"I would highly recommend having Dan and his traveling photo booth if you want "FUN" included in your next event. He came to our corporate event and it was such an enjoyable experience, everyone there had a great time. Since it was my first time renting a photo booth, I'm glad I called Dan, he was able to make suggestions and ideas I hadn't thought of. He was personable and encouraging so that others would take the plunge into the booth. His props were limitless and allowed even the 'stiffest' of managers to put on a persona. I received many positive comments and we are already talking about having him come back to another of our events this year. Thanks Dan, you were great."

"My name is Nicole Ashley Gee. I had a wonderful experience with The Original Selfie Station for my son's first birthday celebration. Their team arrived early, was professional and the experience was outstanding. The Original Selfie Station provided personalized props for my 1 year old, a specialty background and a few extras that I've never seen before with other photo booths. With the weather warm and having an outdoor party, the photo booth was set up outside with all the other birthday activities. Everyone had a good time. Both the adults and children. I'm happy that everyone that attended my son's party was able to leave with a memory that will last forever. I would recommend this team of professionals for any and all occasions. Job well done!"

" I interviewed 9 different wedding photographers for my wedding. Each of them had been in the photo business a long time. Nobody impressed me more than Michelle and Wally Russell, Russell Photography. I liked that I was hiring the owners to do my photographs and that I got to know them when they did my engagement photos. We went with their “Dream Package”. They were worth every penny we spent. I can’t say enough good things about them. They were very reasonably priced. Other photographers wanted thousands more and would provide less. Everything they said they would do for us, they did do. I can tell you Wally calmed my mother down about the wrong wine being delivered and sent one of his assistants to get the correct Chardonnay. It could have been a disaster. The photography was perfect, better than perfect – I did not believe I could look so good in pictures. Our wedding album is the envy of our friends and my sister-in-law. I have so many beautiful memories and my wedding day was great because I went with Russell Photography."

"We hired MDL photo Booth for our wedding last month at Livonia Marriott, and so glad we did! We decided to get the scrap book and the attendants glued a copy of all the strips as they were printed out and it turned out awesome. It was a pretty teal ombre ornate pattern scrapbook, something I would pick out myself in the store. The attendants were professional and all the guests loved the photo booth set up. The contract was done electronically with e-signatures and paypal and it was very easy and straightforward. It was easy enough that the kids ages as young as 5 figured out how to use it also. I would highly recommend MDL photobooth to anyone considering them. "

"Todd from Photo Booth Divas went above and beyond for my wedding. I found them through thumbtack.com and he gave me a once-in-a-lifetime deal for the 4 hour photobooth rental. He was extremely accommodating with the hours we requested and was very responsive to all of our inquiries. My husband and I had high expectations for all of our wedding vendors and they totally met that and more. We had an open-air photobooth for our wedding, which was a feature that I looked long and hard for because I didn't want the traditional boxed-in one. It was such a huge HIT! Unlike other photobooth attendants, Todd was super helpful and had so many awesome props. Each person in the booth were given a copy of their photo and the quality was very professional-looking. Our wedding guests absolutely loved it and are still talking about it till this day. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose Todd and Photo Booth Divas everytime! We could not have been more grateful for everything they did for us. Thank you!"

"I was unsure of the station at first but it was such an awesome experience for all our people that came back for homecoming to make more memories. Angelina did such a fantastic job of making sure everything is perfect from props to the set up. It worked so much better then a photo booth since it’s open."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a photo booth rental?

A party photo booth is a fun, interactive experience where guests can take a series of photos (usually three or four) that are immediately printed out on a strip as a keepsake. When you rent a party photo booth, the company sets up the booth or photo station at your event; a photographer staffs the booth and coaches guests on how to use it throughout the event. Often the photo booth rental company provides props like silly hats, wigs and glasses. There are different types of party photo booth rentals. An open-air booth has a curtain or backdrop that allows more freedom of movement and enables more people to use it at one time. The traditional enclosed photo booths that you may have seen at the mall or the fair tend to cost more to rent, as they are harder to transport and also cost more for the pros to purchase. The national average cost for party photo booth rentals is $400-$500.

How much is it to rent a photo booth for a party?

Renting a party photo booth for your next event will get your guests engaged and provide a take-home favor for attendees. The cost to rent a party photo booth will vary depending on the type of booth, the day and time of year, the length of the rental, and any add-ons you select. The national average cost for party photo booth rentals is $400-$500. Here are some examples of average party photo booth rental costs:

  • Weekday packages: $300-$550, depending on features included and length of rental. A three-hour weekday package for $500 could include guest book, personalized photo strips and DVD of all the photos.
  • Weekend packages: $450-$700, depending on features included and length of rental.
  • Additional hours: $100-$150 per extra hour.
  • Add-on features:
    • Photo guest album services: $75.
    • Personalized photo strips: $30-$50.
    • Custom photo backdrops or vinyl skin branding of the booth: $150-$300.
    • Live social media connectivity (ability to share photos to social media accounts): $100-$250.

How do you make a wedding photo booth backdrop?

Creative or DIY-savvy couples can make a wedding photo booth backdrop in no time. You can ask your rental company to incorporate a custom backdrop into your rental party photo booth, or do your own custom photo booth with a friend serving as photographer. It’s easiest to make your own backdrop for an open air photo booth, which you can hang on a wall at an indoor reception, or hang from a tree or in a homemade frame at an outdoor reception.

One simple yet glamorous option is a tinsel curtain. Choose silver or gold for classic elegance, or go for a wild color like bright pink. For a more refined look, you can purchase three or four yards of a luxe fabric that fits your wedding color theme. Creative couples may want to get funky and spray-paint or hand-paint designs onto a cotton canvas backdrop. Don’t forget to provide props for your guests; the props are half the fun and encourage guests to get playful for the camera. Paint an oversized picture frame gold (don’t forget to take out the glass!) for your guests to hold up. Provide a chalkboard where they can write cute messages to hold in their photo, and colorful items from your costume box: think hats, wigs, funky sunglasses, and sequined accessories.
