as a nurse first before entering the holistic field. So my perspective is both anatomically and energetically bound. Biofeedback is also something I offer to deepen your sense of relaxation and focus providing a tool to handle your medical concerns and stress.

Stress can cause life in today's society, where we deal with many occupations and responsibilities, can be prevented in many ways. Trends indicate that more and more people need to seek help to be better; either to heal any disease or specific ailment or to feel more calm, de-stress and prevent serious problems. All one can do or use to feel better, welcome! Health happens everywhere, not only for our body, which works in harmony with our mind and our emotions, but also for our environment, our home, our workplace, our relations with the immediate environment and above all, or not aligned with what we are with our dreams and our goals. The more "tuned " we are with our true path in life, the greater the rewards at all levels. Because being healthy has a lot to do with being happy, peaceful, to feel useful and in what we like and we are gratified. Holistic therapy is a combination of techniques and methods aimed to work, consciously and unconsciously, the causes of diseases and imbalances in the body. The diagnosis is based on a set of information: a complete picture of the patient, the demonstration of specific symptoms, posture, body language, tone of voice, emotions, responses to specific questions, the energy state of the person etc. Based on this diagnosis, deciding how to work and what technique or techniques used during the session. The issues are varied, from depression to physical problems , emotional problems, relationship, etc. When working on major energy channels of the patient, we are influencing their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state, helping you re-establish your own self-healing power.

"The light of the world leading you home to God." I provide holistic approach of both traditional manual therapy, energy medicine, and spiritual healing. Specializing in healing chronic pain, my approach leads the patient inward to remember who they truly are, which is a son and daughter of God. In this remembering, the illusions of pain, regardless of origin, disappear and healing occurs. You need not be physically present to receive healing for time and space are illusionary.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

      • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
      • Nutritional medicine
      • Botanical medicine
      • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
      • Hygiene
      • Counseling
      • Minor surgery
      • Homeopathy
      • Acupuncture
      • Intravenous and injection therapy
      • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

      Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

      • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
        • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
      • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
        • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
        • Do I need a referral?
        • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
        • What will the co-pay be?
        • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
      • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

      Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
