FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I constantly stay up-to-date on things in my field. I currently write an education blog, www.teaching-and-technology.com, that helps to facilitate that. Additionally, I am a member of several professional organizations. I attend several conferences held by the professional organizations of which I am a part of and some that are held by other organizations. Lastly, in order to keep my teaching certificate, I am required to keep up with continuing education. But let's face it...I'm a teacher. I'm always learning something new every day!
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had just come back from a volunteer trip abroad (South Africa) after obtaining my bachelor's degree in writing. I was unsure what my next step would be and a teacher at the school where my mom was a secretary invited me to come speak about my trip to South Africa. The teacher was amazed at the insights I presented and asked me if I had ever thought about a career in education (teaching specifically). I had not. I mulled it over a little while and then applied for graduate school to become a teacher. While in graduate school, I tutored on the side to help pay some bills. I found I loved it more than teaching. Shortly after obtaining my master's degree, I decided to make it my full time career.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Most commonly, I tutor students with homework help. Additionally, I provide mini-lessons based upon subject matter the tutee has determined to be an issue. I also help with some students who are home schooled.
