Chef Kev provided wonderful food and outstanding customer service. He was very pleasant to work with. He and his assistant, Anita, made it possible for us to relax and be good hosts while our guests were taken care of. I appreciated the worry-free night knowing that everything was handled. Anita even chatted with guests who didn't know many people to make sure they were having a good time. My favorite items were the pasta salad, pulled pork sandwiches, and the dessert tray items because they tasted great and they were easy to eat on small plates while standing up. The sparkling punch with strawberries was so good -- I think I drank a whole pitcher. Bonus: my fridge is full of awesome leftovers. I won't have to cook for a week.

Well well well, I'm not sure where to begin. Chef Serge is FABULOUS! His food is phenomenal and he is very creative with his menu. I had such a hard time narrowing down my selection. His personality is upbeat, lively and FUN! And all while cooking amazing food! I emphatically recommend Chef Serge to anyone looking for a CHEF, a cook, a caterer, anything you can use him for, do it! He also brought an assistant who was equally as pleasant and amazing. I attended two cooking classes ( light Mexican and healthy grains) taught by Chris & Emily at the William Tally Rec Center. I highly recommend these classes. They were very informational and Chris &Emily are full of cooking knowledge which they share. We made several recipes and sampled our finished dishes. After the Mexican class, I promptly purchased a tortilla press. It is so easy to make your own corn tortillas. I would have never tried it on my own. Lori

What a great afternoon spent with Chef Jackie. Our group was from a 55+ neighborhood and the cooking class we chose was her Vietnamese menu. We hope to continue some more great classes with Chef Jackie.

I flew into town to plan my father's memorial. Mom wanted food delivered, set up, and kept tidy. We ordered from Wegman's and hired Chef Celestine. From the first contact with Sweet Bazil, staff were thorough professionals, confirming details and keeping phone appointments. Chef Celestine talked me through everything I should consider and I opted for her coffee tea station and sterno warmers, along with three extra hours of her day. At first I wondered what she would be doing the whole time, but was so glad I had Chef's helping hands. She washed and replenished, and repacked food, so that at the end, there was literally nothing for me to do! If I lived here, I would definitely find an event for her to actually cook for. But for our family gathering of 40, this Helping Hand service really lightened my load.

The cooking lesson was for my teen daughter. Mary was very accommodating. She was well prepared and very professional. She taught my daughter with patience and she made it fun for her. She taught her terminology and safety, as well as helped her to create a wonderful meal. My daughter will continue taking culinary classes with Mary and I would not hesitate to recommend her to family and friends.

I would give Nasrin six stars if I could. She agreed to prepare dinner for two on the occasion of my wife's birthday. Over the course of 10-days of planning she consistently demonstrated creativity, flexibility, and reliability. On the night of the surprise dinner, she produced a delicious feast of regional dishes, in generous quantities. My wife was surprised and delighted, so I couldn't have been happier. Highly recommended!

Rakita was instrumental in helping my husband pull of the best First Mother's Day a girl could ask for. He surprised me by hiring her to come to our home to cook for us, eliminating the stress of going out to eat somewhere nice with a 6-month-old. Rakita's menu choices were varied and suited to different tastes. My husband had a blue cheese crusted steak that he said easily ranks among the best of his life (and this man loves his steak). I had a lobster and shrimp dish over truffled risotto that was equally flavorful and praise-worthy. We shared a better-than-the-Melting-Pot cheese fondue, well-seasoned spring salads, and tasty strawberry shortcake. Wine and a bouquet of fresh tulips were included in the service, as well as the washing of all dishes used in the preparation of our meal. Rakita was friendly, yet very professional. She eliminated the awkwardness that could be associated with hiring a personal chef, and worked quickly in our kitchen while we relaxed. I especially appreciated this, as we had just come off travel and I was recovering from a less-than-pleasant illness. I'd highly recommend Rakita Lillard as a personal chef. She's a fantastic chef, and from what my husband says, comes in at an incredibly fair price point.

I thoroughly enjoyed my coooking class with Manjiri! She was fantastic at explaining and also demonstrating the cooking techniques. The recipes were easy to follow and I was able to recreate them at home easily. Best part was that the food was delicious!! My daughter and I love the flavors of Indian food and Manjiri's dishes were comparable to food cooked at a high quality restaurant. I highly recommend her cooking class, you will love her!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
