What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our typical process is interacting with a new customer either here on Thumbtack or our other methods of advertising. We then set up a time to call the customer. We set up a free assessment for the client to get a great idea of how we will program their workouts along with making sure the customer is a good fit with the trainer. We send a new client questionnaire to get a better idea of their goals, lifestyle, dietary habits, injury history, etc.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I study at least one hour every day through fitness books, journals, blogs, research on common topics further than my certification book dove into.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your service? If so, please share the details here.
Here are the standard 1 hour session prices:
1 session - $60
5 sessions - $275
10 sessions - $500
25 sessions - $1125
If additional people (couples, friends, small groups of 3-4)want to workout in the same session, just add $15 per person to the price.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
A lot of personal reasons made the decision for me. I went through my own fitness journey eight years ago. I was overweight due to poor diet and lack of exercise. I lost 50 pounds and I have kept it off ever since, even with gaining a lot of muscle in the process. Another reason was seeing family members suffer with preventable diseases. I saw my grandfather suffer with diabetes for years, leading him to eventually pull the plug on kidney dialysis. I never want to go through that kind of pain and I do not want anybody else to either. I have had an interest in fitness and personal training for a long time, but my unhappiness in all of my corporate jobs also had a role to play. I wake up very early every morning to train and it never feels like a chore. Personal training is the first career I have ever had that I truly love.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Most of my customers have weight loss and/or fat loss goals along with gaining strength. I work with people building muscle and gaining the proper weight. I train a few endurance athletes with my distance running background. I work with clients who have injuries in the lower back, shoulders, knees, etc. My focus with them is to still help them reach their goals, but to also play in a role in helping to lessen the pain in their injuries. Our trainer Deonte Toliver works with all of the above, and has physical therapy experience as well. He also works with football players.
Our trainer, Samantha Bowman works with weight loss, strength, and bodybuilding clients as she is a competing bodybuilder herself.
Our trainer, Enitan Falana works with weight loss and strength training clients, and he is excellent with yoga and flexibility as well.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I want them to know that most of my workouts are tough, but I put myself through tough workouts almost every day as well. However, there are some workouts that are set up for strengthening purposes of certain muscle groups. I want to correct muscular imbalances, not enhance them. I do this profession out of love for health and fitness, along with the motivation to help change lives.
