My wife and I were blown away with Dan's footage and editing. He was also very easy to work with and responsive to emails throughout the process. Thanks so much for an incredible job!

I would definitely recommend Lighting With Love to anyone looking for a professional, high quality wedding photographer! Months before the "big day" Lynette was on the phone with me answering all of my questions, even those not related to photography. When wedding day came I was so grateful for Lynette's professionalism - she knew what she was doing and created a stress-free environment for me, the wedding party, and my family. Everyone raved about her afterwords. And the best part? Receiving the email that our photos were done a few weeks later! The photographs captured the day beautifully from the traditional bride/groom dip (this felt really awkward and embarrassing but the photo turned out amazing!) to candid shots of family and friends - she even caught the maid of honor and best and best man doing the Dab when they were introduced at the ceremony.

Based on a referral, my fiance', Gary, and I hired Ryan Jakubowski for our wedding photographer. From the initial contact with Ryan, through the delivery of our wedding pictures to our front door, he was knowledgeable, helpful, personable and professional. We found Ryan so easy to work with! On our wedding day, he maintained a balance of providing direction and allowing space. Although our ceremony included a small group, and was relatively brief, he was creative and thorough in capturing all the poses and moments that we wanted, and we will cherish the pictures. We are sure Ryan would provide the same high level of service and professionalism for any size wedding event!

Patrick was our wedding photographer. He was very easy going to talk to. He kept us on tract and on time. He took direction very well and came with lots of great ideas for specific shots. I admired his patience with our nearly 2 year old, his professionalism and his sence of humor during this awkward night. I HIGHLY recommend him ! 100% hands down , not 1 single complaint!

At first I wasn’t sure about hiring 5th Media since they did so many other styles besides weddings. We took the chance and Eugene and his crew proved that their quality of work is amazing across the board! Weddings or commercials the company will make sure your needs are met. My husband and I were definitely happy with our wedding video!

My wife and I hired him to do the photography for our wedding. He was very professional and friendly (which really helps when it comes to comfort levels, especially with the little flower girls). He kept in touch with us. He came to the rehearsal to be prepared for what we had planned so that the wedding day was smooth and went as expected. We gave him a list of a few shots that we really wanted and he got them all as well as a few that were unique. We had our wedding at Crystal Gardens of Southgate, MI. The place is beautiful and he captured that in our pictures. We had the room with the outside patio and gazebo and he took advantage of all of the great scenery the place had to offer. Our wedding and reception was from 4:30 to 11:30 and he was there for majority of the night. He snapped away until the battery ran out, which was after all of the events. He took pictures of our guests, which I didn't expect, but was happy about; The day went by so fast I didn't get a chance to see everybody and some people came from out of state to attend and it has been a while since I've last seen them. I was very impressed with his work. The battery running out was probably the only thing that went wrong, and that was after about 700 pictures were taken, so nothing was missed. I would highly recommend hiring him if you are looking for a someone that knows what they are doing with a camera. A wedding day is not something you want a rookie doing.

We hired Jay to do the video for our daughter's outdoor wedding. He consulted with me prior to the event to clarify what we were looking for and to discuss details of the filming. He arrived early the day of the wedding to set up equipment well before the start of the ceremony. The cameras were not obtrusive at all. The final video turned out beautifully. It truly captured the sentiment of the wedding. We were extremely pleased with the service Jay provided and would highly recommend him to others.

I highly recommend 6of6 photography for your needs. The owner, Eric replied to my email very quickly, set up a shoot and to accommodate my schedule, he was even able to travel to me for a 'mobile' shoot. Bringing with him all of the necessary equipment, you'd never know the shoot took place in my home and not at a studio. In my case it was for promotional photos. (I'd also add that prior to this, we hired 6of6 photography as our wedding photographer. We couldn't be more pleased with the quality, which is evident by the many compliments we receive about our photos).

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
