Kyle and Amanda are great people. I had them replace the plumbing under my kitchen sink. Also as part of it they had to replace the bottom of the cabinet, which is a corner cabinet so required some skill to put it back together. They are very trust worthy people, and do a great job for the price they charge, which is a very modest price. I have some other projects that need to be completed, and will definitely hire them again! I love giving business to local self owned companies, and I'm glad I selected them for my needs.

We hired Al to finish a bathroom that was essentially studs, rough plumbing, and unfinished electrical, and he did it all! He installed a window, finished a half wall, completed the plumbing, did a great job on the tile and drywall, installed fixtures, and who knows what else to make things right in there. He even painted the walls at the end! And he did it all for a great price. I recommend Al's work! But the best part about Al is that he is great to be around: Friendly, knowledgable, professional. Thanks, Al!

Peter went far above my expectations with painting my basement and other random walls around the house shortly before we put it up for sale. We didn't want to have the cost of a full painting over - just painting areas that had flaws or were dirty. He did a fantastic job matching and blending in the paint so you couldn't even tell areas that had just been painted from areas that were painted in the past - only that all of the areas appeared nice and clean. He really works hard to make sure the customer is happy.

They were able to get the job done. Communication was not good. Job was supposed to take 1 week and ended up taking 3. They damaged a wall, used tape that removed paint, and waste/scraps were left for me to dispose of. Nice enough people when they were working with me. But, I didnt have a good experience.

Mike is amazing with drywall. He took a terribly messed up old kitchen without a single straight wall in it and turned it into the kitchen that we are proud of today. He really is the best and he was very fair priced. We are very very pleased with his work, it was completed timely and when we decided to cut open a doorway to create a bigger entrance he did a great job of smoothing in where the walls we not even close to even. It was impressive and no one can tell that the walls aren't straight. I don't know how he did it so well but it was worth every penny. Give Mike a call, you won't be disappointed.

We used Mr Miller to repair our back door, replace some wallboard, and paint our living room and dining room. Mr Miller went out of his way to repair or replace things that hadn’t even been discussed prior to his estimate just to ensure things were done correctly. He does not settle for “good enough”. If he has to, he will take things apart and start over. My house is in need of updates and I will definitely be calling on him to do them. Attached is a photo of the wallboard and painting he did in the back entryway. Excellent job.

Evan was extremely professional from his set up and prepwork to the completion of the painting job. He repaired some difficult patches of plaster and was very helpful in choosing the correct paint for the type of job he was doing. I live in an older home and cutting edges is a difficult task as they are not square. Evan's steady hand and eye for detail gave the freshly painted rooms a crisp and clean look. Evan keeps a tidy work space as he progresses through the job and his clean up was meticulous. He always followed through with his time commitment and was cordial while he worked. I would highly recommend this young man not only for his excellent work ethic but for his trustworthiness.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

    • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
    • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
    • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
    • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
