FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When working with a new customer, I try to assess their needs for the event. Should I be stationary, or is it best if I stroll around, visiting tables, and entertaining the guests that way? I let them know how I work, what to expect, and prompt them to ask any questions. For many, it is their first time planning an event of that nature, so I try to give some best practices advice from my experience while not intruding too much.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As with any art, I'm constantly learning. There are always new designs for the latest movie or cartoon out there. I own several instructional DVDs from top balloon artists and attend at least one balloon convention (yes, there are several) each year.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Sometime in mid-2010, I picked up a pack of cheap balloons with a cheap pump at a CVS on a whim. I figured it'd be a nice parlor trick to know and has always been interested in the carnival arts. After a few (read: many) pops, I had a fantastically lop-sided dog. After practicing it and finally getting it down, I went online and learned how to make some more animals. The majority of what I learned after that first dog I learned from YouTube. When I ran out of balloons, I ordered more. I realized I was good at it and more so, thought it was incredibly fun. It slowly snowballed from there until now, when I'm twisting balloons and having fun as a full-time position.
