Christopher M. says, "I had a large and very complicated concrete job. They had a tear out a shelf the entire length of my garage that was extremely heavy and old. The concrete in the garage was 8 in thick and had to be cut out. They expanded my driveway in the back so I can fit two cars back there now. In the front they widened The driveway and apron. The sidewalk going up to the front porch was older brick that was attached to concrete underneath. The brick had to be pried out and replaced with concrete. There was also 8 inch concrete slabs on the side and back of my garage that they removed. A lot of labor. They filled it in with soil and leveled it off. The 2x4s in my garage had rotted and water was leaking in. That was replaced and fixed. They recommend that I get gutters for the garage to help stop water from coming in also. It is very difficult to find honest and hard-working contractors. But I was very lucky to find Veteran One! There were quite a few extra odds and ends that were taken care of. They said "We got you, don't worry" Trust me, don't worry, they got you!"See more

Crystal P. says, "Real Property P&R was a lifesaver! Sam came in and fixed the work another “pro” started. I am beyond happy with the work he did. The project was to renovate my 1/2 bathroom. Sam fixed the drywall where a chair rail was removed. When he was finished with my walls there was zero sign of the chair rail. The walls are super smooth like butter! He painted the ceiling and the walks. The paint job is PERFECT! He installed an exhaust fan/light in the ceiling. He also installed a new faucet, quartz countertop onto my existing cabinet, new vanity light and mirror above my sink. He was punctual, polite, and respectful. I felt very comfortable with him in my home. I have already made plans with him to replace recessed lights in my 18 foot ceiling and replace the foyer chandelier. I am confident he is going to do a great job because he already fixed some electrical issues we were having. My final note: using apps like thumbtack can be hit or miss. Real Property P&R is a HIT! I will save this PRO in my contacts for future work in my home. Reasonably priced as well—forgot to mention that! Thank you so much! You have my future business and I’ll confidently refer you to family and friends as well!"See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does a licensed electrician cost per hour?

An electrician’s average hourly rate is $75, but this price can range from $45-$120, depending on the complexity of the job and the materials needed. The total cost will also vary depending on how long your job takes and if the electrician charges for travel time.

Your location may also be a factor in determining the hourly rate of performing electrical work on your home. To get an accurate estimate of how much electrical work will cost you, contact the best electricians near you to receive free quotes.

What do I need an electrician for?

Electricians can help with a variety of electricity-related jobs around your home. If you have a new home, they can install new wiring throughout. Or if you have an old home, they can help with wiring repair.

If your lights keep flickering, circuit breakers seem to be faulty, or outlets don’t have any power, electricians can assist in sorting out the problem. Your house is full of electrical circuits, wiring and sockets that may need repair or updating. These tasks can be safely completed by electricians in your area.

Contact the best electricians near you today to start receiving free estimates for your project(s).

Do electricians do free estimates?

Yes, they do. Whether you’re looking for new electrical work or wiring repair, the electrician should offer you a free estimate.

Go online to find the best electricians near you. After researching and finding a few pros who seem qualified for your job, go ahead and request a quote to find out how much those electricians will charge you.

How do I hire an electrician?

Go online to find a list of the best electricians in your area. View each individual electrician’s profile and learn more about their services and expertise. Then, read reviews from satisfied customers as well as any issues they may have encountered. This will help you find one with the right experience to work safely in your home.

You should also spend some time researching what qualifications and credentials they have. You might find information about their license on their profile, or you might need to check your local and state government’s website to verify their license.

Once you’ve done a bit of research, ask to receive free estimates from several electricians in your area. Ultimately, hire the most qualified electrician who can complete your project at a reasonable price.

Is it worth it to hire an electrician?

Yes, it's usually worth it to hire an electrician instead of doing the work yourself.

Electrical work can be very dangerous. The pros spend many years working and studying before they become licensed and certified. That knowledge and training can help them work safely and perform the job without harming themselves or your home.

Even a small wiring repair job can be unsafe if not done correctly. Hiring someone that has specialized training on how to do each specific job is the safest choice.

What questions should I ask an electrician?

Here are a few questions you should ask any electrician you’re considering hiring:

  • Are you licensed or certified? A professional electrician should have this information ready and up to date.
  • Do you have any references? Ask for references to learn about their work history from previous customers. You may be able to look online at reviews, but it’s also good to speak to someone to find out their experience with this electrician.
  • What types of services do you offer? Whether you need repairs or installation services, make sure the electrician can perform the work you need.
  • How long will the job take? This will help you set expectations and rearrange your schedule (if needed).
  • Can you send me free estimates? Request a job quote or estimate. This will help with comparing different electricians. The numbers may vary, but be sure to factor in the experience of each person, as well as the scope of electrical work you’re asking about.

Contact the best electricians near you today to start receiving free estimates for your project.

Do electricians offer remote or virtual services?

While electrical work is typically performed in person, you may come across some electrician profiles that state the pro is offering remote services. If you do, contact local electricians to discuss your particular project and what type of remote services they may offer.
