After briefly explaining my issues over the phone, it only took Everett and his partner 5 mins to arrive at my place, and then another 30 mins to fix the clogged drain pipe. I would highly recommend Everett to anyone having plumbing issues.

Mark was responsive and had a fixed price. He got the job done in an hour (diagnose, run out and buy parts and install). All plumbers seem to have a very high basic cost, $150 and upwards. Would help if he adopted new payment technology, or mentioned upfront that he only takes cash or check on the spot - Chase online tools, which I use w/ many contractors, would cut him a check the same way and send to his address. I had to drive him to the ATM and pay him. In addition, he set the water fill level to factory setting, wherein he was trying to help keep water usage low - which is causing a problem occasionally. It doesn't get rid of all the stuff in the toilet. And we have to end up flushing twice anyway. It would help if he made a quick trip to fix this to increase the fill level.

I would rate ADRM as not just good but VERY good. Nick removed an old storm door, painted 2 exterior doors, changed door hardware. Very good results! He was friendly and polite as well. My only concern was that he was fairly laid back and did not ask me for paint colors until he arrived. I did not know what to expect! Now that I know how he operates, and since I am satisfied with the results, I would certainly hire him again.

I needed someone to replace a couple gutters that had blown down during a storm. Matt responded quickly, stayed in communication, called and showed up when he said he would, did the job well and quickly and charged a reasonable price. Perfect transaction.

My experience with Hector and his crew was amazing... Hector was the first contractor to provide an estimate and actually came within 30 minutes of contacting him .. he was on his way home from another job ... right away I viewed him as someone who valued me as a potential customer as well as valued my time... His estimate was within or below the cost of what a couple of the other contractors bid my cement work at... there was a distinct difference in his presentation of the work to be performed and the extra details that he gave to explain how the job would be done ... While performing the work Hector along with his crew were very respectable... prompt.. conscientious... thorough ... along with so many other words to describe his work ethic combined with the quality of his work... for example I can't tell you how many times I watched him with the level to ensure that the pitch of the driveway.. sidewalk and patio was just perfect ... it was very clear that he was taking his time to provide me the best quality work as possible and not just trying to quickly finish and get to his next job.. Hector and his crew also did an amazing clean up after every step of the process .... even the final clean up and the detail work to clean up the yard ... no trace of him being there other than my perfect driveway ... sidewalk and porch... ... Hector is a great guy with impeccable work ethics and I am glad that I hired him and his crew ... he did such a great job I am also contracting him for further work within my family... If you need concert work... Hector is the only contracor to call ...

Joe is great. He came out on a Saturday night to work on a clogged kitchen drain, which a different plumber had worked on and gave up. Joe worked for about an hour and got it open. I was impressed with his professionalism. He came on time, dressed clean, was polite and very knowledgable. In addition, he cleaned up his work area when he was done. Most repairmen leave a mess, but not Joe. I highly recommend Joe and will definitely use him again.

Outstanding. They accurately diagnosed the problem, provided a fair and competitive estimate, started and finished the job one day after giving a free estimate, friendly, polite, clean and professional. As a single, female I am extremely skeptical about hiring contractors without a personal reference but I have no doubts or reservations about hiring them again. I give you my unqualified opinion and guarantee that you will not be disappointed. Good job guys!

Dennis did a good job on both the storm doors he installed. One was not a standard installation. He had to spend a lot of time on the installation, until I was completely satisfied with both doors.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
