I had Sarah Ordo do the makeup for my wedding, not only was she accommodating to my want of a natural look, but she made me look absolutely beautiful! The products she used were great and she even taught me some new tricks. She explained her process and was very knowledgable about the products she used. My makeup lasted through multiple tears and many laughs and lasted until the next morning!! Sarah was fabulous to work with and fit in well with my group of girls. She made my day fantastic and made me feel more beautiful than I have ever felt before. I would highly recommend Sarah Ordo for any of your beauty needs, she truly is a makeup artist and you can see the love and passion she has for it while she works with you.

I had Alex do my makeup for my wedding, as well as my bridal party. Her work is beyond amazing! I was amazed at how beautiful the girls looked and our make up looked the same at the end of the night. It was a pretty hot day & i couldnt believe it all stuck throughout the pictures & reception. She is very professional, helpful and most of all punctual! It can be stressful enough the morning of your wedding but you dont have to worry about her running late or anything going wrong, shes very early, all set up & ready to make u look stunning! I highly recommend her fir any occasion, without any doubts!

Larrissa was such a doll to work with! She personally did my mom's hair and makeup trial because my mom was nervous about the whole thing. Larissa is such a great artist and did a wonderful job on my mom's hair style. Rachel was our makeup artist for the day and I thought the makeup looked flawless. They are also two very sweet ladies to hang out with on your wedding day!

Christine did the hair and makeup for my bridal party (8 bridesmaids, 2 moms, and 1 bride). My biggest concern was making sure we had time to get everyone finished, but to not feel rushed. She created a schedule for me early on and on the day of, the timing was seamless and ahead of schedule! It made the day less stressful for sure! Everyone's hair and makeup was great- we were all very satisfied.

She was very prompt & on time for my appointment. She started with a consultation. She also let me know I had dry skin & educated me on what products to use. The makeup she did for my wedding & bridal party was amazing.

For my wedding Erica came on location to the church to apply my makeup and the makeup for my whole wedding party. She arrived on time to set up and worked well with the hair dresser to keep us running on time. She kept all her things very sanitary and tidy. My makeup was so beautiful and it lasted all day long. She knew exactly what colors to use that would look good on me and still make me stand out as the bride. I could not have been happier with her work. I would defiantly refer her to a friend and use her again for a big date night or for any special event.

Danielle did my makeup for a wedding I was attending this past summer and to say the least it was perfection!!!!! I am very picky and was very nervous (as I always am when someone does my makeup) but when I saw the finished look, I was blown away! She definitely met above and beyond my expectations. I had my makeup done just a year ago for my wedding as well as my bridal shower and other events by other makeup artists.... but nothing compares to her "magic hands". Her work is flawless and you are in good hands (no pun intended) if you choose her. You will without a doubt be 150% satisfied.😊

Ashley came highly recommended to me from a few different friends so I gladly hired her for my wedding day. Her and one other colleague traveled to my venue bright and early on my wedding day and did my makeup as well as makeup for my large bridal party (about 13 of us in total). They were on time, incredibly friendly, efficient, and very fun to work with. Everyone looked absolutely beautiful and as a result of working with professionals felt beautiful because Ashley made sure to ask the right questions of each person before applying anything. I also love the way I look in my photos hanging on my wall from the best day of my life and have Ashley to thank for that. Even with a lot of makeup on I still look like myself which was very important to me. If you are looking for someone who is easy to work with and affordable, I would gladly recommend Ashley to anyone; you won't be disappointed!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

    • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
    • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
    • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
    • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
    • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

    • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
    • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
    • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
    • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
    • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
    • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
    • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
