Jon responded to the ad quickly, when re-installing a door noted a problem. H noticed that a gap in the tile floor would show so he cut a piece of tile and installed this too- glad he made us aware of this and had a solution. Good at many projects.

I highly recommend Jeff for your garage door needs! I’ve been dreaming of a new garage door for a month now, and within 24 hours of contacting Jeff, he came out for a quick inspection, brought in a beautiful new door, and had it installed and ready to go. Not only was he incredibly efficient and knowledgeable, but he was also incredibly pleasant to work with. He took the time to show me all of the features and maintenance recommendations, and even fixed a minor problem in my opener that he came across free of charge. He also took additional time to install a keypad as well as set me up with extra remotes which wasn’t in his original quote (which, for the quality and all the was included, was much more reasonable than that of a large company like Home Depot). Overall, Jeff made this project about as easy and stress-free as I could have imagined and I am so happy I hired him to do the job! I highly recommend him to anyone looking looking any garage door work/replacements. Thank you Jeff!

Barry did an excellent job. Efficient worker. His quoted time on the job was accurate - no surprises. Knew what he was doing. Explained his work. Funny part- he walked in the door and heard the exterior door shut hard. He said - I am fixing that before I leave. An he did in 5 minutes.

Right from the get-go, this was a great company to work with! Quick response to initial request, easily scheduled hours convenient for me, too! The garage door repair job was completed correctly, within the time expected, for the cost estimated.... that's amazing in itself. But the icing on the cake was the very kind, friendly, professional and knowledgeable technician who came to our home. He updated me on parts and costs and showed me what needed to be repaired. If the rest of the company is anything like him, they're going to go far.

I had a double wammy, I lost my last key and had neglected for a long time to repair my garage door. NF gained me access to my home and proceeded to repair my garage door so I could use my remote after 9 months of down time. Their pricing was reasonable and I felt like they turned my disaster day into a great one...Call NF, you wont be disappointed

United garage door pros was exactly the kind of service I was looking for when I search on thumbtack -- a smaller business that pays attention to details and to the customer. The cost of the work was very reasonable and Sam was very willing to spend more time with me to answer all my questions and explain my options. My spring and cables were all shot and the panels on damaged on the door -- we had him replace the spring and cables, but Sam worked with me on whether or not it'd be possible to get by without replacing the whole door (because of the messed up panels). In the end, by his suggestion, I spent about $20 to pick up 2 garage door struts, installed them relatively quickly and now the door opens and closes as smooth as butter. Before working with Sam, I was already somewhat resigned to needing to replace the whole door, so I'm definitely glad to have worked with him and ended up with the results I did for as small a price as I had to pay.

I specialize in general garage-door and entry-door repair and installation. Residential customers are prefered. I also install garage door openers and storm doors. If you have a door that is sticking and/or just not working properly, give me a call. I was a professional door installer for over five years before I started working for Ford Motor Co., and I still work on repairing doors in my spare time. I have been an employee at Ford for more than 16 years, so I am dedicated to work. Quality work is important to me. I travel 50 miles (at the most) to some jobs, but prefer to keep it close (up to 25 miles). I am trying to have my little business expand and become a household name.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.
