I like what I do very much. I like to share a good job well done with my clients. Their satisfaction and the fee are my reward :) I do most of the work either with the help of one other, the owner if they care to participate, or by myself. I really don't want to supervise, I'd rather spend the time doing the best job I can. Word of mouth advertising is very economical. The many different tasks and jobs keep this occupation very interesting. Unlike construction, every job is different and a problem to be solved for the client The older the house the more there is to learn about the history and story that goes with each one.

Had Kevin come round and put up some floating shelves and very large mirrors. He was punctual and professional, having already gone to the hardware store to source appropriate wall mounts. I'll call him again when I decide what to do in my living room, his rates are very reasonable.

Elizabeth was the first client to hire me. She was great to work for/with. She helped measure the long wall to center the mirror. Helped mark drill holes for the floating shelves and even jumped up on the computer desk to hang a tricky mirror that was suspended by thin cotton rope. If all clients are like her, then work will no longer be considered a four letter word.

My experience getting help from Kevin could not have been better. I needed help fixing a broken door and touching up some walls in our living room. I received three quotes from thumbtack and elsewhere. Kevin was the only sensible choice because he was asking for less than half the money that the others were asking for and he was the most helpful in terms of describing what he thought the problem with our door was and how to fix it. He also told me he had all the screws and tools he'd need to do the job so I didn't have to worry about that. Kevin completed the tasks perfectly. In addition, he was knowledgeable, friendly, communicative, and went beyond what was required by offering to touch up a few additional walls for free. I will definitely seek out Kevin for other jobs in the near future.

Kevin was hired to stop the leaking from my overhead foyer window. He carefully assessed the issue, found the problem and fixed the leak. He did not have the proper chalk for the job and decided not to take a short cut, he went to the local Lowes to get what he needed. I will hire him again.

Kevin is great! He understood the importance of primer and letting coats dry. Hired him for a small paint and stain job, but he was able to fix all the other little things around the apartment that needed fixing--a closet door, weather-stripping the windows, getting doors to latch. So he's a great find. All interactions have been very pleasant! He's a good communicator.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I do not do any formal continuing education. Older houses just don't change that much. The codes do though, so I get the latest books and manuals or call the town inspectors directly for my own edification and to discover if those who have come before have done the same
How did you get started doing this type of work?
My father was an production engineer. His job was to solve problems. He also liked to fix things. I got the bug from him. Only I applied it to problems centered around home renovations and repair. I also like to fix old hand tools.
What types of customers have you worked with?
The jobs I like most are moving walls fixing support beams, tiling, repairing trim and painting. I like to leave when the job seems complete.
