Elin and the trainer I worked with, Alek, are both professional and very responsive. Elin has so much information about health and nutrition and is always ready to give advice. My sessions with Alek have been productive and fun! I feel stronger than I have in years, and just signed up for more sessions because I have loved the progress I've seen.

I have worked with Gaurav over the past 3 years and during this time he not only introduced me to yoga but helped me cultivate a practice of my own. He is a patient instructor who pushes you but not beyond a comfortable pace. After learning from Gaurav I have realized that yoga is a complete mind body workout. I have never left a class feeling that I did not work my body hard. Gaurav has also been my nutrition guide over the past couple of years and has worked with me to improve the effects of PCOS. His 40 day plan helped me reset my body and allow my liver to detox while at the same time practiced moderation so i do not feel deprived. The plan helped me change my habits and get into the routine of making healthier choices food wise. With Gaurav's help my symptoms have greatly reduced and we continue to work on making my condition better by modifying the plan as need be. Overall my experience working with Gaurav has been extremely positive and has made me conscious of how important healing the body through yoga, exercise and nutrition is.

A GREAT dining experience from beginning to end. Chris is the ultimate professional, displaying extraordinary gourmet cooking skills blended with an engaging personality. Well before our special evening, I was given an opportunity to convey personal preferences and address any food limitations that might need to be considered. A beautiful seasonal menu was then provided, accommodating my general preferences, from which, we selected an amazing multi-course meal! Chris was right on time and established the perfect tone for a great evening to follow, inviting us to sit back and relax to becoming more involved in following his every move, if we'd like. We took advantage of the opportunity to watch a master at work and ask any questions that might help us to become any bit more skilled in the kitchen, as well. Chris' enthusiasm for the culinary world and vast knowledge about food is contagious and his dietary and nutritional tips incredibly informative. This was a welcome education on multiple levels. The beautiful presentation of each course was artwork, and our appreciation was only outdone by the delectable depth of its incredible taste. As delicious as the meal was and as informative and fun it was to watch it's preparation, Chris is simply an extremely nice, generous and caring person to invite into your home. For a unique dining experience where a gourmet restaurant, if feels, comes to the comfort of your home, rather than having to make the effort to go out to it, I KNOW you'll enjoy, as much as we did, the talents and charm of Chris Spears and a very special night you'll always remember.

I used Epicurean Nutrition Catering for a friend who just had surgery and her family of 5. The owner was so pleasant and flexible with the family's schedule. I will definitely be using this company again. The food was amazing and healthy. Great job and thank you for making dinner so easy for this family.

Training with Annie has been awesome! I was always active but could never seem to lose the weight. I signed up for the training and nutrition package and within 3 months I went from 32% body fat to 23%!! 9%!!! Annie has helped me to focuse my nutrition into a easy to follow routine that I can stick to during the work week. She has also helped point out my triggers for snaking and given me healthy options to combat that! Thanks Annie!!

Catherine Brown of FIT Nutrition was the guest speaker at my 1st Annual Breast Health Day in honor of my Mother who died from Breast Cancer at the age of 34. Catherine's presentation was interactive and very informative in proper nutrition and fitness can have a positive impact in overcoming any health ailments. She engaged the crowd and kept the attention of everyone in the room. Because of this she was awarded the opportunity to come back to speak at our 2nd Annual Breast Health Day.

Danny Dickerson is a highly motivating fitness and nutritional trainer. His personality, demeanor and temperament are uniquely suitable to be a coach for others. He is neither too strict nor too easy, but rather strikes the right balance to motivate his clients. He has a fund of knowledge in both physical training and in nutrition that he shares with his clients. Such extra sharing of his knowledge enhances the client's desire to succeed. Indeed, I have already seen great results. I have more energy, a better sleep pattern, a decrease in inches and more serenity. I am able to do more work around the house as a result of our work together. He is very detailed oriented and each session is both logical, linear and he documents the sessions. He also is quite a raconteur, which helps in his instructions. He is also timely and punctual. I would recommend him for any position with any organization, or for a reference to be added on any additional referral lists. Best regards, Joseph Friedman Attorney at Law

I train with Selena twice a week. She's very knowledgeable and very personable, it's so much fun training with her and it never gets boring because she always introduce new movements in every session. I have felt the positive changes in my body since I've been training with Selena; more trimmed and toned, my skin looks healthy, and I feel great (she also gives excellent advice on nutrition). Five stars for Selena!

Michelle counseled me on nutrition and beginner triathlon preparation. She was encouraging and understood the emotional dynamics behind my eating habits. She didn't just say: "eat this, and not too much" and then not understand when I was struggling to do what I intended (like some previous trainers I have worked with). She was also very encouraging and helpful on triathlon training plans and was fine with the fact that my performance goals were pretty modest compared to most of her other clients. Michelle will be a great coach for any athlete across the spectrum of beginner to elite.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.
