I contacted this company after a previous bad experience with hidden fees from another moving company. They assured me of their upfront and honest approach, putting my worries to rest when I booked their services. I spoke with the dispatcher at 11 AM.
However, things took an unfortunate turn. I was initially told that the rate would be $95 per hour, and the dispatcher would find a mover for me. After an hour or so, she found one and informed me that they wouldn't arrive until 6 PM, which was later than I preferred. She offered to do next day, however I agreed as long as I could complete the move by midnight from my storage unit. I provided a list of only the large items (2 mattresses and bed-frames, Sectional and love seat, 1 chest and 1 drawers) I needed help with since I had already moved smaller items and boxes with the assistance of two male friends.
When the driver arrived, he noticed the smaller items outside and I explained that my friends and I would handle those, but he insisted on loading them onto the truck and not to worry it was a easy load since it was already outside. He started moving the large items I had listed to the dispatcher. After 15 minutes , he paused and demanded a flat rate of $500, including an after-hours fee. I protested, as this was not what was discussed with the dispatcher, who had only mentioned the $95/hr rate. After a lengthy debate, he agreed to the $95/hr rate, because he is a good person and he did not want to do us wrong, but then 10 minutes later, he increased it to $600.
I contacted the dispatcher, who apologized for not informing me about the after-hours fee and the new flat rate. She said the driver wanted to return the items and charge me $75 for his time. I was frustrated because I had already emptied my storage except for the large items such as mattresses, bed frames, a sectional, a love seat, a chest, and drawers. I refused to pay the $75, explaining that it wasn't my responsibility. The dispatcher responded by saying the driver was tired from a long day and they were trying to accommodate me. Feeling helpless, I had to offer more money to proceed. I had to play nice, because at the end of the day I needed them.
The driver refused to do the work and offered we could rent the truck from them for $300, and their movers would do nothing.
We eventually settled on $300, with the dispatcher covering $100 due to her mistake, making it $400 in total. My two friends would be required to help move the entire time.
We decided to proceed with my friends doing most of the work, as the driver helped while the second mover, who was older, contributed little to nothing. My friends were dripping in sweat. Also they dumped most items in my garage, still leaving me with having to do the bulk of the work after the service.
At the end of the move , which lasted only 2 hours and 15 minutes , I received another price change, with the driver now requesting $500 again. This would be the 5th time the price changed. Exhausted and unwilling to argue, I ignored the text from the dispatcher and offered a $50 tip.
This move was incredibly exhausting and far from what I expected. Why would I hire a moving company if I would have to provide for labor and still get charged almost double. I feel like I was strong armed and deceived due to me having to move.
If I was notified at 11AM of this after hour fee and $500 flat rate I would of with with another company online. Lesson Learned.
I would not have mind a paying $500 if I would of not helped with anything, including having my male friends and they worked for 5 hours etc.
What was supposed to be $95/hr turned into $175/hr, and I felt taken advantage of. The price changed about 4-5 times. This should of been given beforehand. Please ensure you have all the pricing details verified and correct with the dispatcher AND the driver before engaging this moving company.
To also add there is a large dent on my stairs due to them moving. No one notified me of this during the move.
