FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I go out of my way to make sure that my pricing is fair for the services I'll be providing. It is a business, after all. But at the same time, I like to talk to my customers, especially the ones requesting really personal videos for their families or a cause and see what we can figure out together. Yes, the bottom line is important, but so is being kind and accommodating to people in need.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always like to reach out to the customer at the very beginning (preferably via email - but sometimes a phone call is more appropriate) and layout exactly plan of action. I like to summarize back to the customer what they are expecting from me and when they are expecting it. I do this to make sure we are both starting off with the same expectations. Then I like to make clear how many rounds of revisions I will do based on our agreed terms. From there, I like to update the customer along the way (especially if it's a long-term project) so they can feel confident that their project is progressing. When finished, I like to send out review links to the customer for their feedback. Basically, for me, I like to stay in close communication with my customers while I'm working on their projects.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been editing for 20-ish years. Most of my career has been on-the-job training and mentoring at post-production companies, advertising agencies and production companies. However, I did get some formal education focused on TV/Video Production and Editing along the way. I graduated from Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts in 1997. I was fortunate enough to have my company in '04 send me to New York City to train on cool new software called Autodesk Smoke. I also went back to Specs Howard's Media Power Program in 2009 to get Apple certified to use Final Cut Pro. Then in 2013, I was working at a company that used Adobe Premiere and I took many online courses to help me speed up my learning of that software. Adobe Creative Suite is now my permanent weapon of choice.
