Loved my experience with A. Mack from start to finish. Courtney was incredibly accommodating and informative during the reservation process. Also, the movers came on time and ready to work! They were all VERY thorough and treated everything as if it were a family heirloom. I would DEFINITELY work with them again and highly recommend them to anybody else. I can't say enough good things about them.

The movers arrived on time, were very nice and professional, and did a great job moving the fridge. I would have never made it to the basement without them. I would use them again.

Movers were a few hours late for the move (due to truck getting stuck in a ditch on a dirt road), although Mr. Nelson personally came to help move in addition to the scheduled movers. The movers themselves were very courteous and efficient, and I was happy with their actual moving, although they did scrape up a narrow entryway in a rental, requiring a little paint to fix it up. That said, if I could guarantee timeliness, I would absolutely hire them again.

I'm so glad I chose Self Made Movers. First, they showed up early. With the window that I chose, this was very important. They were well equipped to handle my move. Tools, knowledge, and touch. I was downsizing from a 5 bedroom to a 3 bedroom and my move was flawless. My wife definitely appreciated their professionalism. They had all their credentials in place. I called around and they offered the best value. When it comes to referrals, they're right at the top of my list. Thanks Self Made Movers

I have seen alot of movers but none of them are as good as the movers from White they were helping me move a month ago. I had alot of stuff and honestly I didn't pack anything before they arrived. They took on the job and started packing everything. These men were very friendly and helpful. They were also very professional and organized. I have relocated 4 times and every time there were issueswith the movers. But these guys were amazing. I will definitely hire them again. Thank you Renee

I don’t think there are enough good things I can say about Jim and Joe. Their workmanship is meticulous, they’re punctual, knowledgeable, professional, and all-round great guys to deal with. In fact, if I could have given them six stars, I would have. I initially hired Jim and Joe to install some recessed lights in my home. I say “some”, when the reality was something in the order of 30 recessed light cans! Couple this with having to run additional power lines and several new switches (both two and three-way) and this install was a daunting task for even the most seasoned professional. But Jim and Joe were more than up for the task. Being a designer, I was very particular as to the placement of each recessed light. I made sure to mark exactly where I wanted each light to be installed (irrespective of the placement of any ceiling joists or wall studs). Not only was the workmanship impeccable, Jim and Joe installed each light exactly where I wanted it, and completed the work in what must be an absolute world record. They didn’t even flinch when at the last minute I asked them to install a new ceiling box and power line for a 120v smoke/carbon monoxide detector in my hallway. Jim and Joe’s workload quickly expanded from the recessed lighting install to the installation of all new interior doors (including several double-hung closet doors) - a total of 11 new interior doors. And as with any remodel, this job wasn’t without “extra work”, requiring building up several wall sections, and just as they had demonstrated with the recessed lighting installation, Jim and Joe’s door install was above reproach. I am so impressed with Jim and Joe with respect to both their workmanship and as individuals, that I have already booked them to perform even more work at my home early in the coming new year.

I would highly recommend Integrity movers. Jeff was very flexible and was able to accommodate my move date, although it was less than a week away. The movers arrived when expected, and they completed the move in the time quoted. I paid what I was quoted, and there was no extra hidden fees. The movers were courteous and friendly and worked hard (I moved from a third floor apartment without an elevator). I will definitely use them in the future if I need anything moved.

Tommy went above and beyond cleaning our home. As, I suffer from disabilities I had fallen so far behind I was concerned of health influences. Other cleaners refused to help us. Tommy and his crew not only tackled the huge task ahead of them; they didn't make me feel guilty and ashamed like the last cleaner. So thank you for your Grit, your kindness, and professionalism.

Though starting out in their newly organized working relationship, Dave and Steven of Designers Choice Interiors individually have many years of moving experience between them. Only the better movers have the ability and ambition to pursue an independent owner / operator business. They are personable, hard-working and caring -- having successfully worked for some of the better moving companies in town. As a colleague in the trade, I can offer this positive review based on my firsthand knowledge and numerous customers' feedback -- John R. / Pleasing Disposition, LLC

Movers R Us in Clinton Twp, Mi .. Wonderfull !! I have been most privileged during the last nine years as an Inspector to know, work with and observe a wonderful group of professional movers, packers, drivers and support personnel who make the lives of our US overseas personnel so much better. Patience, kindness, caring, silence, cheerfulness and attention to detail are only some of the qualities that I observed during this challenging assignment. Without exception, every team member contributed extra effort and deserves special recognition and appreciation for an exceptionally well done professional job. The logistics profession is most often done without much appreciation or knowledge that it takes team work, a lot of pure will power to get through a full day of grunt labor (more then 10 – 12 hours) only to return in a few hours for the same ole tedious grind. Stressful and tiring day in and day out. Movers R Us of Clinton Twp always remained cheerful, helpful and saintly patient. I stand in awe in the busy season when I witness cheerful professional movers give so much to make a client’s journey have the best possible results. I salute all the team members and the entire organization for superb performance.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
